Belgrade Airport

Belgrade is now a busy transit airport in South Eastern Europe. The change has been massive for the last couple of years especially since the start of operations of Air Serbia. The airport is clean functional and rather well organized. The obvious downsides would be: lack of a smoking room (especially for transit passengers people smoking in the toilets) absence of a post-office that was closed some years ago the rude security personnel at the gates and the ventilation or a/c not working properly - it easily gets too hot within the gates and air-side of the terminal. Besides that it is a very good airport to travel to/from.

Nice and clean airport. Efficient. Changed rapidly last couple of years. Lot of new things added and opened. For sure best airport in this part of Europe.

After a cancelled flight on Christmas eve which was only announced after 90 mins of delay without any in-between info - we were left stranded in the transit area for the night. Requests for a food voucher or a transit visa were treated with a shrug and a no. They only address you in Serbian and if you answer in English they continue in Serbian. The words 'Please' or 'Thank you' are missing from their vocabulary. It appears that the Air Serbia and Belgrade airport police are trying to show each other who is the boss all to the detriment of passengers. My advice: avoid.

BEG has changed a lot in the last couple of years. Check-in highly efficient security checks expeditious. Staff professional and courteous even friendly. The airport looks clean and spacious. Same on arrival luggage arriving quickly. For transportation to the city go to the departures floor for the bus 72. The only serious objection would be the absence of a smoking room and more recently of a post office (that was closed for unknown reasons). I would gladly use BEG again.

The airport is very improved in comparison to last time. Last time I there was August 2012 and now in January 2013. It can be said that the airport has a modern look. Certain parts of the airport are still under construction but it works perfectly.

At arrival passport control and luggage delivery doesn't take longer than 10-15 minutes. Compact airport with easy to follow signage and layout. At departure level check in counters well staffed and provide quick and efficient service. Duty free shops are to be avoided since liquor and cosmetics items cost more than in city stores. A1 to A6 gates recently renewed and look very bright and modern. New reconstructed Business lounge is very spacious and provides a good selection of local / import beverages and a well stocked hot buffet is a nice touch. The transit area needs improvement and relocation since it is hidden away from general terminal traffic. Overall good improvements made; the current facility looks much brighter and better than what it 4-5 years ago!

Clean and well-organised airport though the definitive downside being the excessive security measures. For a frequent traveller only at BEG do I have things confiscated almost every time I fly with not one of the agents or airport staff willing to find a solution. Last time I had 2kg of honey thrown away as it was considered as a dangerous substance by security staff. Just because of those attitudes and the hefty passenger taxes (20 EUR per ticket) I'll avoid flying out of Belgrade in the future.

The airport check-in has greatly improved and the process is quick. The airport does need new restrooms in arrival area. This is not a luxury airport it is simple and basic. Taxis try to take advantage of travelers in all airports so upon arrival just call for a taxi to meet you outside.

Arrived from Luton. Long queue at immigration and a long wait for luggage to arrive. Had plenty of time to browse the leaflets at the tourist information desk while waiting. In order to get to the city centre I took public bus number 72 which leaves from the upper level of the terminal and only costs 120 Din.

Flight cancelled due to technical problem employees barely helped customer service wasn't good. It was +40 outside and the air conditioner did not work in the airport. I went in search of a bottle of water and walked for mile across the airport but all stores were closed and there were no facilities around. Facilities and shops are poor for a long wait.
