Leeds Bradford Airport customer review

This used to be a nice little airport its main advantage over other northern alternatives was that you could be in and out quickly despite it having a narrower range of destinations and forgiving it the slightly grubby services that were available. However my last few flights to and from LBA have been much less enjoyable and as an example I'll describe my experience last night. Left waiting ages in the aircraft for stairs. Queued an age for the immigration desk queued interminably long for a bizarre taxi system they seem to have (a single company seems to have 'a contract') partly in the rain. I eventually find my way into the portacabin to pay an impressive £21 for what to me is a six mile journey. Even here things did not go smoothly as a fast-track system seemed to be going slower than the slow-track one and combined with balshy customer service nearly started a riot. This seems to have come to a head in more recent times as one is charged to drop-off or pick up so even the alternative taxis drop you off outside the main terminus and leave you to walk as it is seems it is as much a turn-off for them to pay the £2 as it is for a family member to offer to give you a lift. All in all it's making a train journey to Manchester seem highly attractive for future flights.

Personally think it is a fantastic airport visited the airport 3 times this year April June and July and every time the airport development has been improved. Overall a quick and easy service would recommend it to anybody using it much better the Manchester East Midlands Liverpool and Doncaster.

New layout is terrible not clear where cafes are new Saltaire grill is awful. No table service forced to order and prepay at bar horrible machine coffee burnt toast. This has replaced previous decent buffet type cafe downstairs. All passengers forced to walk through duty free sales to get to gates/cafes etc . Flight board says "relax and shop" when not called for flight. Dreadful.

A shame that LBA only think about ripping customers off there are too many shops and very little seating area. We travelled on August 19th to Budapest and thankfully we departed on time I dread to think what it is like to be delayed there. £2 to drop off is a disgrace also a charge for trolleys I believe we arrived back on August 23rd to queue 20 minutes at customs due to many planes landing at once (oh there is a fast track lane £3) to get through customs. We travel 7/8 times a year but LBA will be a last resort.

There is little wrong with this airport small yes but (compared to many larger places) clean and efficient. Travelled in August and upon return was whisked through just as fast as any German Airport or Hub. On arrival the security staff were professional. The amenities aren't lavish but what would one expect. For me it was a far more pleasant experience than travelling through other (allegedly) 'nicer' airports. Oh and the loos were very clean and there isn't far to walk.

Leeds Bradford Airport must be in the running for the gold medal for ripping off its customers. Of course there is no free wifi there is a £2 charge just for driving through the car park to drop people off. If you pay your half hour parking charge for picking someone up it is £5 plus £2 or £2.50 for paying with a credit card. There is no easy way to walk through avoiding all the tat and of course the bottles of water that I saw were £1.80. The transport is a joke. They claim it has got better. I always try to use another airport - it always leaves such a bad taste in the mouth returning to beautiful Yorkshire through such an unpleasant money grabbing gateway. The cleanliness and facilities are irrelevant if you feel that you are being ripped off at every step.

This airport is one of the new breed of rip-off British establishments now charging an admission fee to drop off or pick up passengers. However the drop-off point is about 300m from the terminal front door which given the location of the airport and the habit of the weather to at times be inclement means if it is raining you receive a wonderful wet start to your travel experience. In the airport itself although there are reasonable facilities they are expensive - it can cost almost £10 for a prefabricated snack that would cost £3 in a supermarket. You will also struggle to find a seat if the airport is busy. Car parking as expected is a total rip-off.

Having recently experienced the airport I can understand the negative comments. While the airport is adding additional shops etc they forget that the first experience of passengers is the drop off points. Forget the £2 drop off charge with no time limit for free drop offs you then have the pleasure of getting wet going to the terminal building and a repeat on your return. In reference to the food if you think that the motorway service areas are expensive and poor quality try the airport. On returning on the inbound flight we arrived at 16.45 and it was the worst that I have ever experienced getting to customs the excuse given was that 3 aircraft's had arrived all within 20 minutes of one another. This begs the question what are they doing making a big thing of all the extra flights that we hear about when it is clear that they cannot cope with their existing flights. My advice would be forget this airport until they get their act together and put passengers interests first because this is not the case at the present time. Please Doncaster lets have more flights to give Leeds more competition.

I'm amazed at all the negative comments on here about LBIA. I use it quite often and whilst problems did increase a year or two ago the current £11m investment programme is improving matters considerably. There are more seats and the whole place has a lighter feel to it. There is bound to be some disruption while works of this scale take place but I know I would still prefer to pass through LBIA than MAN or LHR any day of the week. As for the drop off charge so many people are moaning about £2 isn't even classed as small change these days.

This airport is the worst ever. Firstly you have to pay to drop off. Once you go through and have something to eat the restaurant is worse than a third world country. £8 for a full English breakfast! Then after eating there is no where to sit because its full of people drunk in the bar just causing mayhem! Absolutely shameless.
