We were transiting from Nicaragua to London on United. On the flight out the transfer at Houston was quite smooth. On our return leg it was shambolic. Why you have to enter the US to transit is a mystery. The TSA staff are unprofessional. Signs everywhere say 1 in 4 TSA staff are ex military. The lines were so long that people couldn't get off at the top of the escalator until someone turned it off. People were piling into each other to get off the escalator. Transit any airport in the world and you don't get this service or lack of! Also TSA staff only shout commands - they don't say please or thank you and have no sense of humour.

Brand new machines for Americans re-entering the country. We flew with carry-ons only and clearing customs took only about 15 minutes total. Thanks for the upgrade IAH!

One of the most unappealing airports I visit regularly. The facilities are dirty the food selection is non- existent in Terminal A there are no power outlets the "free" internet does not work and has not worked in over 6 months one of the worst TSA lines if you elect to "opt out" and want the physical pat down and overall it is just plain ugly. The airport looks like it was put together with pieces of leftover airports from other places. If you can avoid the airport do so. For domestic flights consider Hobby Airport as an alternative for getting to/from Houston.

Arrived from Cancun to a very long line at customs a line that did not move for at least 15 minutes. The automated entry kiosks were not being used until another hour of waiting but by that time we were in a line beyond the kiosks. After that line we went to baggage claim where we had to search for our bags which were piled up next to the conveyer belt. We barely made our connection. Felt sorry for all the little kids.

Waiting time in the baggage claim area is terribly long - one of the worst in any US airport I've travelled to.

As a US citizen with a US permanent resident husband we had to go through the international line rather than the US citizen line. Students traveling with us (all US citizens) were through immigration at least 30 minutes faster than we were and we were in the faster lane. Absolutely no line for them with an international queue ridiculously long and only a few people assisting. We only made our connecting flight because one person in the security check line took pity on us and moved us up with the students if not immigration and the security at this poorly designed airport would have caused us to miss a flight that we should have had 2.5 hours to catch.

A huge airport very well run. Has many places to eat and the TexMex place I ate out was very good with great service. Getting around is easy considering its size. Clean and professional.

My son his girlfriend and I arrived from a wonderful one-week vacation trip from Cancun. When the Immigration agent call for my son's girlfriend to her station my son went with her. My son's girlfriend is partially blind and was carrying her cane and tote. As they arrived to the agent she instructed my son to step back after she learned that they don't live together at the same address. My son's girlfriend very gently and courteously told the agent that she couldn't see well (that's why I carried this cane and showed her the walking cane). In fact he is my eyes. When the agent heard this she replied in a very rude tone "That is not an excuse!" When I heard this I could not believe it. In the meantime my son and I went to different agents. She was alone and confused by the time my son got to her. Horrible personnel working at this airport.

It is quite disgraceful how America treats travellers entering USA. No bigger disgrace than this airport. We arrived just after 2pm on a relatively quiet Thursday afternoon. The queue for passport control actually didn't seem that bad however it took well over an hour to be processed. Then followed by the ordeal of going through security to transfer to our next flight. We needed the 3 hours between our flights to get through. On this trip we also transferred through Atlanta Hartsfield from an international flight to domestic and it was much better. If you are arriving into USA don't choose this airport if at all possible.

Upon arriving from a 10hr flight from Amsterdam my wife and I were ready to get home. We were in a line that was moving fine when one of the ladies that works the line instructed us to move to a line where the line was shorter than the others that's when the problems started. There were about 5 or 6 young men filling out their declaration cards on a small table right as the enter to the customs agent. They kept getting in front of us and stood there for several minutes waiting for them to finish. My wife made a comment about how we could have stay where we were and been through by now. As we finally approached the customs agent he went right into a lecture about how in America we respect the military and we agreed then he said that he was made aware about us complaining by one of the young men. Their was nobody in uniform anywhere around including the young men they were in street clothes. Then he crossed a line He called us "un American". That is when things got a little unpleasant. I have never in my life been called that and I lost it. He then threatened me and told me how he could hold me up and how miserable he could make it for me. It saddens me to think that the training or lack thereof for these staff makes them think it is their job is to give lectures.
