Glasgow Airport customer review

Security staff are courteous and efficient. However airbridges are rusting and in a decrepit state seating at departure gates is filthy and very uncomfortable. The toilets whilst cleaned regularly are in need of a major overhaul as fittings are worn. Overall the general feeling of Glasgow Airport is worn-out grubbiness that nothing but a complete refit will fix. I also don't understand the system for the gates which Flybe and BA use where you have to show your boarding pass (again) to get there and when you do there's very little in the way of food/drink available other than the overpriced bar at gates 19 20 etc. However the worst is the gauntlet of duty free to get to the gates. It's very cynical and annoys me that BAA seem to care mostly about the retail part of their operation.

Dirty and disorganised airport. Huge queues at security a lot of the terminal a building site but the main facilities were unclean. Toilets in arrivals and departures had were dirty had no soap and only one tap was working. A well known coffee outlet had serviettes on the floor piled up mugs and plates everywhere.

Flew here to Islay good check in good facilities. Other side of security good seating at gate. Good bus service to Paisley Gilmour street which only takes 10-15 minutes.

The drop off/pick up zone is modern well sign posted and only a few minutes walk into the main terminal for check-in along a covered walkway. Landside facilities have greatly improved in recent months with many new eating establishments and so on and you can now walk from the main terminal into T2 without having to go outside again. There is limited option for shopping before going through security to the departure area but they have a few bureuax de change and various food outlets and bars. Security waiting time was about 10mins and seemed to be very efficient since it looked busy. There is a large duty free shopping zone which you have to pass through to get to the gates. Once you are airside there are various shopping eating and drinking facilities although on the international area these are limited and the shops look empty. The international area also became very warm and uncomfortable considering it wasn't a warm day. Boarding gates are well sign posted and there are quite a few information boards telling you where to go. On arrival we waited a while at passport control as a few flights had arrived at the same time but not any longer than any other airport. Baggage was delivered fairly quickly with no problems. There is a 24 hour bus service operating every 10-15mins which takes you into Glasgow City Centre directly and also stops at the main train stations and bus station. Overall I would say that Glasgow Airport has greatly improved in recent years.

Flew in early morning before 9 am and my fellow passengers and I were stuck on the Pier until a member of staff arrived to open the door to the baggage reclaim area not a great start! Flying out made the mistake of by-passing the landside shops and going straight through security only to discover very little on offer on the other side. Had no money to spend on books so waited at a crowded boarding gate with my iPod. From my experience it's definitely worth doing your homework before you use the airport and if you like the shops stay landside for as long as possible or else bring a good book! Some good points however - terminal layout means several different search points so security queues were not an issue for me. Bus to the City Centre is regular fast and inexpensive although a rail link would be welcomed too.

Glasgow claims to be a major international airport yet we were unable to find any French newspapers at the two airport bookshops. When I enquired why I was told that there was no demand for them!

The drop off and pick up zones are ridiculous especially the pick up. It worked okay before but is now a complete disaster. No space and long queues for tickets. Inside fairs little better with unfriendly staff general unhelpfulness. It's like a disused shopping mall inside with the number of shops and few people using them. All in all a dreadful airport to be avoided. I would sooner drive extra distance to Edinburgh.

Drop off point here is inadequately sheltered and if dropped at the end with a large amount of luggage a long walk from the first available entrance into the airport (got very wet before we even checked in). Picking up not much better small dark pick up area that costs £1 (previously free) taxi driver mentioned a lot of trade now going to the white airport taxis as private taxis can't hang around if someone is late (maybe this was part of the plan?). Not a good travel experience and fail to see any positive aspect of this change from what was there previously.

The free pick up point at Glasgow airport did not last very long. They have now introduced a very small draughty and badly positioned pick up point where passengers have to walk further to get to it and drivers have to pay £1 just to drive in to pick people up. So now there is no way for a passenger to leave the airport without incurring an extra charge of some sort.

A typical medium sized airport that for the most part works well. However the biggest challenge here is to return a rental car. All a result of a failed terrorist attempt two years ago you have to deal with poor to non-existent signposting that has you snaking through a veritable maze including the "kiss and go" passenger drop off area. Allow extra time for this and be prepared to go around the block to try again!
