KLIA2: Not enough signage. I followed the crowd thankfully they knew where they were going. Long walks required. Unremarkable shopping.

Flew a domestic AirAsia flight from the spanking new KLIA2 in the evening. Took the ERL from KL Sentral and arrived at the airport just after half an hour avoiding the peak hour traffic. Once you step out of the train station you enter the gateway at KLIA2 complex. It's really a public shopping mall within the airport and there's many to do and eat. Walk two floors up and you enter the Main Terminal Building where the check-in kiosks and desks are located. Looks brilliant at first sight but then at peak hours you'd get a feel that there's just too much retail and food and beverages cramped into this area. Security was a breeze and was cleared within 5 minutes. Domestic airside however is a different story. Limited choices of food and beverages and even the available outlets are just far too expensive for the ordinary traveller (bare in mind this is a low cost carrier terminal where majority of passengers would be budget customers). Do have something to eat before going airside if you're early for your flight. Our gate was at the west end of the terminal where it is really quiet and a good place to take a quick nap. There's a smoking lounge available and it didn't feel uncomfortable at all. Although considered one of the nearest gates it took me a good 15 mins walking to get there. Spare some time on this. I advise the elderly or the disabled to get assistance on getting to your gate. Overall experience at the airport was good. Much better than the previous LCCT. This terminal is well integrated and way more comfortable. The terminal can match the quality of the KLIA1. However after just over a month of operations there are already signs of deterioration missing screws from FIDS stands damaged signs paint of walls fading etc. are just a few examples. It would be a shame if this RM4 billion facility can't live up to its price tag due to poor maintenance.

A lots of negative comments actually referred to LCCT (belongs to Air Asia) but KLIA is one of the best airports in the world easy access friendly ground staff very helpful. Variety of restaurants and cafes though the price is quite expensive for locals but for international visitors is quite ok. Queue at the immigrations is quite fast and it goes with the baggage claim too. Overall it was a nice airport.

I transited KLIA2 twice in the last 2 weeks so I can only comment on airside facilities. While KLIA is all stainless steel and glass KLIA2 is more white paint and glass. It's set up for much better comfort than the old LCCT terminal but unfortunately it's just not ready yet - there are very few useful facilities for transit passengers at the moment food options in the transit area are limited to MacDonalds and Gloria Jeans no bar no massage almost no ATMs limited duty free there are a couple of lounges but one shuts long before the last flight and the other is very remote and has no showers. Long walks to and from the gates with few travelators. Wrongly the toilets are already smelly and I encountered a broken-in-half toilet seat. Sure it's early days but I do wonder if it will improve from here or continue to slide.

Arrived on time from Denpasar and caught the aerotrain to immigration and the baggage hall.No ques either arriving or departing for immigration. Easy check in at the Malaysian desks. Baggage arrived around 10 mins and easy sign posting for the KL express train into the City. Departing is another story. Most airports now seem to prefer high end duty free shops to passenger comfort. I caught the aero train to the other terminal as this has more choice of places to eat etc. The toilets were not clean at all and you could tell people had been smoking in them. Saw many passengers looking for customer assistance and if there was any they hid well.

A friend of mine landed from a flight from Abu Dhabi at 2200hrs local time. Aerotrain connecting the satellite terminal to the main terminal was down and there were no signages as to where to connect ourselves to the main terminal to clear immigration and baggage claims. Instead it was by word of mouth from the other passengers that the terminal buses were to ferry us across. To our dismay they only had 2 serviceable buses. And there was a mock of passengers unable to alight them as they were packed full. Even the bus doors were unable to close. As impatience grew in lieu of passengers rushing for their connecting flight and more poured in my friend was stuck there for more than 45 mins. There were no airport authorities at sight. Passengers at the bus stop was already pouring into the tarmac which dwells the question of airport security? Clearly this shows no part in monitoring security for such an incident and the airport authorities were clearly incapable of manning such a scenario. There were times the aerotrain was down and thus this may not be the first time they have to endure such a challenge. When the train was serviceable after 50 mins the long queue took up. But nobody inform some poor lads at the bus stop area that the terminal bus service was terminated! And the baggage collection had no signage on where / which carousel to collect from.

KLIA2. Obviously rushed into service after the schedule delays and not properly cleaned post construction. A very inefficient use of space and as usual the focus is on retail not passenger comfort and amenity. There were some long narrow ramps after the aerobridge which should be at least a meter wider. I had to change levels about 5 times and walk nearly a kilometre from the gate to immigration; very poor design. Someone sack the architect of this place. Signage needs improving with lots of A4 paper signs pasted to cover the shortcomings but since the place is only a week old I'll give them the benefit of doubt and assume they will fix this. Baggage reclaim was slow but again this airport is still in the teething stage so it should improve. The huge plus over the old terrible LCCT is that you can catch the KLIA express into Sentral (via KLIA) and not have to deal with the lousy taxi service or schlep in a poor old bus to KLIA to catch the train. This is a huge plus for regular users. I was arriving and have yet to use this place to depart but the F&B outlets seemed plentiful and it's almost like a shopping centre if you feel the need to buy some new shoes just before your flight. All in all a big improvement over the abysmal LCCT but the layout and design is disappointing.

I am a frequent user of KLIA. The airport is OK but could be a whole lot better. The usual temptation for airports to prioritise income from rents over the smooth movement of passengers has prevailed. Many of the corridors in the satellite terminal have become narrow passageways because shops have been plonked in the middle of them. I'm sure the designers didn't intend it this way and it really grates on me that space and convenience for the users is sacrificed at the altar of the almighty ringgit. Add to this the propensity for people to shuffle three abreast in these narrow spaces and you have a number of unnecessary choke points. F&B outlets are plentiful but expensive and the airline lounges are generally pretty average. There are few places to sit in the terminal unless you're spending money (by design?) and the sanitation in the restrooms is not great although miles ahead of the disgraceful LCCT (thankfully now superseded by KLIA2) Taxi services like elsewhere in Malaysia are terrible and the access roads in the arrivals and departure areas are chaos with double parking in no standing zones the norm. Use the KLIA express train and forget the taxis.
