Landed at 21.15 on Sunday 22nd March 2015 from Sharm El Sheikh. Disembarked aircraft at 21.50. Reason for delay was that the wrong set of steps had been sent to the aircraft. Had to wait for replacement steps to be found. Not good enough Birmingham (especially if you have plans to expand). Why we weren't put on a jetty I don't know. Most of them were empty.

It really puzzles me why how this airport can so consistently get departures right and yet consistently make arrivals such a nightmare. I've rarely queued for check in or security which is so much better these days. The departure lounge is reasonable with plenty of choice for a relatively small airport. What annoys without fail is their arrivals handling. Maybe it's because there is less opportunity for financial gain from arriving passengers (although their charges for baggage trolleys might suggest otherwise). I've never found immigration anything but busy that is on a good day. On a bad day the place is heaving with passengers queuing up the stairs to the gate concourse. Problems are caused when passengers use the lift to reach immigration leaving them with no option but to push into the queue. One might assume that after the time taken to clear immigration at least your bags would be merrily enjoying their carousel ride. Rarely is this the case. Why is this airport so slow at getting bags to belt? Sure every airport has occasional delays but Birmingham seems to have nothing but delays when it comes to the arrival experience. Odd as you'd think the airport would want the passengers last memory of the airport to be a good one obviously they don't otherwise they would resolve the issues. The airport seems to be hell bent on expanding but seem to be unable to cope with the arrivals they already have.

Flew in last night (Feb 16th 2015) on Monarch ZB935 from Tenerife and had to wait over 45 minutes for bags to appear. Of the last ten times I have come through this airport only once have the bags arrived in a reasonable time and on a par with the many other airports I have used. I also find the mean mindedness of not having a free drop off area very irritating. In other ways the airport is pretty good but the baggage handling needs urgent attention. If it were not so close to home I would try other airports.

On a par with Manchester in fact slightly better. Queues minimal facilities more than acceptable Terminal one is spacious and easy to navigate. The free shuttle to the train station is splendid although there are no buses or trains that serve this airport from the city centre round the clock. A solid 9 out of 10 for me.

We arrived back into BHX at 18.15 Friday 2nd January on a Monarch flight we went through border control very quickly as there were a number of officers on duty. However the wait for our cases was pathetic the first case came onto the carousel at 19.05 we got our cases at 19.12 what a very poor effort from an Airport that is constantly hyping up itself about expansion and being an alternative to London. We live aprox. 17 miles from BHX and travel through there regularly. It's time they get a grip of what the travelling public want.

Good airport and security was a breeze however my flight to Dublin was delayed because 2 Ryanair flights one from Ibiza and one from Lanzarote landed at the gate beside us and because the swing door was opened to the passport control area arriving and departing passengers from the Ryanair flight to Dublin were made to wait around half an hour packed into the airbridge like sardines and staff would not let the passengers into the airport until all the passengers from Spain cleared passport control so the ground staff could shift the door into the direction of domestic arrivals. If Birmingham airport are operating Common Travel Area flights they should have a dedicated arrivals hall for this purpose or at least some sort of partition separating domestic passengers from international passengers instead of a flimsy swing door.

We travel regularly from this airport due to its proximity to home. The staff are consistently rude and unhelpful. It has fantastic transport links and ought to be the site for London's third airport but while it continues to provide some of the worst staff I have ever come across there is no chance. I am ashamed to be British when I see their treatment of passengers. Do the owners not wish to improve the place? Go and visit any other world airport and see what good service and helpful staff can do.

This airport can not handle the large number of passengers for Emirates and other busy flights and is a disgrace Thursday the 13th Nov it took us an hour just to walk up the ramp to reach the security desks. We just made it to the gate on time and there were still 40 passengers waiting to clear the security queue at the time of departure. The management if there is one need to visit Dubai to see a proper airport functioning. The duty free/food outlets at Birmingham are wasting their time being there at peak times as there is no time to use them Emirates should give up on this third rate airport.

BHX-CDG-BHX. Another excellent experience of Birmingham Airport for this short hop to Paris. Checked in online and got dropped off at Birmingham Int'l railway station (to avoid the short stay parking charges) and was through security in about 20 minutes which included having my bag searched. Had a delicious lunch in one of the restaurants and still had time to have a browse around the many shops. Air France ground crew were efficient loading the plane and we were away on time. The return was even less eventful. Off the plane and through immigration within 10 minutes (using the automated passport gates). I didn't have any hold luggage so I was on the small train back to the railway station within 15 minutes of getting off the plane. A great airport which does everything I need it to.

I travel from this airport a lot and it amazes me how moody and aggressive airport staff are and on arriving at there is always a longer than usual wait to vacate the plane a wait for stairs or buses to arrive and a massive wait for luggage. Its not a nice experience flying into or from Birmingham.
