"Avoid T1 if possible"

(Germany)

Trip Verified | Avoid T1 if possible! They increase the number of flight slots but did not increase security control capacity. Even with a Senator you need to wait 30 min Monday morning. They will put the blame to the airline or to the police because their is no capacity, but it’s at the end of the day their greed and LUfthansas greed to maximize profits not caring about service.

"I didn’t feel welcome"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Transition was fast and the airport signs were helpful. The only issue I had was with the guy in the security checkpoint. I asked him about the rules here about one of my items which he wanted to throw away. He responded in a very rude manner and told me “America is your dream land, it’s different here”. I had a wonderful trip before talking to this guy. I’m sorry that my first visit to this airport was a bad experience, I didn’t feel welcome.

"a shocking airport"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | Worst airport I've ever used for a transfer. Arrived at gate B21 with 1 hour 10 mins to get to gate B33. But instead of attaching the walkway bridge to the plane, so we could exit into the terminal we had to get on buses. Now the 1st bus filled up fast. But the next bus didn't show up for a good ten minutes leaving a lot of passengers freezing on the tarmac. The bus then took us, to what seemed to be the start of theme B section. But it wasn't it was the start of terminal. We now had to go through the entire airport security, and passport control and to the other end of the terminal in less than one hour. I was already airside so why did we had to go back to the front and start again? I'd cleared security in Italy!! Almost missed the flight, only made it due to me pushing to the front of security and pushing in at the few passport e gates. Flight was also delayed so that helped. Unfortunately, my luggage didn't make the flight. All in all a shocking airport that cannot cope with demand. Avoid, fly elsewhere.

"really poor customer experience"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | I thought JFK was a bad airport but Frankfurt you win. So mixed up and really poor customer experience especially if you are flying Lufthansa. Be prepared to visit at least 4 counters before you are checked in. This is after you have done all the work of checking in online.

"huge queue at security"

(Ukraine)

Trip Verified | The worst airport I have ever been in. If you plan to use this airport be prepared for huge queue at security check which happens after passport control right before the gates. There was 2 planes at same security check line : Sofia and Kyiv. All together around 370 people. Security check is very pedant and moves with more or less 4 persons per minute. Lot of people did not made it on both flights. So if you want to be 30 minutes before a flight be prepared to be at security check 2 hours before a flight. Passport control for departure is more or less OK, while for arrival for non EU citizens it's terrifyingly slow. Check-in is also slow, however if you have only hand baggage you can avoid it with electronic ticket. Summary - for arrival take into account 2 hours for passport control for non EU citizens, for departure be 3 hours before the flight at airport if you have e-ticket, and forget about duty free and food ,run straight to the security check at gate. If you need check-in at airport arrive 4 hours before a flight otherwise you may miss it. Good luck

"easy to find your way"

(France)

Trip Verified | What a big hub, but it is so easy to find your way in the international terminal. There was a change for gate and we have been taken in charge by airport crew with class and smile. The border police was quick to check. And for smokers it is easy to fnd a smoking area.

"It is functional"

(Portugal)

Trip Verified | It is functional. This is how I feel about it. It works, it is very clean, but it does not stand out nor does it differentiate itself from others. Following signs is very easy, as it is easily marked. Efficient. And it is rather spacious.

"aggressive, hostile and authoritarian"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | We arrived in Terminal 1 on Lufthansa flight LH 573 from Johannesburg at around 05.30 and, upon disembarkation, started to make our way to Zone B to wait for our connecting flight, LH 5302 to Bristol, scheduled to depart at 09.50. We arrived at the security screening area at around 06.00, which was not busy and, after queuing for only two or three minutes, were directed to gate no 5. There was a lady passenger in front of us who was receiving a very un-necessary and brusque lecture from the staff member on what she should and should not have done to avoid having her liquid toiletries confiscated. My wife and I are in our early 70s and were very tired after the long, overnight flight. We travel extensively and are quite used to what is expected of us during the security screening process, having been through it literally dozens of times at numerous other airports all over the world. We have only been to Frankfurt Airport twice before, the first time in June 2015 and the second time on 5th October on our way to Johannesburg. On neither of the previous occasions were there any difficulties in passing through the screening process. To make the usual procedure as simple as possible, I was carrying only a rucksack containing clothes and a camera with a "bum" bag round my waist containing a Kindle and passports etc. These items, together with my wristwatch and spectacles were placed in the plastic tray provided, as I have found from past experience that these items often cause problems with the metal detectors. However, the staff member was most aggressive towards me and barked his instructions (they were certainly not requests) at us to remove my "all electronics" from the rucksack. I told him there was no laptop, only a camera but he insisted that I remove it, which was the first time I have ever been required to do so. Consequently, I queried it and he became even more aggressive, accused me of being stressed, told me to calm down and remove the camera which, of course, I did. He then demanded that I turn out the contents of my pockets, which I told him only contained only a handkerchief. Once again, I queried his instructions as I have never been subjected to such demands anywhere else in the world. He then shouted at me that I was to be going through the body scanner and that it was essential that everything was removed from my pockets. I then queried whether it was necessary to remove the belt from my trousers (which had a large metal buckle) and my trainers, but was told dismissively that this was not necessary. Needless to say, the camera, rucksack, "bum" bag, wristwatch, spectacles and handkerchief all passed through the scanner satisfactorily. As did I, although I was subjected to a brief "pat down" (and to which I did not object) before being allowed to proceed. My wife was also rudely questioned by a female staff member about the contents of her pockets, which contained four paper tissues. Like me, she had never previously been subjected to such an aggressive, hostile and authoritarian demand.

"Endless queuing for security"

(Germany)

Not Verified | Endless queuing for security check, lots of nervous and exhausted people, staff seems to be in an undeclared strike - queuing for security check over 1 hour is normal! Only half of the checkpoints working - no respect for the customer, nobody cares if flights are lost! Seems they want to force economy customers to pay for 'fast track'? Never seen this in another european airport! Partly rude staff.

"avoid for connecting flights"

(United States)

Not Verified | If you have other options, avoid this airport for connecting flights. Avoid it or plan 3.5 hours + layover at least so you can make it to the gate in time. Utterly disappointed by how disorganized this major airport is. It took me almost 1.5 hours to get through the security lines. We had another connection earlier this year with yet another similar delay through the scanners. Staff is surprisingly unfriendly and lack common sense and basic consideration. Back in September when we were connecting from Bucharest to Chicago through Frankfurt the first flight was delayed and when we landed we only had about 20 mins to get to the gate. Our hopes to catch the next flight in time sunk after we arrived at the security lines. We asked airport staff members and explained that we will miss our flight but the only answer that we were given was "Everybody has to wait". We ended up running (and my wife was pregnant at the time) towards the gate and thankfully there was a delay with the next flight too. But not everyone is as lucky as we were. You can feel the tense atmosphere and the frustration radiating from everyone at the security lines. The only airport (that I have been to) where you need to work out to catch your flight.
