Milan Bergamo Airport customer review

There's quite a large seating area which is just as well given the many delays there were. There aren't enough cafes where you can sit down and the one at the far end (by arrivals) has an extremely confusing ordering system. We didn't locate the restaurant but there is one outside (green building beyond the terminal) which closes at 8.30. Check-in for Ryanair to Luton opened late resulting in huge queues and Italians queue-jumping. This area was horrendously hot. The departure area is tiny and there is minimal shopping which closes before the last flights have gone even if you're lucky enough to be on time. There seems to be no concept of organisation at this airport despite dozens of security staff. The gate area was in chaos with queues getting muddled. Getting to the buses to the planes was a manic free-for-all a survival of the fittest. Don't use this airport if you're taking children or are anything other than 100% fit.

Just a short wait for the bus into town but no problems. Staff in information office helpful as was driver on bus. Returning through it after my visit to Lake Como was almost as easy.

Too crowded because all the low-cost planes leave either early or late hours of the day. Otherwise a small airport well-equipped for a place catering to low-cost carriers ie. a lot better than Beauvais. (But as you can see better low-costs have chosen MXP or LIN like Easyjet and Vueling.)

One of the worst airports. Poor choice of shops / food etc before you proceed through to the gate. Around the gates there is virtually nothing much to do apart from buy overpriced poor quality coffee.

Orio al Serio is a very good option should you have to travel to the east of Milan. The strong increase in traffic in the last years has changed the face of this small airport. The terminal is now full of shops and bars. It can be quite crowded in the early morning and therefore you have to allow more time for check in and security controls. Unfortunately the terminal is much dirtier now and the toilets are filthy. Security controls are efficient and better than in bigger airports. they even run random checks on the passengers waiting for particular destinations like the UK. The passport control in the arrivals hall is very slow. The luggage delivery is quick. I always use the nearest parking lots as the price difference with the far ones is minimal.

Orio al Serio is a nice airport there are no big problems apart parking area which is not very big and the fact that it is next to a motorway and so it is going to be hard to expand it. I've flown with bmibaby from there to Cardiff and found that security was ridiculous they did not look at the screens at all and simply went on chatting between themselves. It's true that the airport is mainly a "low cost airport" but terrorists don't make exceptions if they need to attack they attack. Handling services are good and are all provided by the SACBO Airport Authority it's very hard to lose luggage there. The staff is very helpful and young.

Orio al Serio is located 45 kms east of Milan (about the same distance as Malpensa) and about 15 minutes from the city of Bergamo. It has recently become Ryanair's hub in Southern Europe and the traffic has consequently doubled within a year. It is an adequately sized airport with two restaurants a wine bar a small duty free shop car rental offices banking facilities and a tourist office which will provide you with free tourist literature and maps. Staff are much more helpful and courteous than in Linate or Malpensa and security very effective. It's also far less fog-prone in winter than Linate. Luggage delivery is fast and efficient; normally by the time passengers are whisked to the arrival hall their luggage is already waiting on the conveyor belt. A fast and cheap bus service whisks passengers to Milan in 45 minutes provided there is no traffic and to Bergamo in about 20. The big limitations of this airport are the taxi service that can be herratic on Sundays and Bank holidays and heavy traffic on the A4 which can easily double the time required to travel from/to Milan.

I flew Paris CDG to Milan Orio airport. This airport is as far as Milan Malpensa from the city. Next time I'll fly to Milan Linate. Transport to the city are efficient and the Terminal is nice.
