"do not provide small trolleys"

(France)

Everything in the airport is fine as far as I know, apart from one thing. They do not provide small trolleys as some other airports do for long walks with hand luggage. We arrived from Copenhagen (where they do provide small trolleys) and had to walk from one extreme end of Frankfurt airport to the other, with only just over one hour between flights, so there was not enough time to just stand on the moving walkway or we would have missed our flight to Toulouse. Unfortunately I do not have wheels on my hand luggage so I had to carry it and I am suffering from tendinitis in my shoulder. I hope the airport management sees this complaint, as I was unable to find a place on their website to give a review.

"fly via Munich instead"

(Germany)

Transit at Frankfurt Main from a domestic flight to non-Schengen flight. As always a hassle. Arriving outside the terminal, need to take the train to main terminal and the train arrives outside security area, therefore a second security check after long walk. I had 90 minutes time between flights and this really makes you stressed in Frankfurt. If you fly Lufthansa fly via Munich instead of Frankfurt whenever possible.

"passport control was a breeze"

(Canada)

Frankfurt Airport is a very clean and well organized. Staff are friendly and kind. The bathrooms are clean and the marble flooring is nice. The airport is well laid out and lines are short - passport control was a breeze.

"airport is not as expected"

(Romania)

Verified Review | I used Frankfurt Main Airport twice in September for connection flights to Bucharest and Valencia, operated by Lufthansa. For every flight we were bused from and to plane. Long time in buses and long distances to walk in terminal to reach the departure gate. First, for 1.5 hrs. layover, after security I had time only for a cigarette. At return, for 5.5 hrs. layover we decided to visit Frankfurt, so used the train witch connects the airport to city center. Easy to reach, but some issues with signage and ticket vending machines. Back in airport, again queues for security and passport controls. Staff was polite and professional. I found the airport is not as expected for German standards. Smelly toilets, dirty and unventilated smoking lounges, food / drinks not impressive, nothing interesting to shop. Positive thing is the amazing view over the tarmac, lot of wide-body planes here.

"well signed, well equipped"

(Germany)

Verified Review | I have been using the Frankfurt airport for the last 2.5 years with an average frequency of about once per month. The airport is really large, with very long walk distances, not always served by walking belts. I always have to walk between the point of arrival/departure of the Lufthansa bus and the gate of the plane, which I estimate is an average of about 1.5 Km, often running because of delays. This is the one downside of it, but it is not the fault of the airport, but of Lufthansa. Otherwise, the airport is clean, well signed, well equipped, with a very large selection of shops/dinners with not exorbitant prices and you don't have to get out to reach the train station. For me, it is better than most large European hubs, although is it limited to pure functionality, with no luxuriousness at all.

"not a single smile"

(Denmark)

I have been to quite a few airports in my life and I have to say that Frankfurt was by far the worst one. The staff working there ordered everyone around like they where in the military. Not a single smile or nice tone of voice - I mean every single person there had that attitude. I understand that they are very busy and have to deal with a huge amount of people every day, but how come other airports manage to be friendly? It is definitely possible to give instructions - especially at the security points - without being rude. Also the food selection was very limited in parts of the airport.

"not enough space for taxis"

(Germany)

When will Frankfurt airport abandon their stupid system for taxis at Terminal 1? 5 different taxi queues, not enough space for the taxis to pull up outside the terminal. No clear indication where the queue starts or stops. Just confusion. Not the taxi drivers fault. They are just as frustrated. It's a management issue. Please admit you got it wrong and fix it.

"signposting is very confusing"

(United Kingdom)

The signposting at Frankfurt is very confusing as noted by another reviewer. In my case I was looking for the station and there were signs to the station but then they gave out completely, so I followed the last sign to the left as directed but there was no station there. After some time I went back again and asked and it turned out that one has to get a bus to the station. There is nothing to tell passengers about this. Also, if one has to take shoes off at security why can't the staff return them to the passenger once they have been cleared? We have to cross the filthy floor used by thousands of people in outdoor shoes in socks to retrieve them after they have been proved to be free from any explosive devices. It is very insulting and surprising in an otherwise comparatively civilised country.

"rather embarrassed what Frankfurt has to offer"

(Australia)

Verified Review | I had the chance to experience Frankfurt Airport with my family to depart for Bangkok from Terminal 1. We had to drop our hire car off at T2 first which isn't convenient but quite common at airports and the drop off itself was fine in an underground carpark. However what followed then was just poor all the way through to departure. First you get charged 1€ for a bag trolley, which you do not get back by the way. Considering airport fees and taxes being high anyway and built into ticket prices I consider it basic to provide foc trolleys amd therefore non refundable fees a rip off. We had to get to Level 4 to catch the skytrain connecting the terminals and one would expect that this is an easy task, well its not in Frannkfurt let me tell you. We had to change elevators twice to get there as we couldn't use the escalators having 5 suitcases with family and kids. Some elevators would connect only two levels with each other? But this wasn't the only problem the lift entrance was so small you could only drive into them with a trolley if your luggage was lenghtwise on it which wasn't possible, to make matters worse we had to unload and upload everything several times just to get into the lift and because they were so small we needed several rides to get the family up to the next level. Finally arriving at the skytrain guess what? You were not allowed to take a trolley onto it. So off we go again unloading bags and family into the train and obviously vice versa on the other end including the lift scenario so it took us a good 30 mins with lots of stress and anger just to get between the 2 terminals. Having travelled through lots of international and domestic terminals before I have to say this is by far the worst I have seen. Next thing you notice is that someone very clever had the idea to name check in halls and gates the same way, with letters A B C but the signage inside the terminal does not refer to hall or gate just to A B C. Result is that people circum navigating the whole terminal until the finally get to the right spot, not many staff on the floor to ask nor on the info desks or floorside. Finally we got through security and passport control to have a bite to eat just to be welcomed by a smell of urine across the restaurant floor. So did we like Frankfurt? I guess not and being German myself rather embarrassed what Frankfurt has to offer/or not.

"worst experience ever"

(United Kingdom)

Verified Review | Worst experience ever. Gate far to far out, security check queue just in front of the gate, no shops around gate (Terminal 2 D 52). No smoking area (even though there was a sign). Bad organisation, have been to airports all over the world, wouldn't have expected that in Germany. Even Frankfurt Hahn or the smaller airports in Asia were better than this.
