Hamburg Airport customer review

A bit remote for public transport but easy access by car convenient rental car return near the terminals and short ways within the terminals. Restaurant service after security is not good so eat before.

Hamburg Airport customer review

The airport itself is quite nice enough but they do need to implement a system to get to the city preferably on a train. I had to take a bus then a train and it was all quite confusing. The bus is not located just near the station and if it weren't for very nice and helpful people I would never have found it.

Departed and arrived at HAM for a day trip to LGW with Germanwings. Had checked-in at home and had only carry-on luggage for this short trip. Found parking right in front of terminal early in the morning and was through security and at the gate within 10 minutes. Sufficient number of shops but a bit pricey. WiFi worked flawless and not too expensive at EUR 5.00 for one hour. Upon return the same evening was off the plane and in my car within 10 minutes on the A7 heading home within 20 minutes from arrival. Overall very clean and modern environment. Will have no problems using HAM again in the future.

Hamburg Airport customer review

At the first look HAM Airport is a great airport. But it is really a nightmare when you transfer through it. When you arrive on a regional airplane or your plane is parked off-gate arriving into terminal 1you can't transfer airside that means you have to go through customs leave the security area go upstairs and queue at the security check again. And if you are on a tight connection you will surely miss your flight. Although there is a staircase up including manned security check point available you can't use it. If you ask the staff why you can't just use the stairs they say "because you can't!". In Terminal 2 at equal location it is no problem to use the stairs nor is it a problem to change flights airside when using an air bridge in both terminals. This is absolutely nonsense - and nobody sofar could explain to me why this is. So beware: When you fly via HAM make sure that your plane always gets an airbridge position or leave plenty of time to make your connex!

Hamburg Airport customer review

I was in transit at Hamburg and was directed from one flight to the next very smoothly by Air Berlin staff. Very clean and orderly and glad to see no smoking unlike most German airports. Could not find WIFI though but it might have been me not having my new laptop set up properly. Overall impression was good and did not have time to check out the lounges.

A very clean airport but you have to wait to much for the custom formalities! Not so much free shops in duty-free zone. Generally speaking a good impression but not comparable with Copenhagen airport.

Hamburg Airport customer review

A beautiful airport and extremely clean. Check in painless as they had BA self check machines. It is let down however by the huge distance between gates that one has to walk. Also the staff in shops were extremely rude and not very communicative – but I found this in most shops in Hamburg so it is not the fault of the airport! . In one airport newsagents the staff member was more interested in his mobile phone than me. Only looking up to take my money. No thank you or anything. The security on flying to UK is extreme to say the least. X- ray in two points! At the first x-ray they questioned me about a Buddhist protection “amulet” which was in a Japanese silk container and in the process of wanting to see inside they ripped it! You can not buy a replacement in Europe for these at all! (Not that they offered any kind of compensation) The second security post the same thing. They appear to have very little respect toward the pax. I was very happy to leave Hamburg airport. Very beautiful but that is all. Again smokers areas are little stands where there is no seating. You can smoke in a bar there but then you are expected to purchase something to be able to use the seats.

I find this to be a delightful airport well laid out and roomy enough for its traffic. Overall I have had only positive experiences with the facility in 4 visits in the past three years. However the rail link cannot come too soon.

Hamburg Airport customer review

Hamburg is supposedly Germany's second biggest city but you wouldn't think so judging by the size of this airport. Plans are underway for a rail link to the city centre but in the mean time there is either a regular bus transfer to the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) or a bus and U-bahn (subway) combination. In any case neither takes particularly long. Most scheduled traffic for all the usual European cities leaves from Terminal 4 which is a small but bright and airy facility with all the usual suspects such as BA AF and LX operating a ticket desk. The Lufthansa business class lounge is comfortable and spacious but like all their other lounges worldwide need a serious revamp. The grey and amber colour scheme is very dated and it looks like a school teachers' common room. Arriving and departing were both hassle-free and although the airport is nothing shout about does the job very well.
