“avoid this airport for overnight stays”

Trip Verified | Although the airport may offer good service for daytime passengers, it's an absolute shame for those with an overnight layover. Absolutely nothing is open and there's no meaningful service at all after 9 pm. So, for daytime passengers the airport is somewhat OK but I would definitely avoid this airport for overnight stays. I think a so-called 5-star airport should have at least a modicum of service at all hours. Much more modest airports do have that.

"At least 2 hours waiting"

Not Verified | The most disrespectful situation on arrival. Herded like sheep through endless lanes to reach passport control. My partner and I are in our 70s and 80s. We almost fainted with stress and exhaustion. Inadequate staffing, poor systems, escalators out of order. At least 2 hours waiting to get through after a long day.

“the most stressful layover ever”

Trip Verified | We were transiting thru Munich as our Hamburg to Frankfurt flight was cancelled by United. Such we had an hour to transit thru Munich which ended up being the most stressful layover ever. We are a family of four with two teenagers. We first finally arrive at the security at the international terminal only to be asked a battery of questions; “what kind of car do you drive”, “what was your favorite thing to do in Germany”….then only to have the 15 year old to be given the “SSSS” boarding pass and have to go thru additional screening. This is happening while our flight to Newark is being called “last call” and United staff are annoyed by our inability to get our son thru this process more quickly when their airline was the cause of this situation in the first place. My son finely got thru whatever process was needed and boarded the aircraft without shoes on. I have flown a lot. I have had plenty of cancelled flights, delayed flights. I’m not a newbie. I can tell you the treatment….the annoyance on faces, the battery of unnecessary questions…. I have always loved to fly but no more. As I move towards retirement I will do everything in my power NOT to take a flight. I will take a repositioning cruise, or I will take the train or bus.

"long queues everywhere"

Trip Verified | Poorest managed airport I have ever come across. Arrived on time and literally just made the flight. Checkin process slow, long queues everywhere. Security has to be experienced to be believed.

“Food…almost nothing”

Not Verified | I had several hours to spend at Munich airport before my late evening flight went. I planned to do some work and enjoy some food. I had to be at Terminal 1, Gate D. There are a few seats with a table that would allow you to do work. No outlets/charging options though. Food… almost nothing. No restaurants or bars once you’ve passed security. Just some duty free shopping and a tiny shop that has some simple breads and cookies. No meals, it even something simple fast food like a pizza slice, burger, wrap, etc.

"security took me an hour"

Trip Verified | Nice airport if the security line would not be as crowded at peak hours. Sign stating waiting time 6 to 9 minutes but it took me an hour. Travellers realizing it will not take 6-9 minutes tried to skip the lines. Hectic and chaos in an overheated area. So why not post the real times? Why fast track only for displayed flights? This is hitting the overall airport rating big time on the negative scale.

"Rude and arrogant security personnel"

“no shuttle bus waiting"

Not Verified | Connecting flight MUC-LIS, after arriving from DRS. Operated by LH. Flight from DRS arrives on schedule but there is no ground crew and no shuttle bus waiting at the parking slot; after a while, bus arrives, takes a route around Midfield Terminal (where my connection was due) and drops everyone at T02South, from there we jog to the opposite extreme where another bus (no rail), already departing. Gate closure is avoided by 2-3 minutes.

“chaos and a disgrace”

Not Verified | The management of the Munich airport should be ashamed of its performance and that of its staff. The security processing at Munich airport is a chaos and a disgrace. The line is long and is handled with inefficiency, incompetence and disrespect. The staff are completely unfit to deal with international passengers and may be best re-deployed as prison wardens. We and several other parents of young children were not allowed to bring water for our young children (which, with a lot of kindness I could accept although that rule seems to vary from airport to airport) but instead of having the right equipment (such as a bin, as found in other airports) for people to empty any unauthorized water, we were shouted at and rudely ordered to drink the water ourselves. Naturally after refusing to drink all our kids' water, we were told to leave the line and go empty the water in the airport toilet found several minutes walk away and one floor down. The most tragic part is that it is the second time in 6 months I have witnessed this at Munich airport. This time even the airline check in staff warned us that the security clearing at Munich airport terminal 1 is chaotic and the staff is acting in a disrespectful and arbitrary way with customers. They also told us that they have to deal with regular breakdowns with the luggage management system causing delays. So much incompetence and inefficiency cannot be only due to the staff facing the passengers but to their management. We would avoid Munich airport at all cost and advise that you do too. 0 is the rating they deserve.

"they shut down the whole airport"

Trip Verified | First snow in Munich, which is normal this time of the year, and they shut down the whole airport. Then they have nothing for the stranded passengers - no blankets, no emergency beds. And no taxis to go to an hotel.
