"excellent value for money"

Trip Verified | The previous negative reviews about this airport absolutely DO NOT reflect my experience. The check-in staff (VietJet) were great, the queue for passport control was only 15 minutes (and much less for security) and the food/shopping represented excellent value for money. The 500ml bottled water was just $1.80 and the extremely 'stuffed' sandwiches were just $4.50 including a free drink. You simply cannot get value like this in any of the European/Aus/US airports. Boarding, signs, toilet facilities, and all staff, were excellent.

“left me with no other option”

Trip Verified | On arrival to Saigon and while waiting in line at customs I noticed an official watching me, he approached the customs officer and pointed to me then walked off. I thought nothing of it until I reached the counter and the officer told me my visa was canceled without looking at it and pointed in the direction of a manned desk. The offical looking man was waiting for me where I was told I was being sent back to my destination of origin unless I paid $160 USD, they refused to take a card payment and had a network of people working for them to show people how to withdraw cash. Mind you he had taken my passport at this point and left me with no other option. My partner had already cleared customs and was waiting for me with our bags. This was my third holiday to Vietnam, unfortunately it was also my last.

"I don’t feel welcome there"

Not Verified | I had a terrible experience there. I went through the security screening and there was an officer checked out my stuff and pull me over. She asked what did I brought, I told her I had two pack of Marlboro and she saw the receipt. She started to say that you can’t bring in more than one into Vietnam country and asked me to give her $40. I told her I have only $25 and she said to put it on the security screening computer. I don’t feel welcome there.

"Security inefficiently operated"

Trip Verified | This review is for the international terminal. Cleanliness: so-so, some toilets was clean, some was smelly. Shopping & Entertainment: low in both of quantity and quality Dining: below average. Not many restaurant's were opened, and price was very high. WiFi: very slow and used to be disconnected. Immigration & Security inefficiently operated. Had to spend up to 30 minutes to get through the unprofessional and unfriendly immigration, and then another 40 minutes to pass the security.

"Staff were unhelpful"

Not Verified | Staff were unhelpful and did not appreciate the loud hustle of people in booths harassing you to get a taxi or one of those 5g sims data packs. You ask them for anything not related to that and they completely ignore you. Was asking one staff member at the checking in counters a question and he said “that’s not my problem, you figure it out” and then just waved me away like a pest! Absolutely rude mannered. Also noticed that there was zero announcements in the airport, which is a bit strange for an airport.

"Shortage of places to charge devices"

Trip Verified | After reading previous reviews of SGN, had thought it would be a horror for 8 hours. But it was not too bad, really. Firstly the free sleeping area at the end of Gate 27 is not comfortable. It is an area of wooden "boxes" and only enough room for about 6 people. And far from restrooms. But there are outlets to charge nearby so people were there charging and talking loudly so sleep was not an option. Food looked good but was expensive and mostly in $USD. I found a few water dispensers and had my own bottle so did not need to pay outrageous prices for water. One place selling coffee slightly cheaper was Highland Coffee in VND. i paid 60000 VND for a medium Vietnamese coffee. Shortage of places to charge devices at the gates but chairs are more comfortable.

“1.5 hours to get thru immigration”

Trip Verified | Waited for 1.5 hours to get thru immigration. The customer service and attitudes of the immigration officers are the worst in the region. Would not allow infants and pregnant mom to be prioritized.

"lack of organisation"

Not Verified |   We’ve travelled in many Asian countries and never faced such lack of organisation and respect for the travellers. Scams and corruption at every corners from taxi to food outlets and money exchange. Immigration was a shame, hundreds of people in mass, no queues, no one streaming people, 2/3 agents.

“will put us off from flying there again”

Not Verified | It was our worst airport experience to date, and unless things changes, we won't be going there again. Our issues was with the complete lack of free drinking water facility. As a result travelers were forced buy bottled water at an exorbitant price (at >20 times the street price). Our struggle didn't stop there, after we have gone past the main departure security gate where we didn't have any issues with our water bottles, we were intercepted by 2 officers on our way to the our gate where we were asked to empty our water bottles or drink them up. This defines logic, because there's a kiosk at the gate that sells water! This was completely unbelievable. We were told that they have received instructions from the Australian Government to prohibit all passengers flying to Australia to bring bottled water on the plane. Sadly we have some relatives there, but this experience will put us off from flying there again.

"Just a pathetic place"

Trip Verified | Never have we felt so disgusted over an airport, consecutive insulting incidents happened twice just during a transit period from Nagoya on the way to Singapore. The queuing and the flow of the airport is just a complete disaster. During the transit queue to the gates, there was a luggage scanner which was monitored by a lady who was sitting and looking at the screen, while another young chap who was standing like a hooligan chewing gum. So my wife showed the guy a small bag of film cameras and films, and explained that can he check it manually as they will be completely ruined if they go through the scanner (we had no issues in Japan on the previous leg, as they also had sign to ask passengers to let them know if they carry any film camera). But the guy just said NO in a demeaning manner and pointed to the scanner. My wife was taken aback, and in a few seconds all our painstakingly taken photos over the course of months were gone. Just because he tried to act all prowess without hearing any explanation. I am sure he did not even care about what it was that we were trying to say. And that's just one. Another happened at the boarding gate when we were waiting for our flights. This was where we were seated, but decided to walk to the end of the corner to grab some lunch at the restaurant. When we were walking towards it, there was an unnecessary gantry with 2 officials (a lady and a young chap). They stopped us asking where were we going. We said to the restaurant. They asked it one more time and we said again to the restaurant to eat. That's when the young guy became unnecessarily rude and insulting; "we asked you a question, you better just answer it." Then we realized they were actually asking us where we were flying to, in which the lady asked it in another way. So we explained we were sitting on that gate, waiting for our flight to Singapore, and we just wanted to grab some lunch. Then they started to say we were not allowed to go past that lane, unless we threw away all our liquids. We literally bought the bottles of drinks from the shop where we were seated. And I don't understand why we had to do that when it is just a boarding area, and there were shops, cafes, and restaurants around. So I sort of gave up and asked my wife to forget about it and left. There was completely no point to try to talk to these staff over a tiny issue such as eating lunch at their restaurant. We will just consider it perhaps they only have this authority that they can wield in all their pathetic lives. Just a pathetic place.
