"wish I had chosen Beziers"
Paul Weaver (United Kingdom)
Not Verified | Through a lack of concentration and waiting to board at the wrong gate I missed my flight to London Stansted. I returned escorted to the checking in counter to get another ticket for the following day. The agent who was available and did place order for the ticket said rather acerbically that it was important to concentrate when going through departure. This is self evident and I resent the comment made as everybody lacks concentration at times and mistakes are made On departing the airport for an overnight hotel stay near the airport I was told the printed boarding pass would be issued the following day, which he then repeated for confirmation. On arrival at the airport I saw the same agent who asked if I had my boarding pass? Now who is lacking in concentration! Another agent I spoke to and who did hand me the boarding pass was courteous and very understanding of my situation and if the other agent was of a similar nature and character I would have given Airport staff 5 stars. On departing Narbonne I had a choice of 2 airports Carcassonne or Beziers. On reflection I wish I had chosen Beziers.

"excessive scanning of bag"
Paul Weaver (United Kingdom)
Not Verified | I understand that scanning both luggage and the person travelling is essential at all airports for the safety of all who fly. At a recent departure at Carcassonne airport my bag was cleared through the scanner and showed no items of dangerous content and the all clear given. The bag was then scanned with a hand scanner and opened, items were removed and a hand search made showing the bag again to be clear. At all other airports once the bag has been cleared by a full scanner and the all clear given you are then able to proceed to pick up. When passing through the full body scanner the all clear was given, but I was then given a hand scanner search although no beeps or signs on a screen would have indicated reason for the hand scan. After 55 years of flying this rather excessive scanning of bag and person has only happened at Carcassonne airport Of course acute, precautious judicious procedures have to be made but sometimes they become excessive bordering on paranoia.

“very poor quality airport”
Annabel Carter (United Kingdom)
Not Verified | A very poor quality airport. No ventilation or air conditioning so it’s always hot. Very few wcs so there’s always a long queue and apart from a very small outside cafe which is good the catering is abysmal. The seating areas at the gates are basic and too crowded.

"they have forgotten the basics"
Val Colbridge (United Kingdom)
Not Verified | After spending so much money on the new airport they have forgotten the basics. When you arrive , there are only two toilets, one male, one female, in the main corridor. There are no trolleys for those of us with luggage. The car rental office is over the other side of a busy road. The lift to get us to the underground tunnel and up the other side wasn’t working so we had to cross the very busy road with our suitcases and no trolley. The guy in the rental office shrugged his shoulders when I complained about this. The same happened on the way back and there were still no trolleys at all. What a shambles.

"There were no taxis at the airport"
E Lewis (United Kingdom)
✅ Trip Verified | There were no taxis at the airport as our plane, the last of the day, landed at four in the afternoon. I mean, none. I found a card for a taxi company, rang them, to be told it would be at least an hour and my best bet would be to take the shuttle. The shuttle arrived about half an hour later, just one bus and it seemed at least half the flight needed to get on. People were crushed standing in the aisle. The nearest drop off for our hotel was quite a distance for two elderly ladies to drag their suitcases. So, if you are flying to Carcassonne, I recommend that you book transport online from your own country beforehand.

"lack of facilities"
G Duffy (Ireland)
Not Verified | Fine for landing as you get through quickly but lack of facilities, seating shops bar means come with your own food n drink. You can’t buy a beer unless you buy food in the small café before security. There is only a soft drinks vending machine after security. No duty free, and the free airport’s wifi it’s like cracking the enigma code or such to register - time wasting for sure. Okay not many flights in or out but cater for passengers, most seats are outside exposed to the elements.

"the worst airport I've ever used"
G Johnny (Ireland)
✅ Trip Verified | This is the worst airport I've ever used. It is so small and there is only one shop. They won't let you buy a beer if you're not having something to eat. There is no shopping other than a tiny shop which is worse than a small corner shop. Staff aren't even friendly. Security is so incredibly slow. I've been far and wide and this is the worst I've ever experienced.

"a chaotic nightmare"
Sheila Deegan (Ireland)
✅ Trip Verified | We were waiting, on arrival, (on 1 December, on Ryanair flight from Dublin) outside, in very cold weather for about an hour for passport control. We were also "herded" like animals on departure. Returning my hired car was a nightmare, confusing signage meant several passengers didn't know where to leave the car, or where the hire office was. The experience was a good sample of how not to treat people. We pay for service at the airport in our ticket price, but in my view, we should not just get a refund, but be compensated for distress. A chaotic nightmare.

"had to walk a virtual marathon"
Karen Findlay (United Kingdom)
❎ Not Verified |
I flew to Carcassonne from Glasgow with Ryanair just when they were having all their major problems about cancellations. Fortunately my flight was pretty much on time with only one drunk man aboard. The flight was pretty standard for Ryanair and was plesent enough. When we landed, we all had to walk a virtual marathon to get to the arrivals hall in the 35 degree heat. Then once we finally made it there we had to wait over an hour in a stuffy baggage hall before our luggage arrived. The next problem I faced was at the car hire depot. I had to wait over half an hour before someone turned up at the desk. A week later when I'm heading home is where the worst part happened. Even though it was only early afternoon half my flight back to Glasgow seemed to be heavily intoxicated and sitting in a tiny departures lounge with only one cafe was quite possibly the worst experience of my life. When I got on the plane we didn't take off for another hour because the cabin crew couldn't get the door shut. The 2 and a half hour flight home was possibly the longest few hours of my life due to the noise and commotion from the drunks. The only thing I got out this holiday was to never fly Ryanair again

"failed to embrace the 21st century"
Robin Marshall (France)
Carcassonne airport is about the best example of how France has failed to embrace the 21st century. If ever they wanted to give themselves a funny name a la John Lennon airport, then they should called themselves Clochemerle. The airport is essentially a shack with a runway - as everyone points out in reviews here, the staff are very friendly but friendliness does not overcome crass inefficiency. Ryanair now market "Business Class +" and take money for the "service" but it does not work here. With two flights departing about an hour apart, the baggage drop desk could not cope and the paid for "Fast track" service which is printed on the check in voucher evaporated. It took 40 minutes standing in a crawling queue just to drop off baggage. My advice to anyone wishing to avoid standing in line is to delay baggage drop until they start shouting for passengers for your flight and then you can jump to the head of the queue from the seat where you have been biding your time. For reasons best known to the airport and Ryanair, the return plane parked as far away from the arrivals hut as was possible and passengers were made to walk the length of the runway in the blazing afternoon heat. Mercifully the torrential rain that France endured that week had passed. There is one carousel to serve all incoming flights although to be fair, there are aren't that many. But the carousel holds about 20 bags so they rely of people getting their bags off the belt in order to put more on. The advantage then is that being only a shack, it is very quick to get out. Now we come to the free wi-fi service. I tried to set this up whilst waiting in the bag-drop queue but after 40 minutes gave up until inspiration struck. You have to register with your name and email. But when you try to continue it insists you must accept their terms or conditions by ticking a box which does not seem visible. Finally I tried clicking the box which said I would accept spam emails from them and this worked. Overall, if you want a taste of Clochemerle, this is your airport.
