"things got completely out of hand"

Trip Verified | December 22, our plane left for Funchal at 11.00 am. We were at the airport at 08.15 and that's when the chaos started. Check-in went normally, but during the safety check it went completely wrong. Two control lines were open while 6 or 8 are available. A conservative estimate was that there were about 4 to 500 people waiting in line and the checks were of course far from sufficient to get all those passengers checked in time. As a result, it was first cautiously pushing and when it became clear that flights were being missed, things got completely out of hand. Nobody took control. No one even attempted to help passengers. The police stood there with their hands in their pockets and watched. So it was pressing, pushing and jostling supported with shouting and roaring. Passengers were simply treated like cattle. It looked like a war situation. Unimaginable. And shocking.

"worst managed airport in Germany"

Not Verified | By far the worst managed airport in Germany. Airport security queue times of more than 2 hours for domestic flights, uncooperative staff who can not speak English and seem lost for clues. Would definitely not recommend.

"extremely busy due to bad queue management"

Trip Verified | By any means avoid this airport. Even during off season it’s extremely busy due to bad queue management. I was supposed to travel from the terminal A but was sent to security in B, extremely full and no air. Check in and security staff working very relaxed and slowly. Loads of staff who unable to speak German or English. Dirty toilets, closed or half empty stores, seating possibilities are limited and if you want to eat at the restaurant just forget about it, it’s impossible. No wonder why this airport lost status of international.

"Extremely unfriendly staff"

Not Verified | Definitely the worst flying experience ever. Extremely unfriendly staff at the security control. Control takes literally ages and they interact with passengers in a very rude way. I cannot understand how such an airport in the middle of Europe actually exists. Toilets very very dirty!

"waited for baggage 90 minutes!"

Trip Verified | Arrival does not work. Arrived on a Friday evening, waited for baggage 90 minutes! The entire section of the arrival hall was packed, thousands of people on all 12 belts with only one or two of them moving at a time. Apparently still under staffed or disorganized. Airport WiFi doesn’t work either. Probably best to avoid if flying with checked bags. No experience made with immigration.

"Worst airport I have ever been to"

Not Verified | Worst airport I have ever been to. Arrived 2 hours before flight and queue for security was snaking all around the airport. No airport staff were advising what was happening and when I did manage to speak to someone as I was pretty sure I was going to miss my flight they were very dismissive and said everyone was in the same situation and the flight would be delayed. It wasn’t delayed and I missed my flight. There is no prioritisation despite it taking passengers over 2 hours to reach the gates. No one seems to care or have any sense of urgency. Avoid this airport if you can.

Not Verified | Nightmare. One hour to check in, two hours to get through security, including a stampede by disgruntled passengers. Police did nothing initially to bring order. Would have missed my flight if the airline had not delayed departure.

"Public areas in terminal A were filthy"

Trip Verified | Public areas in terminal A were filthy, especially the toilets. Overflowing wastebaskets, trash on the floor, no paper towels to dry hands, Free Airport wifi is a disaster, does not work anywhere in the airport. Too warm everywhere in the airport terminal. Even Hamburg airport is better.

"lack of care for the customers"

Not Verified | I would not recommend this airport at all. Rudeness from staff and such a lack of care for the customers, they do not care about disabilities. We arrived before checking opened only to spend 1h 30mins queuing, we had tried explaining to a member of staff that one of my family members can’t que up this much because the lines had stretched for miles all across the airport only to be laughed at in your face and been told “the disrespect” and was basically told that it’s a you problem because it doesn’t affect them forcing us in a que that we already explained that we can’t que up in due to disability. Unless you’re in a wheel chair they were the only ones we saw being rushed to the front of the que despite having walking sticks or visibly disabled, absolutely disgusting service we received and was more disappointed from the way we were treated, not every disability is visible. Lack of ventilation and everyone crammed together, despite getting there before check-in opened we qued for 1h 30 mins and once we finally got through security we had about 20mins if not less to catch our flight, many people lost their flight. Once you get passed security there’s no food or drink or duty free when you get to your gate so you had walked across all of the airport hoping to get a drink when you sit down and wait for your gate to open only for nothing to be available, strange shops too like suitcase shops, designer handbags etc which is very odd to be In an airport. Passport control was extremely rude, witnessed one of the staff abusing an American for being in the wrong line using words like “lady” etc and overall being extremely disrespectful, did not make the visit to the country or airport enjoyable at all everyone is extremely rude and unprofessional. When we arrived to the airport the day prior we were seeking help to figure out where the car rental place and the staff there at the desk was very held back and not willing to help, such an attitude from staff it’s disgusting. If you’re looking for a nice breakaway do not choose Düsteldorf or it’s airport. Toilets have nowhere for you to dry your hands either and limited to about 8 cubicles but only 3 available.

"it is always a bad experience"

Not Verified | I can only consent to many of the other reviews of DUS. I have been flying to/from this airport on a weekly basis for several years and it is always a bad experience. Extremely rude personnel - today I asked for the priority lane as the security queue was enormous just to be told that “we don’t have priority lane”. Not surprised actually as the priority lane earlier was never working. Instead be of overflowing from priority to the regular queue, in DUS they overflow from regular queue to priority. Eventually, we found the priority lane just to experience that it was actually longer than the regular. The employees doesn’t seem to care and have no sense of urgency or nor any sense of grating a customer. In Security the employees are more interested in discussing what happened last weekend than working.
