"Absolutely appalled"

(United Kingdom)

Not Verified | Absolutely appalled. We were informed by a lady with ID that we could, free of charge, use the awful lounge and have speedy boarding. We clarified this with the lounge guest desk, to be told it was free as a trial, being a fairly new airport. We then were moved to another lounge to be told it was a free service. Appalling not edible food, choice of 2 drinks. Lounge like a waiting room at GP surgery. How can Egyptian authorities allow this to go on. It is absolute theft and needs looking into. Have complained to Priority Pass and AMEX, as she implied this service was free from the providers.

"this is by far the worst"

(United Kingdom)

Not Verified | I've been in lots and lots of airports in my life, this is by far the worst, incredibly poor. We booked vip longe £27 per person and for that we got a cup of tea and a cold slice of pizza. The staff where charming but not very helpful. Because we where VIP we were speedily passed through a security check, this only took 1 hour? We were stopped at 3 desks to check our small hand bags, after every stop and search I told security we've just been checked he answered in Arabic, I'm bored and my boss is over there. I bit my lip as I understand limited Arabic but I knew they were playing with an old English couple. By the third check I asked in English this is third check. He smiled, this quick you VIP check. Then I answered in Arabic to see his boss, our bags where swiftly zipped through with an apologetic statement and a shy smile. I called over the police security man and told him in Arabic what was going on in his hall. He apologised and rushed us the right way through. This spoilt our holiday immensely, paying £56 to be played with and 2 cups of tea and a cold slice of pizza? Was going back to Marsa Alam in February. Not again will I step inside this circus of an airport. Hargahda airport is head and shoulders above. Never again in Egypt, sorry.

"departure unsatisfactory"

(Germany)

The departure from Marsa Alam was very unsatisfactory. Security procedures were slow, queues were long and personal was very customer-unfriendly. It took 2 hours from entering the airport to getting to the gate (check-in time was just 5 minutes though). Passengers are treated unprofessionally.

Marsa Alam Airport customer review

(United Kingdom)

The airport has not changed since I was last here two years ago. On arrival we collected our visa from the "bank desk" (cost now $25) which was very slow because everything done by the teller had to be checked by the person watching him. Only one of the six passport desks was open (although there were a lot of staff around watching the queue) for the rudimentary non checking stamping of the passport followed by two more staff (independently) checking it had been stamped. Baggage arrived quite quickly. Upon departure all our bags were X-rayed on entry to the terminal (queue 1) then we queued (progressing very slowly) at the only two desks open to check-in (queue 2). Then we queued (3) to go through passport control passing through clouds of cigarette smoke from those watching the queue. Airside facilities (cafe food etc) nothing has changed including the erratic quality of the free WIFI and the attempts of the toilet attendant to get a tip of £1 or €1 for use of the free toilet. Queue 4 (relatively short) was that for the airport bus. As airports go this is better that any other Egyptian airport I have been to it would be superb is those watching the queues or watching others do their job would work as well.

Marsa Alam Airport customer review

Despite the difficult situation in Egypt this airport has got no worse since I was last here two years ago (neither has it got any better). It was clean and it had adequate facilities for the reduced number of passengers now using the airport. Duty Free prices are ridiculously high and therefore not as well used as they could be. There is free wifi but I could not get a reliable signal. Baggage delivery on arrival was astonishingly fast - a quality for other airports to copy. The longest queues were those going through security at the front door of the airport other security queues were quite short.

Arriving passengers are bussed to the terminal where visa stamps are paid for / or collected. These are not visas in the traditional sense but a tourist tax of $15. Immigration simply involves having your passport stamped (there seemed to be no checks) and this was done speedily. Baggage delivery was very quick on a fast moving belt and you are soon outside of the terminal building. Departing passengers have to endure a number of queues to get into the terminal but once through check-in is reasonably quick. Luggage weight checks are very thorough and they seem disappointed if your luggage is within limits and recheck it a few times in the hope it gets heavier. Departure forms are completed after check-in air-side there are the usual range of caes (some offering free WiFi which is really great) and things you never knew you wanted. Buses take you to your plane. This would be a good airport by European standards and is an example to others in Egypt of how it can be done. The one thing that annoyed me was that in the Gents Toilets (supposedly free) you were hassled (even whilst occupied!) for a tip by the attendant – he did not get one.

A very new airport with few flights. Lots of parking and an outdoor cafe. Check-in easy because it is not very busy once past security the gate area is small but with plenty of seats. Duty free is expensive (priced in US$) costa coffee pizza ice creams and a cafe provide more food than at many airports. Toilets are clean. Free WIFI is good and fast. Buses to the planes (no airbridges at all). Very good for an Egyptian airport.
