KLIA Kuala Lumpur Airport

Disappointed with KLIA. Had to wait 3 hours for transit at KLIA and was disappointed by the poor service shopping and restaurant choices available. We had to take the aerotrain to the satellite terminal to look for more choices. Restaurants were over-priced and when we finally settled on a noodle restaurant it took 30 minutes for 2 bowls of curry noodles to be served because they forgot our orders. Not a word of apology too. Airport staff were sitting down chatting playing with phones and occupying seats on the aerotrain while passengers with children had to stand. Toilet seats and floor were wet while the cleaning staff was standing at the entrance eyeing people entering and leaving the toilets. Nobody greeted or acknowledged our presence when we enter or leave a store. It's my first time transiting at this airport and if given a choice I would rather not use it again.

KLIA is a rather odd airport. I prefer say it's like 2 different airports because the comparison between the 2 couldn't be bigger: the satellite terminal the main one where major airlines (i.e non low-cost ones) land is huge modern comfortable and has free automated train going among terminals and has express train directly to the city. The other one called Low Cost Carrier Terminal as the name indicates is where the low-cost airlines (mostly Air Asia) land. Unfortunately it is 'blessed' with the namesake as if it is of low-cost quality: Overcrowded passengers in the bland-looking waiting room long walk between the waiting lounge and the plane on the hot tarmac and no direct train connection whatsoever whether to the city and the satellite terminal (you can take the train to the city but have to use airport bus to the nearest train station). The biggest twist is LCCT is located next to the satellite but to travel between them by bus it takes 20 minutes or more. Restaurants are plentiful (and cheap enough). I'm impressed with the satellite terminal building and it somehow deserves a place for one of the best airport in Asia. The overcrowded LCCT is part of KLIA too and it should be considered to rate the airport as a whole. That being said with the LCCT factor the good rating of KLIA decreases pretty significantly. I even wonder why KLIA still applies the low-cost airline separation policy as Singapore had abandoned such policy (now all is integrated at Changi) and in other big airports like HKG and ICH low cost airlines is never treated as that of KLIA (means that by boarding low cost airlines should not prevent you from enjoying airport luxuries enjoyed by regular airlines' passengers). Let's hope that the new terminal KLIA2 which is said will open soon and replaces LCCT will make up for this.

Malaysia Airlines adjusted my waiting time in KL airport by almost 10 hrs from my original booking (originally 14 hours but due to their adjustment I waited for 23 hours). Unfortunately there were no facilities for such a long waiting time.

Simple efficient terminal for mainline carriers (not AirAsia 'cowshed') but expansion works due completion later this year with AirAsia Terminal 2 opening. Current Terminal 1 has seen some minor improvement too with more food and shopping outlets and the train station downstairs has just been expanded.

Very nice airport: clean good signage and spacious. Lots of shops and eating opportunities. Lots of security around. All were helpful and gracious. At no time did I feel like a criminal as I often do in the hands of the TSA back in the US. The buy in lounge is reasonably priced and the complementary massage was a real treat. One of the world's better airports.

Easy to use transit well sign posted food options were good however if you like a few beers before you fly take plenty of money with you - over priced! Pay for drinks as you go as I sat there I saw 2 groups get charged for drinks they said they didn't have.

Brilliant airport. So clean quiet and efficient. Staff friendly and helpful. Makes travelling a joy not a chore.

I always visited this airport very frequently as I used to fly with Malaysia Airlines before they discontinued their services to Pakistan and I always seemed to have encountered changes within this airport. First off some of my visits have been absolutely terrific with no problems at all. However some visits have been disastrous such as not allowing my son's formula milk to be carried with me after customs claiming to have CFC's. My last visit to this airport was also disastrous as we were the last passengers to board MAS from Pakistan and we had an 8 hour stopover at KLIA. Didn't offer us any accommodation whatsoever and staff did not care. These occurrences has tarnished my views of this airport.

KLIA is an excellent Airport however arriving at 5 in the morning I found few shops open and the terminal wearing a deserted look. The arrival area is like a shopping mall. You deplane and walk into a mall. The monorail to the immigration building is a nice setup immigration area clean but drab. Staff at customs and immigration are courteous but dour. Departure at 5pm was the exact opposite. Lively and well equipped the airport wore a modern look. The shops in the departure area are well stocked and everything looks spotlessly clean. The airport is never crowded and has a clean crisp and spacious feel. Prices are reasonable. The food court is large with a selection of Malay Asian Chinese Indian and the regular fast food outlets. Unlike some airports the staff are only too happy to help. This airport works better than some modern looking ports in the region. I highly recommend KLIA as an excellent transit point.
