"a waste of time"

Not Verified | 5 checks all of the same sort. Staff rude and do not explain themselves. Just a waste of time as there are bus boys splitting money with security to so called fast track and out of the 5 checks there is no concern for liquids at all.

"very unprofessional impression"

Not Verified | Very unprofessional and rude staff. Staff shouting at you and acting very impatient at the security check. Staff speaking poor English only adding to the effect; shouting 1 or 2 word commands at you. In the best case some staff don't look at you and hardly talk at you at all; only communicating in hand gestures. Poor organisation; as the first security check at the entrance does not seem to know how an electronic ticket works; demands to see a ticket before we can enter the airport. Eventually showing him a printout of our travel itinerary from our travel agency satisfied them even though they don't seem to understand that that's not a ticket at all, so this check was completely useless. Also they do several consecutive baggage security checks that seem totally redundant. After the last check apparently they want to put a stamp on your boarding pass. After we went throught that point; when we looked back half the guy the staff wasn't even looking and people walked by this point totally freely. All giving a very unproffesional impression.

"The whole place is a joke"

Trip Verified | This airport is ridiculous. On arrival you run the gauntlet of scammers trying tho sell you an overpriced visa before you are herded into a queuing area like cattle into a pen, to wait 45 mins to get stamped into the country with only 3 of the several desks open. Departure is like nothing you will have experienced before. All the previous reviews are correct, multiple bag scans , multiple checks of your passport - sometimes by people stationed feet from each other, multiple pat downs & frisks. security is vital, however It is over the top here. All employees seem to take great delight in being as obnoxious as they can be to everyone, barking orders at everyone & the general chaos & unfriendliness is why I will be loathed to ever come here again. Horrible people on a power trip - the management of this facility should be ashamed. The best is reserved for UK flights where you are subjected to another rummage through your bags, pat down & then drugs wipe of your clothes that is not carried out on other nationalities. It took us 3 hours from arrival at airport to reaching the departure gate. The whole process is totally demeaning & leaves a poor impression of Hurghada & Egypt in general. Their final scam is to charge you in $USD for any purchases, even although I implicitly told them to charge me in EGP on my card. They then load the exchange rate in their favour to fleece you out of more money. When you complain they just ignore you. Don't even bother with the Wifi - it doesn't work. 'Employees' demanding a tip to use the dirty toilets were the last straw. The whole place is a joke, the multiple checks, the employee behaviour, everything.

"we were treated so badly"

Not Verified | Upon arriving at Hurghada airport, my friend with assistance was taken by wheelchair through the visa process. My husband and I walked to passports and visa which was a long walk. We were then called by man with EasyJet board and our names and told the visa was 30 dollars. I argued and was pointed to the bank there I paid the correct amount of 25 dollars, good start not. Collected luggage ok and were waved through luggage scanner as my friend walks with a stick. Then had to search for our taxi. Our return trip was abismal. We looked for assistance and was advised by fast track to join the long queue which snaked round about 5 times. I asked again for wheelchair access and we were able to go to nearly the front of that queue. We then joined another queue for scanning of luggage, hand luggage and ourselves. My husband always deals with luggage but women had to go to woman security. We had to take off shoes, fit bits etc. we then moved to EasyJet desk to check in and we were able to get a wheelchair after being in terminal for about an hour. The security staff were obnoxious and rude. Once we had the wheelchair, we had to write another card with our details and go to passport control, where we were able to go to the front. Then we went through another security with hand luggage and again had to remove shoes etc. My hand luggage was removed from the bag and searched again. We then we waved through again once we could get passed about 30 Chinese people who didn’t want to let us through. My friend was then taken straight to departure gate the furthest one, and left we only had toilets and one shop. Presenting boarding passes to get in uk only part. We had over an hour without being able to do anything or go to duty free shop. Free for all when boarding plane, no special assistance or families with children to board first. I’m seriously thinking of never going back to Hurghada as we were treated so badly.

"The most awful experience"

Not Verified | The most awful experience I've ever had at any airport! Travelling with two small children. Total lack of manners and humanity by the security lady who, after hours of queuing and late at night was trying to take our distraught 2 year old and give her to strangers so she could scan me (she could have done this just as well while I was holding her as it turned out). Endless checks. I like to be safe but the manner was abysmal. Treated like suspects rather than tourists. Really has put me off returning.

"endless checking of documents by officials"

Not Verified | I agree with all of the comments made by others regarding the endless checking of documents by officials standing just a few feet apart in some cases. Also the rudeness and general impatience of staff. The main thing I would like to add is the airport beggar economy in and around the departure hall. It starts with guys with trolleys offering to wheel your luggage about 50 yards from set down to the departure hall doors and then expecting a tip! Hotly followed by beggars asking for money "fast track" you to the front of only the very first of several queues for luggage scanning and document checks. Then finishes with beggars standing with brooms at the filthy, stinking toilets expecting a tip for I'm not quite sure! It certainly isn't for cleaning the toilets. Honest to God, is this really the lasting impression that Hurghada wants to leave it's "valued" visitors with??

"Absolute carnage"

Trip Verified | Absolute carnage. So many checks for documents, but if you pay you can skip all the queues, and get to the front quicker. The 1st screening for cases and body check is an utter unorganised disaster, trays falling off the small conveyer once through, staff just seem to walk about shouting. If you have checked in online prior thinking you can skip check in, think again, they make you go to the check in to get an immigration card, pass immigration then not 5 metres away anther person wanting to see your passport, I don't get it, please explain why the need for another? Then onto the final case and body pat down, this is the last lot of mayhem, some of the things taken off you go straight into a bin, some get put to one side I'm guessing these find a way out of the airport and (cough) disposed of? I know airports you are a captive audience, but when you know you can buy a packet of crisps for 5egp in local shops, it's a rip off being charged 85egp. Each time I've been unable to log onto the free 15 minutes WiFi in the last 4 visits. Who ever is running this shambles, they need to go visit other airports and see how they are run, its enough to put you off going to Hurghada.

"airport staff was unhelpful and quite surly"

Not Verified | I had no issues when we landed at Hurghada Airport as I had already done the entry visa online. For those who hadn't, it was more difficult as Immigration wanted £25 cash only. On my return to the airport for the flight back to UK, it was a different matter. The airport staff was unhelpful and quite surly. Firstly, on the board, it said our check-in gates were open but we were stopped by an official who told is it wouldn't open for another 45 minutes. When he did let us proceed, he checked all passports and tickets. We then lined up at the first x-ray point where there were 2 machines open. Another grumpy official told us to separate - males on one side, females on other. Suitcase, hand luggage, electronics were all scanned and everyone was bodily patted down - that was all good, appreciated the security need. Bag drop off went smoothly although I would suggest that you be careful about being within the weight allowance as their scales seem to be calibrated so the bags are heavier than they are (my suitcase gained a kilo despite having less in it than on arrival). Reaching the Departures Security was fun, we had to complete another immigration card, luckily I managed to borrow a pen from a fellow traveller as there were none to be borrowed from the airport officials. Again passport and tickets checked. Shoes, watches had to be removed for going through x-ray along with the usual stuff and again the body pat down then another passport and ticket check. In view of last official, 6 feet later another request to view passport, ticket and to write on a sheet of paper your details and flight number (I had no pen so I did not do this plus I didn't feel they needed it by this point). Another 20 feet on, another request to see travel documents then finally in departures lounge and everything, apart from the odd café and trinket stall, is shut. Its 8.30pm and there is a plane load of tourists who will spend money in the Duty Free shop but they can't because it is closed. Our flight is at gate 39, at gate 37 we are stopped again from proceeding for about 30 minutes. Eventually they let us proceed with yet another document check and about half the passengers to be patted down again and hand luggage gone through. Finally one last passport and ticket check and we can board the plane. The plane is then delayed for 30 minutes and we are told it because the baggage handlers are securing cargo apparently. The real reason for the delay became obvious when I got home and realise the lock had been forced off and the contents of my case rummaged through. Luckily I had my valuable in my rucksack with me, I just hope none of my fellow passengers lost anything of value. I know this review may sound like a moan fest but this was not my first Egyptian holiday and mostly, people I've met are nice and helpful but staff at Hurghada Airport are some of the rudest and unhelpful people I've ever met and I know that some of the other passengers are planning to write reviews to this effect. To demand to check passport and tickets that many times by officials standing 6 feet apart is overkill when we are the only passengers in a locked airport building. Totally appreciate security checks (even 7 of them!) but common courtesy and manners cost nothing. I hope to go back to Egypt but it will never be to Hurghada. To any Hurghada Airport Management reading this review: Invest in some customer services training for your staff!

"beware of the visa scam"

Trip Verified | Arrival was fine but beware of the visa scam - get an Evisa before travelling or go to the official visa desk. Departing was not the best - there are endless checks of luggage and passport, but despite this, it went fairly smoothly - maybe because it wasnt that busy. By all toilets, beggars are ready to ask for your money - incredible that an airport allows this. There is wifi but only 15 minutes for free (and it wasnt very good) Shops are ridiculous - first duty free i went into would not take credit cards. Found another one which did and got some cigarettes which was USD 14 for 200 so not too bad - roughly same price as in supermarkets in town. Bar prices the worst i have ever seen - a beer in bar downtown EGP 30-45 - in hotel EGP 70, at the airport EGP 170 !!! Other than that, airport is actually fairly nice and clean, Lots of smoking rooms available as well. Toilets are clean.

"Worst experience ever"

Trip Verified | Worst experience ever! International departures has couple of souvenir stores and duty free ones but with poor offer. There is also a restaurant and cafeteria to spend your time while waiting to board. The overall public area and toilets are decent clean. We didn’t see any baggage wrapping service around. The worst part is the check-in process and interaction with airport / government representatives. For the 1st instance we were refused boarding for our flight (together with some other 8 people), so we spent couple of hours in the night trying to identify the reason and get proper evidence for their decision. No representative for the company was there, we were not presented our rights or any other details. The information desk was useless, saying that this happens often and there is nothing for them to do. Tourism police was also useless, they weren’t even speaking in English to us. At some point they were saying that we cannot board as we landed on a different airport. We asked several times for a written confirmation on boarding denial or at least to tell us their name, nothing. After boarding time has passed they asked us to leave the airport. This is really an awful experience and I don’t want to think of the persons who might travel for the first time, or are low on money, don’t have a good level of English, etc. Just horrible! Second time we managed to board, from 3 check-in desks only 1 was open and worked really slow. There were no pens to fill in the exit the country form, so make sure you have one at hand. At passport control again there were only 2 officials although several international flights were scheduled at the time. Although we had our passport check and exist Visa, keep your passport at hand as you will be asked to show it one more time. I would not recommend this airport to anyone and don’t think I will ever come back.
