"Horrible, horrible experience"

(Romania)

Not Verified | At arrival, things were relatively fine. At departure, the airport was so busy, very warm inside, without any AC. The security line lasted about 20 minutes. After you go through security, you enter through the duty free shop, which is small and packed with people looking at products. After passing through the hellish duty free shop, you go inside a very small and crowded space, full with restaurants, which let their lines and tables block the corridors. The electronic passport passage wasn't working at all, we all had to wait in line. The line was also very long and only 3 people were checking our IDs, although we were 200+ people. Horrible, horrible experience. I was thinking of coming back to Lisbon some day soon, but this experience, plus the fact it's a pretty long flight, will deter to do so.

“difficult finding an outlet”

(United States)

Not Verified | Very difficult finding an outlet to charge devices prior to departure. Found outlets against walls with no seating nearby. Any seats by gates had no outlets or charging stations. Wifi service kept disconnecting. Food court and shopping stores plentiful.

“Think twice”

(United Kingdom)

Not Verified | Be warned you can double the flight time from London to Lisbon having just spent 2 hours queuing through the abysmal passport control. Post brexit prioritisation of EU customers clearly evident. Think twice before taking a short break here.

"worst airport I’ve experienced"

(France)

Trip Verified | The worst airport I’ve experienced. And then we see a satisfaction survey sign with a QR code which they obviously don’t even read which makes it even worse. Next time I’ll fly to Porto or Lagos.

"A very unpleasant experience"

(United Kingdom)

Not Verified | Transited through here with TAP to and from Ghana, with a stopover. Immigration is one of the worst I've experienced. On our final transit, we approached one of the immigration booths, and upon handing our passports over in a perfectly cordial manner, were very aggressively asked "where?" by the immigration officer. We assumed he meant our final destination and my wife answered, though apparently not loudly enough, as he proceeded to quite literally shout in an extremely aggressive tone "where?". I answered, and this time he heard. He stamped our passports, and then absolutely slammed them both on the desk in apparent anger, despite us doing and saying nothing in the slightest wrong. A very unpleasant experience. Even when the immigration officers are friendly enough, the lines are long and it is not uncommon to be standing for 1-2 hours. Elsewhere, the signage is poor and the layout is confusing and the rest of the airport staff are often rude.

“a traveler's worst nightmare”

(Brazil)

Trip Verified | As a frequent traveler to Portugal for work, I've unfortunately become all too familiar with the shortcomings of Lisbon Airport. This once-bustling hub has fallen into a state of disrepair, leaving passengers to endure long lines, overcrowded terminals, and a lack of basic amenities. The moment you step into Lisbon Airport, you're immediately struck by the overwhelming sense of congestion. The terminals are packed with passengers, making it difficult to navigate through the narrow corridors. The lack of adequate seating forces travelers to stand awkwardly, often for extended periods. The airport's poor maintenance extends to its facilities as well. The air conditioning often malfunctions, leaving passengers sweltering in the heat. The restrooms are consistently dirty and poorly stocked. And to add insult to injury, there's a pervasive odor of mold throughout the terminal. Currently, there are ongoing renovations in the Schengen flight area, which has only exacerbated the airport's already chaotic atmosphere. Construction debris litters the floor, and the limited access to certain areas can cause confusion and frustration among passengers. If you're flying from outside Europe and landing between 6 AM and 10 AM, be prepared for an interminable wait at immigration and customs. These peak hours often bring lines stretching for hours, causing unnecessary delays and anxiety for travelers. With its overcrowded terminals, lack of amenities, and lengthy immigration processes, Lisbon Airport is a traveler's worst nightmare. Unless you have no other choice, I strongly recommend avoiding this airport altogether. If you must fly through Lisbon, be sure to factor in the additional time required to navigate through the crowded and inefficient facilities.

"Terrible experience"

(United States)

Trip Verified |  Terrible experience transiting from Boston to Sevilla via Lisbon on TAP Portugal. First, the planes are parked far from the terminals- so one has to go down the metal stairs with suitcases to get a bus .. not a short bus ride, and then more stairs to get up to the terminal. Signage is not good - there was an employee in a blue vest, yelling out to us, but we could not understand what he was saying .. he was trying to tell us to keep walking straight. Long lines at Passport Control, I went to the electronic passport machines- only 2 of about 10 machines were working. Once through Passport Control, you have to pass through Security, and then you get into a huge Food Court. The flight was to leave at 7:10 am- but the Departures board will only reveal the gate one hour ahead (like at an Amtrak station). many people were confused. There is also a code on the Board with no explanation - S is for Schengen and N is non-Schengen ... not sure why they have to post that, but it was something else that everyone was asking about. I had to stop an airport employee, who nicely explained it to me on her way to somewhere. I was leaving from Gate 16A- but there was only 1 sign, at the far end of the hall- pointing to Gates 1-17... there was a small sign outside of Gate 16- I don't recall seeing A or B- but after waiting in line for 30 minutes- upon presenting my boarding pass to the agent- I discover that I am in Gate 16B headed to Madrid. There are NO boards at the gate to tell you which flight is leaving from that gate. I had to race to 16A and barely caught my flight to Sevilla. Another couple that hopped on the bus after me had a similar problem- they were told to go to Terminal 2, when in fact our flight was leaving from Terminal 1. I agree with a lot of the other reviews- you have to leave a lot of time at this airport. Fortunately I did catch my flight, but it was a close call.

"Better communication is required"

(Portugal)

Not Verified | After queuing for baggage, checkin etc you arrive at security for baggage check, a sign says 15 to 20 minutes in line. In fact it took us 46 minutes to clear this area resulting in my family missing the flight. The last bus out to the plane had left 7 minutes earlier. Better communication is required and then people could decide to go through fast check. I for one will not be using this airport or Tap in future, preferring to go through Spain

“incompetence of the staff is astounding”

(Australia)

Trip Verified | This is the worst airport I have ever experienced. Got to the airport T1 and got told by staff that the flight was now in Terminal 2 (even though KLM doesnt operate there). Caught the shuttle to T2. Got to T2 and lo and behold we asked again and said we should be in T1. When we arrived back at T1, we lined up only to lose our queue in the line 4x as the staff were frantically telling passengers to form snaking queues across the concourse and around the centre pillar - a simple fix - put up the portable barriers with signage. (Which they did, the barriers after irate passengers (myself included kept asking “which line is it now?”) - And the incompetence of the staff is astounding. All everyone got were shrugged shoulders and eyes glazed like primary school kids. The thing that baffles me is that this problem would be experienced everyday, so why not just put up the barriers each morning? This would fix 80% of the chaos? We eventually dropped off luggage AFTER 2 Hours!! The security check was relatively efficient but after that there was another long bolt thru a long snaking Duty Free shopping area to the gate. Why is this shopping area so huge when u havent got ur basics right? An airport is an important infrastructure where passengers/visitors to your country need efficient, structured and safe service. This chaos /incompetence does not fill any passenger with confidence and will only impede portugals desire to be a tourist hub. We only hope and pray that the aircraft controls and maintenance services are on point so we can fly away from this disaster of an airport.

"the worst airport ever"

(Australia)

Trip Verified | This is the worst airport ever. It has nothing to offer, and has absolutely no sense to its structure. Why would you put shops and restaurants between security and customs. Essentially this does not allow Schengen flying passengers to access facilities in non-Schengen flying gates. There is no cigarette smoking lounge in the terminal anymore, and the only place to smoke is in the ANA lounge or through a €36 pass that can only be bought through the Revolut app? Why keep a smoking lounge for vapers only? Makes absolutely no sense.
