CPT-JNB aircraft has been on block it took 10 minutes to adapt the staircase. Very slow! Then by bus to domestic terminal. Then to walk down to Terminal A or B. That all takes too long because the airlines book normally connections to international departures too short not knowing that the ways are too long in JNB. Further on the queue at passport control is again too long at 6-8 p.m. the hall is packed full by passengers that they must wait outside. The result - they miss their flights. Or Tambo is the worst airport concerning handling. The mentality of the staff needs urgent improvement. Why is CPT so much better?

Refurbished recently so its very nice. But how can a luggage storage business at a huge international airport not accept credit cards?

Agree that signage is confusing. Arrived on BA from Heathrow around 9:00 am business class with three hours before next flight. BA lounge closed but sign directed us to a multi-airline lounge. We were refused entry however. Returning two weeks later the transfer experience was beyond belief; a potentially two hour wait. We convinced the Air Namibia agent next to the single BA agent to issue our boarding pass and therefore reduced our wait to forty-five minutes. Both agents seemed indifferent to the wait.

Agree with comments below- signage is bad especially when arriving by the Gautrain (which was indeed amazing - 14mins Sandton-airport). The escalator brings you down into the middle of the check-in area (terminal A left + terminal B right). A huge sign should rather indicate International Check In A / Domestic Check in B!! Very easy to get lost. Otherwise very nice clean modern airport with lots of shops and eating areas and friendly security staff. BA drop and go a bargain and saved time.

Nice big clean airport with a distinct lack of clear signage. Ended up walking in circles to get from international arrivals to domestic departures for a flight to Cape Town. On departure the lack of signage was worse. You really have to have your wits about you if you are dropping off a rental car as the signage to the rental car drop off area is not consistent or even logical. Several last minute lane changes required to get into the correct lanes. I am sure I hacked off more than one driver behind me. Once inside the terminal the lack of clear signage continued. Not helped by the flight information displays not being updated either frequently enough or clearly. Staff were in attendance but were not really helpful as they could not answer basic questions like where are airlines desks? I got sent on two wild goose chases by staff who did not know even the basics. More training perhaps? Great building let down by very poor signage and poorly trained staff.

We were transit passengers through Johannesburg earlier this week and the experience was beyond belief. The transit check in area was a shambles people everywhere and the staff just ambling along with no real interest in the huge queues. We were travelling business class and there was no priority queue. We almost missed the opportunity to shower in the lounge before boarding and we had just over two hours which we believed would be ample time. The airport is nice but the staff need direction training in customer service and motivation to carry out their duties.

Spacious airport and quick to process through every stage. Friendly people but the lack of signs is beyond belief. Dropping off the rental car was hilarious. I swerved from lane to lane did lots of driving on blind faith and eventually got there (only had to go round once). There is a business class check-in for SAA - it is well hidden in the centre of all the SAA check-ins. After check-in with SAA walk to the end (away from the glass windows) and turn left then keep on walking and make your way down one floor to the next level and that is where security is. I stayed at the City Lodge Hotel right at the airport which was great and pleasantly uncrowded.

I am glad to see the majority of construction have been completed. The international arrivals all arrive at the same place and the immigration that's been combined between the two old terminals seems to cope well with all the passengers. I was processed within 5 minutes. About 10 carousels await for the luggage and the luggage started arriving at the time I arrived at the carousel. The single exit point is clearly marked and I had no problem finding the escalators to the domestic departures level. The new Gautrain station is clearly complete but only starts operating in July according to a person that walked with me out of arrivals.

I arrived from Singapore at 7am in the morning and had passed immigration without problems baggage handling was fast so overall satisfied. Please beware when you are walking alone towards the Car rental offices where not much passengers roam there are 3 Police officers just outside the door after the first escalator (down) and going to the Car rental offices (up again). These Police called me and started asking me questions about my visa and travel documents on which I think is inappropriate since the immigration officials had already checked. They started asking questions on which I think it's not their job and jurisdictions don't they supposed to guard and protect the arriving passengers from potential scammers? They held me for 5 or more minutes and they refused when I asked them that they should take me to the immigration if they want to see proof of my travel documents and stuffs. It seems to me that these officers are just taking a chance to get a bribe for a quick fix and to avoid delay out of the passenger. The airport is the doorstep of the country and through this incident my first impression on SA started there. It was a very bad experience.

Flew in from DAR and cleared customs in under 10 minutes which is the fastest I have known for this airport. This was a nice surprise and even the baggage didn't take that long. They have spend some serious money here yet again this excellent airport is let down by the simplest thing - signage. I needed to go to the domestic side to pick up a car. Well for a start you get terminal A and B (would it really kill someone to put 'Int' & 'Dom' after A & B? Anyhow I followed the car rental signs and took the lift though car rentals were listed on 2 seperate floors with no clue why. I went to the nearest one which seemed to be Europcar (sadly no the company I was using) so back in the lift. When I returned the car again the signs came thick and fast along with the turns in the road all very confusing but I managed to keen in the correct lane until the last when all of a sudden the car rental lane was only valid for some companies leaving me a split second to try and find the companies logo! I decided to stop and take my time and to hell with those behind me and a good job too as I was now no longer in the right line. Please can someone re-think the signage around the airport get someone from outside ACSA and for god sake get it right before the World cup starts
