Kansai International Airport

Not Verified | Poorly managed security check & immigration. Snaking queue to clear immigration was almost 200m long. Over 1h to clear. The poor shops within the restricted zone must be really suffering. Most people would not have time to do last minute shopping. And we had to run towards the boarding gate. Be at the airport at least 3.5h-4h before flight.

✅ Trip Verified | Very poorly managed immigration clearance system. it took almost two hours to clear the immigration clearance process. The waiting hall was very hot, and not comfortable at all. It's a real shame to have such a nightmare immigration clearance system.

Not Verified | I was at this Airport on my way back home to Bali, I enjoyed the easy access to get me here although was bit confused with the sign that got me to domestic terminal instead of International. Love the modern design and the space. It was a late night flight, the airport was about to shut so there was nothing that you can really see/do here, plus it was during the pandemic. So no queue or just simply empty. I need to praise how clean the public bathrooms were here as are wherever you go in Japan.

✅ Trip Verified | Not an exciting airport but efficient and quick to use for arrival and departure. Excellent choice of eating options around the check-in area, and highly recommend dining before you go to the departure gates in Terminal 1. Not much to do in the gate space but do enjoy this airport.

✅ Trip Verified | Kansai Airport Terminal 2 is dedicated to low-cost carriers. It is new, yet dysfunctional. The security control area for international departures is tiny and works well only with a very low rate of incoming people. Inside the terminal, beyond security/passport control, most of the space is occupied by duty-free shops. There are only two cafes/restaurants with very limited choices and high prices. I guess this a general problem in Japan, but as an airport, specifically geared toward international tourists - management should ensure that food options are varied enough to accommodate a range of needs. For example, dishes without meat. There is one convenience store, selling only drinks or souvenir biscuits. As well, the ventilation system of the restaurant is as poor as you can get. The whole surrounding area smells of fried food - not a pleasant experience while waiting for your flight.

✅ Trip Verified | Very expensive to get to and rather confusing as many different railroads and buses service all with complicated pricing systems. Check in and security were ok but immigration a complete farce, 3 different desks just to process inbound and crazy biometrics on outbound- with no human assistance and no English language ability. Food options very limited and extremely expensive. Few toilets so used the one disabled facility.

✅ Trip Verified | I was expecting so much more from the gateway to a major world city and the Kansai region. KIX is clean, functional, nothing more. It’s just very, very average. It’s clearly targeted at Asian shoppers that did not spend enough in town, with a strong emphasis on shopping options (that remain average, though). The limited options for eating inside the international zone are borderline ridiculous. You won’t starve, but don’t expect anything to please your senses. The signage is “ok”, but there are only very few staff (including at the information booth, which is nothing but a phone) that can help you find anything specific. Don’t expect human interaction. KIX is a “go through” airport, nothing more, unfortunately.

✅ Trip Verified | I have experienced all major airports as per wikipedia in Japan, and can easily say that Kansai Airport is my favourite. It's size is just right, and everything just works as smoothly as butter. As soon as the plane docks at the jetbridge, a timer starts in my mind, knowing that within 25 minutes I will be on a train to Osaka. It happens every time. The arrivals process is very quick, you get fingerprinted and photographed before getting to the actual immigration counter, and lots of counters are open for foreigners and questions aren't commonly asked from my experience, leading to a quicker immigration clearance. My baggage has always already been waiting for me at the baggage claim, and customs is a quick process even if you're subject to a search. As for departures, check in can be a bit of a hassle as I've had it, but that's on Thai Airways as they don't outsource staff here, rather having their own staff. Duty free is always full of rude tourists and long snaking lines throughout the shop. If completely necessary I would buy some Japanese chocolates but if not I would skip this bit. There are also a lack of dining options. Other than that, it is an extremely efficient airport and despite being 25 years old everything runs so smoothly and the airport just works.

Not Verified | One of the worst airports I've ever seen. It's not prepared for so many flights at all! Departure zone is overcrowded, announcements are barely heard. We had a delay (not because of the airline) and no one can say for how long. When we've got on board we had to wait 2 hrs because of the traffic. I mean, how is that possible that you can't send flights on time having a schedule? I don't know why this airport has a high rating. I believe it should be renovated and it defenitely needs to reduce a number of flights!

Not Verified | 1) Unclear instructions and directions around the airport. 2) Limited eateries airside. 3) Toilets are disgustingly smelly. Other than that immigration queue was fast.
