Glasgow Airport customer review

Worst experience May 2013 flying from Glasgow to deli via Dubai. Immigration queue was long and was moving very slowly obviously due to less counters and very slow operators at the counters. Incidentally the security officer was not able to scan my passport (although I travelled on the same passport 2 months back) and had to enter the details manually which took a long time. The officer was courteous and smiling so the wait at least didn't feel so bad.

Very disappointed in the facilities offered at the sky lounge plenty of alcohol if you are wanting to get plastered before your flight but nothing but small snacks and not a great selection of these. I have travelled extensively and use business lounges worldwide but these facilities certainly do not meet with my requirements. A sandwich would have been welcome.

Reasonable airport experienced worse. Flew out to Orlando on a family holiday. Made use of the multi airline lounge using my Air France Platinum card. Was disappointed by the lack of politeness shown by the staff to some travellers who had children with them. They let the airport down and gave a poor lasting memory to the foreign travellers.

Glasgow has improved greatly over the years. Upon arrival there is a drop off zone a bit away from the entrance monitored by Wardens where you can DROP OFF only. After you walk to the terminal Most Check-Ins are located in the main terminal but if you are flying with Charter Companies like Air Transat/Thomas Cook and Virgin you have to check in at the St Andrews Building (labeled as T2 it only houses check in facilities - you must go back into the main terminal for Security.) Everyone passes through the same security but it moves swiftly and quickly. Information is clear and liquid limits are on display before entering the security checkpoint. After passing through the Duty Free (Stick to the white path to save yourself from the salespeople) are more shops and dining and seating. Follow signage for your gate but don't go until your flight is announced. On all the piers there is a lack of seating as well as lack of shops/dining/toilets. Stick to the main area. Friendly staff. Quick Security and easy access. Arrivals is easy with relatively short lines for UK/EU passport holders. Baggage quick.

Arrived in GLA from Dublin recently. Passengers were bussed to a dedicated Ireland arrivals point. This area is crying out for a lick of paint. It is a very dull and depressing entry point to what is a lovely city. What stood out most was that the floors were visibly filthy. Shame on those who manage the airport.

We have travelled many times over the past 15 years or so and have always found Glasgow Airport to be easy to negotiate and friendly if in need of assistance. There is always somewhere to sit and have a drink or some food and the staff are friendly and helpful. I have read some of the negative reviews and think perhaps people expect too much - it's an airport not a 5 star hotel.

The airport has a dated and rather depressing feel as if it is part of one of the budget supermarket chains but with aircraft parked outside. Some of the hotels are too close to the terminal to have a shuttle bus but far enough away to get soaked if you are hauling heavy luggage. Departures is on the floor above check-in. To get there you have to go passed a charity desk whose occupants try to get your attention. A bit like being stopped in the high street. Security was very quick. You then have to walk through an extensive area of shops (the only part of the airport that feels bright and modern). Some of the seats near the gates were dirty with the gap between the cushion and seat back full of crumbs.

I stayed in the airport hotel the night before leaving for Dubai. The airport was really nice and the staff were friendly. The airport itself was reasonable. When you first go in and look at the original terminal building from inside you think that it should get knocked down or hidden from view. Security was a breeze even at half 1 in the afternoon. The international pier was grotty and had faint graffiti on some of the walls. The seating was uncomfortable and dirty. The air bridge was rusting and was nothing like other global air bridges. The flight to Dubai was very gentle and over all I'm happy with Glasgow airport. We normally transit through Heathrow so Glasgow was a great alternative.

The layout is cumbersome and signage exceptionally poor. Ground floor is an aesthetic reminder of a 1980's bus station and car park and finally - public transport access using rail and bus travel is appalling. They can't even provide a shelter at Paisley Gilmour Street Station that's big enough for a dozen passengers and luggage everyone stands around in the dark soaking in the rain!
