Hannover Airport

Not Verified | Hannover ist ein mittelgrosser Flughafen, 5 Mio. Passagier würde ich sagen. Der Flughafen liegt etwa 10 km ausserhalb der Stadt Hannover in Langenhagen. Kurze Wege sind hier ein Vorteil. Die letzten Flüge waren pünktlich, check-in war zügig und auch vor der Luftsicherheitskontrolle war die Wartezeit annehmbar. - Hanover is a medium-sized airport, I would say 5 million passengers. The airport is located about 10 km outside the city of Hanover in Langenhagen. Short distances are an advantage here. The last flights were on time, check-in was quick and the waiting time at air security was also acceptable.

✅ Trip Verified | Arrival at this airport was simple, with its connection to the Hanover S-Bahn (suburban train system). Hanover airport is a convenient size: not an overwhelming number of gates but large enough to have plenty of connections. Check-in today with Swiss Airlines went smoothly: we were asked for our destination visa but not grilled and luggage was processed without difficulty. Security checking was slow today (probably because of Middle East tensions) but security personnel were good humoured and friendly. Cafes and shops on the land side closed before 4 pm; there are limited shopping possibilities on the air side but one good cafe.

Not Verified | On Sunday 8th of March returning on the 19.55 BA flight to Heathrow, we had gone through passport control and security. Also passengers for a Turkish arrive were also waiting at the gate when there was an announcement from the Police that there was a security breach and everyone needed to go back to out and wait and again come through security and passport control. There was chaos as those who had bought duty free had to go back and get their purchases sealed. There were no announcements in English so we had to ask people what was going on. Apparently the crew of the Turkish Airlines had gone through without border and security checks. Delays and confusion were not helped by only having two convey belts used as we all had to go back through security once the all clear was given. No formal apologies. No suggestions of compensation from an airport error. Not a good experience.

✅ Trip Verified | Flying out with Flybe back to Manchester. Power sockets not working in waiting area before check in but that's often the case in many airports (try Manchester T3 for example). It's taking me 50 min to queue for checkin and to queue for passport control. Still got another 10 min to wait until passport control then bags security check. All because there's only 1 staff on passport control for about 600 people, a real fine mess if you don't check in 2 hours before your flight. I'd advise to avoid this airport in its current state.

Hannover is a medium sized airport with all facilities you expect. Great plus are the short ways, good signage, short waiting times at the check-in, security and baggage delivery. Always very clean. Easy to reach by car, bus or train. They have a good selection of restaurants like high quality Mövenpick or even McDonalds, supermarkets, decent duty free and a great aviation exhibition "Welt der Luftfahrt" and observation deck. When you fly Lufthansa or Star Alliance and have a status you get access to a stylish lounge with great apron views. A nice airport I like to use a lot.

Once again I review my home airport. Its now the third time in a row that I arrived by train and the escalator from intermediate floor to departure terminal was out of use. As I am used to it I know alternative ways, but for guests which are new it is not so easy. This should be really improved, as it is an absolute "no go ". This time check in and passing security was fast. However I recommend everybody to pass security as late as possible as behind security check there is actually nothing other than a small duty free, an expensive snack bar, toilets and a small smoking box. Overall I don't like the departure area, however arrival is usually quite good, average time from leaving the aircraft to get out of airport for Schengen flights is 10 mins only.

I live in Hannover and use this airport quiet frequently. Despite its small size which should make it hassle free every time there is something which annoys me. Either the lift and escalator to the train station is not working, or there are long queues in front of security, the WIFI is not working properly or the power plugs don't provide power. Up to now I have never flown from here without a problem. Arrival procedure is very good, luggage usually comes within minutes. Food and beverage is ok for a relative small airport. Parking a car near the terminal is overpriced for short term, from second day its almost same price then for a week. Airport is easy to reach by train but it would be even better if the lift or escalator would work.

It used to be a nice small airport. Easy lay out and everything is close. Lots of parking is available and a good variety of shops. That means the airport should get a good review. But there is also the human part and there is something completely wrong. None of the staff at Hannover smile. Instead you look into grumpy faces. We wanted to have something at one of the bars. We took our seat and waited for the bar tender. He looked at us and gave the order that we have to come around to his cashier. That was done in such a manner that we left. I do not expect the security stuff to always be smiling, but is it too much just to give a short good morning after they have greeted the passenger.

Great medium sized airport. Travel fairly frequent from Hannover, mainly from Terminal B to the UK. The three terminals are very similar. Good city centre connection with S-Bahn. Fast check-in to gate usually, same for arrival to out of door.

Do not land here if you are non-EU and in transit. The airport is designed such that if you are an international transit passenger you have to enter Germany before checking in to a connecting flight (despite the fact that it is with the same airline and the connection is only 80 minutes). This means you need a visa for Germany even if you have no intention of entering the country. No other airport I have ever been do you need to get a visa just for being in transit.
