"This shows a deplorable lack of professionalism"

Trip Verified | I want to point out how inefficient the airport is by describing what happened on arrival from Cairns on a Friday evening. At the luggage collection area, the luggage was sporadically appearing, then the machine stopped for about half an hour. There was no explanation given. If it had not been for a passenger from the Cairns flight, searching for a staff member (very hard to find one of them) and asking what was happening with the luggage not being loaded onto the carousel, we may have been waiting there all night. The staff member had no clue that we had been waiting for our luggage, and said "I better find out what's going on". You think? That would be the least you could do, and it should have been done as soon as the carousel stopped. Soon there was an announcement "Thank you for your patience, We have found your luggage". (Most of the plane's passengers were still waiting). We didn't realise it had been lost! Most of us thought the machine was broken. Apparently the luggage had been sitting on a trailer out in the middle of the tarmac and nobody thought that was odd? Did someone just drop everything and go for a tea-break? Come on! This shows a deplorable lack of professionalism. If Australia is so keen to have more international visitors, you will have to do better than this. The conversation among the passengers, was all about how wonderful just about any other airport in the world, is, compared to this airport. I was disgusted and embarrassed to think that there may have been an international visitor on that flight, and what a first impression this incident would have on them. Lift your game Melbourne Airport, or no-one will want to come here.

"it is dowdy, dreary and too crowded"

Trip Verified | Despite the rules to wear a mask, many were not and airport employees ignored them. Terminal 3 (Virgin) is far too cramped, the check in booths and luggage drop can get ridiculously crowded and why oh why are there only two luggage belts catering to 10 gates worth of passengers? What a difference to the spacious terminal 1. There seems to have been little invested in the airport and now it is dowdy, dreary and too crowded. Even buying a water required a long line up that went out the store. I am so disappointed that my home town airport has gone so far downhill.

"level of cleanliness throughout is disgusting"

Trip Verified | The level of cleanliness throughout but especially in the toilets is disgusting. But the cleanliness is not even just from that day there is a thick layer of dust and grime on all the toilets and surfaces around the toilets. Food and other rubbish on floors everywhere. Surfaces not wiped at all and just filthy. This is completely unacceptable and needs the authorities to look into management and Covid compliance as it’s clearly not up to any sort of standard. What an embarrassment to Australia.

"worst airport in Australia"

Trip Verified | Probably the worst airport in Australia which is really saying something. The walk to and from jet star terminal is laughable. No travelators, call me lazy but having to walk at least 1k to get your bags and get out of this place is just strange. Hobart, Sydney, Brisbane and even Perth airport seem to have been designed by a regular traveler who gets travel doesn’t need to be a marathon. And don’t even on passenger pick up location… another 700m track. Pure honesty if you can fly to Avalon the tiny bit extra for private transfer to the city is well worth it. The money you save on the flight you pay for transfer. The more you know !

"I had to leave it was so incredibly disgusting"

Not Verified | Mother's change and feeding room near Gate 6 has been turned into a unisex toilet, while the men's toilets right next to it remains for men. Women need a clean and safe toilet. This is neither safe nor clean. The toilet seat covered in urine. Urine all over the floor. Mothers are forced to feed their babies in this latrine that would make any third world country proud. I had to leave it was so incredibly disgusting. Please return this toilet to being for women only. We need our privacy and safety, and basic hygiene. Turn the men's toilets into unisex and leave the women's toilets as single sex.

"Airport looks dirty and unkept"

Not Verified | First time to Tullamarine. Airport looks dirty and unkept. Toilets are filthy. Drop off to T4 difficult to find / had to walk quite a distance to get into terminal. No trolleys to assist with moving of luggage. Checking luggage in difficult with hardly any staff to assist. Had a sprained ankle and had to walk to Gate 47. Worst airport in Australia.

"recommend not being tested at the airport"

Not Verified | Return flight from Brisbane Monday morning, 29/03. Checked permit to enter from Brisbane, upgraded to Orange zone, new form to complete, very helpful young man, who suggested I could have COVID test there at airport, ok with that. Where to go next... Terminal 4, ok, a very long way from Qantas Domestic, carrying quite a lot of luggage, but soldier on. Terminal 4 stretches a long way. Not a sign anywhere directing to COVID test centre. Ask several people, not any idea, talk about tiring and very frustrating. Still have two hour bus trip into the country, missed my first choice, another one in an hour, will try to catch that one.. So easy to put large bright attention grabbing signs with directions to Testing Sites. I’d recommend not being tested at the airport, there’s 72 hours to have the test at your convenience, less stress, relaxed end to trip away, for this 70+ years young traveller.

"Melbourne Airport should be ashamed of itself"

Not Verified | The airport is extremely poor. Self serve checkin (with no staff option) is poor. Retail / food and drink facilities after security is poor. For a major city airport ‘poor’ is a flattering rating to give. Melbourne Airport should be ashamed of itself. Can’t wait not to come back!

"signage is terrible"

Not Verified | It's a flash Airport with many things to do or places to eat but signage is terrible. Getting off a domestic flight you had to walk a very long distance to the baggage claim and it had extremely poor signage. After finding the baggage claim there is no signage for the international departure, I had to guess that it was back upstairs somewhere. The immigration process was ok but of course being Australia they love to blast you with radiation on the way out in the body scanners. Departure terminal is also flash but for some dumb reason they have gate numbers separated and sprawled around the place, gate 7 is not next to gates 6, 8 and that is similar for other gates. Security staff are ok but the usual staunch unfriendly types. The place would be far better if they reviewed the signage, I did notice this in a similar vein in Australia with signage but it seems to me something that is important.
