"the design of the security hall is a mess"

(United Kingdom)

Outward - 6 o'clock on the Sunday morning and the security "rat-run" is in chaos. The design of the security hall is a mess. I had an hour and 15 mins after bag-drop and found that after clearing security, I had enough time to visit the badly needing cleaned loos before my flight boarded. Staff are obviously under pressure and show that in their dealings with you. If the volume of traffic at Edinburgh is to increase as predicted then this already creaking system will grind to a halt. Inward - Welcome to Scotland! First experience of touching back on Scottish soil is a man shouting instructions at the top of his voice regarding the use of electronic passport gates. Impersonal, rude and hardly the image we wish to show our visitors. Needless to say, the instructions were only shouted in English, any non-native speaker must have wondered why the man was angry! Must try harder Edinburgh - it is not good enough as a capital city airport.

"security staff are grumpy and rude"

(Australia)

The worst airport I have ever had the misfortune to use. From the outside it is a shambles, the worst design ever. The car, parking, taxi, pedestrian system is awful. You have to pay £1 just to be dropped off. Departure lounge is terrible, and no free wi-wi. Not too clean either The security staff are grumpy and rude. If you have luggage in the hold be prepared for a long wait. Awful just awful.

"automatic passport scanners not being used"

(United Kingdom)

Coming in from Amsterdam on Sunday 16th August. Surprising that although there are automatic passport scanners available, they weren't being used, meaning we had to queue up. Baggage delivery was reasonable (about 20 minutes).

"embarrassing to be Scottish"

(United Kingdom)

Edinburgh Airport, worst airport I've experienced. Unhelpful staff at check in with confusing system. Security is an absolute shambles. Embarrassing to be Scottish. Travelling alone was difficult with a toddler. Leaving baggage alone for long periods due to large back log going through scanners. A lot of shouting from staff. Lifting large trays to collect luggage difficult with buggy as it is crowded no space and you need to leave buggy and child alone.

"no space to pick up your belongings"

(United Kingdom)

Oh my, who on earth approved the new security hall at Edinburgh Airport. It was chaos. Having to stand on coloured feet, passengers elbowing past everyone, shambles. No space to pick up your belongings if you were lucky enough to get them back before additional checks. Concerned that the X-ray staff were also performing body searches. They spent money refurbishing duty free, more retail outlets. They have obviously thrown out the soft play for children for more Costa Coffee seating. They have spent all this money only for the customer experience to get worse. Will try and use Glasgow next time.

Edinburgh Airport customer review

(United Kingdom)

Appalling, simply awful. Badly overcrowded check in hall. Slow security with rude and unhelpful staff. Irritating winding walk through a rip off duty free Departure area that is overfull with "pop-up" kiosks selling tat, bars fuelling hen and stag do's and nowhere quiet to sit and work. Continual noisy PAs about "boarding being denied". If you have any sort of choice avoid at all costs. Oh I forgot to mention the toilets with 10 urinals but only two hand driers, of which one has been broken for a month.

Edinburgh Airport customer review

(United Kingdom)

Departure experience ok with no major problems and quickly through security. Arrival straightforward through passport control. Main issue was with baggage. Landed from New York just before 7.30am. Baggage didn't start coming through until 8.20am. Nothing to explain delay and flights arriving after ours seemed to be getting their baggage ok. While wait was frustrating for us it was certainly not a good first impression of Edinburgh for some of the American passengers on our plane who were just starting their holiday.

Arrived from Malaga delayed flight. Remote stand and buses took us a 20 min ride to terminal. On arrival passport control very efficient, then to baggage area - people from last flight there collecting their baggage. We arrived at 10.55 pm approx, screens stated baggage arriving 11.15 pm - waited.11.20 pm still nothing. Another plane load of people came through, headed for the next baggage belt, where their luggage was coming off! Helpful ground crew, tried calling to see what had happened to our luggage, no answer. Finally arrived approx 11.35. Haven't ever been so fed up at Edinburgh airport. How did this happen when only 3 flights had landed with time between them? 2/10 for this experience

Edinburgh Airport customer review

(United Kingdom)

The queue for security started in a corralled area on the ground floor. You could not use the escalator. The queue wound it way up the stairs then wound up and down till eventually reaching the boarding pass scanner machines. The Security person there was insistent that people used the left hand queue. What a nightmare that was. The queue went down the length of the security room. Then back up the way we had come. Then back down again. We were in this queue 50 minutes. When we got to the trays we did not follow along side them but were headed off sideways to the body scanners thus losing sight of our belongings and partners. Locating both again took a while. The people who were not corralled left but went straight on seemed to reach the trays a lot quicker. I noticed that some tray areas stopped working in spite of the enormous queue we were in. We just made our flight making a nonsense of the Speedy Boarding I had purchased from Easy Jet. It was the worst security check experience I have ever endured. Also Edinburgh Airport car park is a nightmare with low concrete barriers separating very narrow exits that are side by side. While manoeuvring my newish Honda into one of these exits I have made a large dent in the front bumper which will cost a lot to fix. It is a terrible airport

Edinburgh Airport customer review

(Japan)

A sad gateway to the capital city of my country. Arrival from Doha and off a swish B787 to wander down steps and along corridors to an arrivals hall seemingly held together with duct tape and high hopes, the exit sign was stretched across 4 sheets of A4 and coloured in with a felt pen. OK, it's a work in progress. Passport control was efficient enough and once through you get a sense of where the airport managers priorities lie with a nice selection of shops. Something confirmed going the other way, it's all rather grubby at the check-in and the security is a mess but once past all that and in to the duty free it's all very classy though the psychology of being put through all this isn't exactly conducive to splashing the cash. Their security system is the worst I've ever experienced. Giving them their due there is a decent logic to it and the middle manager who devised it, and no doubt put on a killer power-point presentation, probably feels he earned his bonus however it struggles with pesky variables like human beings not being robots. It's a shame because some parts are nice but those parts are the ones where they can squeeze external revenues anywhere else suffers for lack of investment.
