A very disappointing airport experience. Immigration processing was taken care off by a lone man who looked very unhappy and seemed like he wanted to take out his frustration on innocent travelers - really unfriendly. Once inside the terminal the walk from arrivals to departures in order to switch flights was endless and dull. It took forever to find a monitor and even longer to find out which gate to proceed to. I waited 20 mins at a customer service desk and was ignored. Finally arriving after much detective work at the right gate announcement concerning the reason the flight was delayed varied wildly from snow on the ground to maintenance problems to having to pick up the kids early from day-crew. All in all quite sub standard in terms of information and convenience. However it was spotlessly clean.

This must be the most pedantic and inconsistent airport in the world when comes to security avoid this airport at all costs! I flew through 4 major international hubs including Heathrow and USA in a 7 day period but once I got to Frankfurt security confiscated and tested all my hand luggage. This would be fine if it was the same everywhere but it's not and this airport is one of the worst in the world for entry from another country just avoid.

After 9 hours flying from YVR I arrived at FRA expecting German efficiency at it's best and was surprised to find one of the most cramped long and inefficient airports I've visited. When we finally got off the plane we stood on the hot tarmac for 10 minutes. My connecting flight left in 1 hr 15 mins so wasn't rushed. When the bus finally arrived we took a 10 minute ride and then experienced another 10 minute wait this time on the bus. When I finally reached the airport I was greeted by an extremely un-appealing old building with a construction filled hallway that went on for at least 2 or 3 km's. No air conditioning and it was an almost 30 degree day but I have noticed that this is a pattern in European airports. Reached what I thought was customs but turned out to be more security only 3 different security doors which caused a gigantic line the scanner must have been very sensitive because I saw no one make it through without a pat down including me even though I was cleared in Vancouver. When I got through I realized what was first over an hour was now only 30 minutes and I saw yet another queue this one for a train. When I got off the train and through another gigantic line for customs I had only 15 minutes. After another long walk through the depths of FRA the hallway split revealing another line when passed through I was running I just made my flight by seconds where surprise surprise I was loaded onto a bus And all this after a 9 hour flight. I would recommend for people to stay away from FRA if possible because it is a gigantic mess full of inefficient security and customs and long hot lines.

My 20 year old daughter was travelling via Lufthansa on her own from Birmingham to Doha transiting via Frankfurt at the beginning of July. Her connection was 75 minutes from a Lufthansa flight to another Lufthansa flight. She missed her connection and ended up having to pay for another ticket and an overnight stay in Frankfurt as there is only one flight a day to Doha. On arrival at Frankfurt the plane was met by a bus which took 15 minutes from landing to her reaching the terminal. Then had to join a deep queue to pass through security. Repeatedly asked to be fast tracked as her connection time was quite tight but was ignored. She finally got through security and made her way as fast as possible to her departure gate in terminal B only to find that her plane had departed. She had to pay for a new ticket and would need to pay for a night in a hotel. To make things worse her bags hadn't made the Birmingham flight and were following on and on their advise waited a further 2 hours for her bags only then to be told they had gone via Dubai and would be waiting for her! No attempt was made by Lufthansa nor the security people at the airport to help my daughter catch her plane. My family have transited through many airports on our way to and from the UK since moving here to Qatar including Frankfurt on a number of occasions but since this experience we will not be using Lufthansa ever again and certainly would avoid Frankfurt like the plague.

I have now had two transit experiences at Frankfurt am Main Airport terminal both in July 2013. I am travelling on a Star Alliance ticket so each time I want to fly in Europe Lufthansa takes me to Frankfurt. This costs me both time and money since it uses unnecessary air miles and if course one needs to factor in landing and take off time transit time and potential delays with each stage. Now I know that you also have to factor in potential very long bus rides to the wrong end of the terminal for your individual purposes. In my case the first time both planes were parked at one end of the airport but the departure gate was at the other extreme. In the second case one of the planes actually did connect to the terminal but the walk was still very long and even in the business class lounge I was warned of this. To my mind this terminal and Lufthansa ticketing and scheduling policy serve the interests of the airline and the terminal and not the interests of the customers!

This is the most abysmal airport flown through. I was traveling with my wife and a small baby with a stroller with a tight connection. The fact that the gates for the connection were far apart are not the airport's fault. However the overall experience at Frankfurt was extremely inefficient and caused us to nearly miss our connection. We waited 10 mins for an employee to get the stroller off the plane whereas at other airports the stroller is waiting for you when you get off the plane. Unlike other airports given the distance to travel no vehicle was offered to transport us to the next gate so we walked over 1 mile (with no moving sidewalks they were all operating in the opposite direction). Then you continue to go up and down levels (very difficult with a stroller especially when some of the elevators are out of order). Also some access is blocked for strollers requiring a staff member to open a gate. Finally for an airport that is known for transfers it seems bizarre that a passenger continually hits passport checks thus wasting time (isn't one passport check enough for a connecting passenger not even staying in Germany)? Bottom line I would never transfer in Germany again I would much rather use Heathrow in Europe which has proper processes for connection passengers.

Had to transfer through this airport from San Francisco and I must say it was the worst experience transfer I have had. They used buses to transfer us from the airplane to the gate. They left us waiting on the bus for 10 minutes with doors closed then left us walking to the gate. I asked at the information if there was an automatic water machine to fill my bottle and the reply was to go to the toilets! Extremely poor signage and the staff were very rude and uncivilized. You should definitely avoid this airport!

I recently passed through Frankfurt Main on a trip from Prague to Singapore. I found the signposting to be inadequate and spent 35 minutes walking around before we found the correct terminal and gate. For such a large airport staff are needed such as are to be found in Singapore Airport to assist travellers find their way.

Transited this airport on return Gatwick to Sydney via Frankfurt and Hanoi. After we arrived we where given transit cards and had Business class lounge passes to star alliance lounge. We could not find lounge very badly sign posted eventually found it with 3 other passengers. Then was told that we could not use lounge as we are not entitled to. After myself and 3 other customers explained we were transit passengers and this was a star alliance flight she begrudgingly let us in. No PA or flight board and very limited food even though this was 2 pm in afternoon. They need to fix their game definitely not up to the usual standard we experienced in Germany.
