"Bizarre experience, overall"

(Germany)

Trip Verified | This airport is one of the most weirdly inept airports I have ever been to, even for a 3rd world country. The Moroccan style cafe we waited in initially, in the main airport lounge pre-security check was open but completely un-staffed for a couple of hours until finally, they closed. What's up with that? Then, at the security check in they took from me, and tossed, my silver plated, miniature forks that I had bought as souvenirs, as well as a miniature metal fork that I got on a Lufthansa flight, on the plane, all of these, had prongs no longer than 1.5cm, when up to 6cm are allowed, and I have previously passed through at least 50 airport security checks all over the world without any problem, with my metal Lufthansa fork, last time as recently as a week ago on my way to Fez. Clearly, their security staff are ill-informed and need retraining. Inside the departures waiting area, despite being in Morocco, all the prices were shown only in euros, which makes no sense, since this isn't even Europe, but Africa. This made it really hard what to choose in order to spend the maximum of my last Dirhams. For the boarding then, even though the big screen would read "boarding open", it didn't provide a gate number, and the guy staffing one of the gates didn't know, either. If he doesn't know, who would? Bizarre experience, overall.

"this airport is horrible"

(Australia)

Trip Verified | Creepy staff and poor facilities! I recently experienced a 13 hour delay, and every staff member simply walked away when asked about flight updates! I could not believe the rudeness. Passengers were asking for water, which was initially refused. During my 13 hour wait, I went to the window to take a photo, and 2 security guards came up behind me and said “no photos are allowed to be taken, except for a beautiful woman like you”. When I replied I was taking the photo to send to my husband, one of the security guards looked me up and down and said the the other “oh, this one is a husband”. Are you kidding me? There was enough intimidating male behaviour in the streets of Fez, let alone having to cop it from airport staff!Bathroom cleaning staff allowed smoking in the bathroom for a handshake payment, which makes the whole terminal smell like cigarette smoke, and after 13 hours waiting, I had a sore throat and stinging eyes from this. Not a single electricity socket in the entire terminal, and wifi cuts out after 2 hours, which is frustrating when you have to spend 13+ hours waiting for a flight - the worst coffee and the minimal food options were horrible and stale. Fly from Marrakech if you can, this airport is horrible.

"It is an enormous improvement"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | In May 2017 the new international airport terminal was opened in Fez. It is an enormous improvement and upgrade on the previous terminal with a much more spacious and aesthetically pleasing environment. In departures security can sometimes be a little slow but there is a clear and effective process which is greatly improved as compared to the old terminal. Border checks on both arrivals and departures are much more efficient and swift. There is a lounge available as well as pleasant shops and cafes in both arrivals hall and departures. An entirely upgraded and pleasant experience travelling to/from Fez.

"chaos and a mess"

(United Kingdom)

This airport is chaos and a mess. There is little or no information regarding procedures at the airport. Even though you hold your pre printed boarding pass they require you to still use a check in desk first even though you are only using carry on. Security are supposed to stop anyone from getting to passport control who doesn't have the official stamp on their boarding pass but they don't so you queue for ages for passport control only to be sent back to Check in. So it makes pre printing the boarding pass a joke but you have to do it because that's what Ryanair want you to do. Queues are long and slow for passport control but I suppose that's the case for many airports these days. Security is pretty thorough although your not required to remove liquids from your carry on. Gate staff were however very efficient especially enforcing queuing prior to boarding. There's not much once your at the gate area a couple of shops a lounge and a prayer area. It's quite a small terminal so space is tight and if you e got two flights departing close together you'll have to fight for a seat. There's free wifi at the airport but be aware you only get 1 hour 30 minutes over a two day period. So bottom line is if your a regular at this airport and you know their particular requirements then it's not that bad, but for first time visitors it's s nightmare.
