"This airport is a disaster"

Trip Verified | Terrible airport. Tons of missed flights leaving hundreds of passengers on the ground with little communication or options. Most flights delayed or cancelled. Poor terminal to terminal transportation. Many technical problems with airport and air traffic control. This airport is a disaster. Have been stranded by Philippine Airlines for 2 days so far. No compensation for hotels, meals or transportation. Despite reaching airline customer service by phone, email, DM the airline has provided no assistance. International travelers should try avoiding this airport for making connections. Not a visitor friendly airport at all. My trip has been a disaster and is still ongoing.

"Ridiculous experience"

Not Verified |  I had a 14 hour layover scheduled here and I thought I would be able to at least sit down, grab some food and relax in the main terminal. Or even go to the sleep pods in T1. Turns out you are a prisoner once you enter the airport. They confiscate your passport and boarding pass and take it out of your sight. They don't tell you when you'll get it back. Turns out it was gone for 8 hours. Then you are told to wait in a small room with 30 other people for 10 hours beside the transfer desk. There is no food here at all. I starved for 14 hours and had to sleep on the floor. Then when we finally were allowed to transfer to the main terminal, we did 4 separate bag security checks just to get into the terminal. Ridiculous experience. I feel sorry for the transfer staff because they were way understaffed and it seemed like a beauracratic/logistical issue more than anything. Why do you take everyones passports for 8 hours... Just let us go through immigration at a desk like a normal airport.

"confusion and mayhem rules"

Not Verified | MNL: The worst airports of dozens I've ever experienced - from check-in to immigration & boarding, confusion and mayhem rules. The working of an efficient airport are not a mystery, ie those in nearby Singapore and Bangkok are superb and further afield is Amsterdam, all with good staff, transport and a clean environment. Alternatively, Manila International (MNL) is a confused mess with 4 half-baked, disconnected & incoherent terminals, zero public transport options, poorly trained staff - truly awful. In the name of "security" constant double handling of bits of papers and long queues develop and all appear pointless and haphazard. Quality or edible food? Forget it. Over priced slop is the menu of the day. Each step of the way, the employees appear poorly trained and unable to make a basic decision. All requests are met with a long, blank stare at the computer screen as if a genie will suddenly appear--a sort of frozen confused panic is no way to efficiently operate. The entire set up feels like the creation of a 5-year old and is a national disgrace. Why not hire a professional team (from overseas) and fix this dump up? Perhaps no professional team from overseas would touch such a troublesome project?

"people being quite polite and courteous"

Trip Verified | This review covers both transit and departure / arrival procedures that I experienced on my return trip Port Moresby - Manila - Jakarta via T2 (Philippine airlines). My recent experience in December 2022 does not concur with the mostly negative reviews about this airport. First visit was on transit between POM and CGK, by using the Mabuhay lounge (long layover of 7 hours without going out of immigration). Second visit was for the return trip from CGK to POM via MNL, during which I decided to go out of the airport to kill the 18 hrs lay-over time. It is worth noting that both experience took place after the big bulk PR flights to the Americas and Middle East had been moved to T3, which makes a huge difference since they accounted for half of the T2 previous volume from what I had read. Immigration: always courteous and asking polite questions, no queue coming in and going out, the immigration clearance took less than 3 minutes in my case. Total time spent (without checked luggage) from the aircraft door to taxi: 12 minutes. total time spent from disembarking taxi to Mabuhay lounge (including clearing immigration and security): 10 minutes (without checked luggage). Yes, the airport is tired but being an old airport located within the perimeter of metro Manila, you also only spend 15-20 minutes to go to the nearest city of Pasay / Makati instead of 1 hour or so commuting. As already reviewed by others, nothing to shout about in terms of duty free shopping, mostly just small shops selling foods inside the T2 international. Maybe due to recent complaint on youtube, I see they start to accept credit cards instead of cash only (above minimum spend limit). Security check: completely normal and relatively quick, just one time after the immigration, or one time when you are transiting internationally prior to re-entering the departure hall. Minimum queues, and they ask you to remove the shoes but nothing unusual. For the seating facility, Mabuhay lounge is great but the public zone is less than adequate. My only other less than positive comment involves the tarmac ground crew / bridge operator: on 2 occasions the PR flights actually arrived earlier than scheduled, however this became meaningless due to unreadiness of the ground crew and operators to receive the aircraft to its final parking position. The plane was kept waiting about 200 meters from the gate whilst burning fuel for 10-15 minutes! It happened on both my inbound flights to Manila so perhaps could be identified as room for improvement. Bottom line: not the best airport for sure, but it's not as bad as the internet would lead you to believe either. I always find the people being quite polite and courteous, from the immigration, customs, boarding crew and Mabuhay lounge personnel. The waiting time now is really minimal. If it were indeed quite substandard in the past, in my opinion great effort has been put in place to increase the service quality of the T2 establishment.

"Immigration staff are rude and not friendly"

Trip Verified | Very bad and messy airport. Lounges are small, shopping are poor. The transportation to and from airport are messy. Be careful while taking the taxis outside. Immigration staff are rude and not friendly at all

"so inefficient"

Not Verified | So I use sky tracker and it tells me that a plane has taken off and is on time but it arrives one hour late, NAIA is so inefficient it can’t handle any more than one plane at a time. Same story on the way in. About time it was levelled and a new one was built only I’m guessing that would take so long. Airport execs go visit Singapore, Dubai, Qatar, London or any airport to see how it’s done.

"super hot, crowded and dirty"

Not Verified | Terminal 2 is super hot, crowded and dirty. I thought I can rest or can relax as I am waiting for my flight to be called but I was completely wrong. It is sad that Filipinos are paying high taxes to the government but the government in return provides lousy services to its people like this Manila Airport!

"Lines are usually way too long"

Trip Verified | Lines are usually way too long. I had to go through 3 xray/metal detectors and show my boarding pass 4 times, this is redundant. I don't understand why they have another small check-in security check point right at the boarding gate with a small table set up; I've traveled a lot and this is the only airport like this. Every time I put my boarding ticket away I had to take it back out to show somebody, even to walk down the hallway once I was already through security, additionally, the flight attendant wouldn't allow me to take my seat without showing it too. The rest of the airport is fine but no garbage to be found at gate seating area. Thankfully the bathrooms were clean and have actual toilet paper. I couldn't connect to Wifi because I needed an actual Philippine phone number to send a security code too, this was really disappointing. And good luck getting your luggage at the carousel, people are crowding the belt like animals regardless of the painted line you should stand behind until you see your luggage and going to retrieve it.

"this terminal is musty and old"

Trip Verified | I hate this airport. From arrival to departure this terminal is musty and old even though they recently did some renovations. When you get to your gate you have to line up again to go thru another screening which I find no purpose. The lady that checked my bag had her hands all over my stuff. She was swiping her hand in there like she was digging for gold. Little did I know she swiped my earbuds that I kept in the little pocket. I wouldn't accuse anyone of this but I looked everywhere and I didn't open my bag after that. She was the last person to touch it. Be aware when you are going thru this line. You also have to go thru this procedure even if you just have to use the bathroom which is right next to the seating area.

"worst airport in the world"

Trip Verified | The worst airport in the world. They keep transit passengers with 24hrs transit time inside the airport. Immigration people doesn't allow foreign nationals who does not require a visa to enter Manila and just keep them all in the airport even though they have booked a hotel nearby to have a proper rest. I came from an 11 hours flight and another 9 hrs flight the next day. I arrived at 1630LT today, 19Sep. It's already 1930LT, and there's a long line at the transit area. Airport staff are very unfriendly and unhelpful.
