"sub-optimal resource allocation"
H Simmons (Switzerland)
✅ Trip Verified | Multiple flights arrive by at the same time, possibly due to delays but due to the ‘temporary’ suspension of normal Schengen rules at BSL, along with some sub-optimal resource allocation amongst the border control guards, it resulted a wait at passport control in the region of 60 minutes - off a Schengen flight from Amsterdam! It might have been more bearable if we hadn’t been forced to witness other flights occasionally utilising the, empty and underworked, other half of the Passport Control area (which we couldn’t access), to sail quickly through to baggage claim. To then end the hour long wait by witnessing my passport being given only the most cursory glance by the guy in the booth, only served to re-enforce my skepticism as to the real necessity of these ‘temporary’ (surely it can’t be long before they exceed what is permitted?) measures! A thoroughly poor way to ‘come home’ for me and many others, after what had been a fantastic weekend away, and and an awful image for Basel to present to all the business people and tourists that were coming in on the various affected flights. Basel and the surrounding areas are a fantastic place to live and work, but today it felt like arriving at a living cliche of a stereotypical ‘third world’ immigration control. I think, at the moment, I would advise friends coming to visit, that they should fly to Zurich and get the train over to Basel.

"So much for SWISS efficiency"
Anthony Price (France)
✅ Trip Verified | What has happened to Basel airport? It used to be one of the most convenient and simple airports to arrive at. Now, for several months there have been huge queues at passport control when two or three flights arrive simultaneously, which is fairly often. There are 6 booths available but never more than 3 are open. So much for SWISS efficiency.

"unacceptable and a disgrace"
M Brooks (Croatia)
✅ Trip Verified | One of the worst airport experiences ever. Part of the problem was easyJet with only one counter working for baggage drop off for quite a while (everyone takes a break at the same time apparently, according to the supervisor who was directing people). But after that fiasco we had a 30 minute wait for security (they finally opened a second pair of lanes after we had been in line for 20 minutes but they had eight tracks available so 75% were closed when we got in line and then 50% at the end) and then another 30 minute wait for passport control (only four booths though all were staffed) though it looks like they're renovating the area. Absolutely unacceptable and a disgrace, especially given the Swiss reputation for efficiency. Can't review any airport services (food, lounges, etc. Because we spent all of our 2.5 hours there in line.

"most inconvenient airport"
Martin Smidek (Switzerland)
✅ Trip Verified | Basel Mulhouse Airport is upon arrival probably one of the most inconvenient airport in Europe, specially as it is becoming a hub airport for easyjet and Wizz Air and lots of flights arriving in bundles. On the 13.6.2018 around 1:20 arrival, 45min plus waiting time at immigration is not acceptable at all, even France is Schengen all flights from Schengen have to go through Passport Control. 7-8 Flights arriving means 800 plus people queueing in narrow, unventilated long corridors. I avoid and fly via Zurich into Switzerland

"30 minutes at passport control"
Urs Rutschmann (Switzerland)
Not Verified | Waiting for 30 minutes at passport control. Families, elderly, everybody stands in a hot room. Only a few checkpoints are open. Big frustration. No special counter for schengen citizens.

"airport is far from any Swiss standards"
C Francis (Switzerland)
✅ Trip Verified | Small airport with easy access and short transit times. However, the staff working there are a reason to avoid this airport. In general, arrogant behaviour typical of the French staff working there (well known in the region). Very seldom somebody will speak something else than French. They do lot know that people traveling are basically their customers. Very clearly this airport is far from any Swiss standards.

"Very efficient"
Lily Lim (Australia)
✅ Verified Review | This airport is a little far if you are coming from Zurich. They said they are a small airport but it didn't look small to me. The check-in staff were courteous and efficient. While clearing the first round of security (scanning bags and travellers), the staff opened up more lanes when they queue got too long. Very efficient! Food and beverages are very pricey in the terminal. I did not speak their language and the counter staff made an ugly face. If you are buying drinks, cheaper to buy from vending machines located near the gates. Be warned that you will need to clear passport control nearer the gates. And if you are a non-holder of a European passport, be prepared for a longer time to clear this round of security. As with all passport clearance officers in most airports, they are rude people. Overall, pleasant experience at this airport.

"Everything is clean and well taken care of"
21 reviews Bento Martins (Portugal)
✅ Verified Review | Small but modern airport. Everything is clean and well taken care of and it is easy to get around. Staff are friendly and you never have to wait a long time to do the check in or go through security. Enough shops to satisfy your needs but I could use a bit more of restaurants and coffees. Waiting rooms are spacious and with enough seating and also with plenty of electric sockets to charge your devices. Wifi is decent.

"a good impression"
Guy Senior (United Kingdom)
I tried Basel Airport recently as an alternative to Geneva which can be very crowded during the ski and motor show season. On arrival, I was through immigration and bag collection within 30 minutes. On departure, check in and security took about 10 minutes. Overall, a good impression. The only downside, is that it is necessary to get a bus to Basel train station, but this is very frequent and free if you stay in Basel the night before or have an appropriate train ticket.

"not expanded to accommodate additional passengers"
R Francis (France)
✅ Verified Review | I use Basel Mulhouse airport at least once per month, on average every other week. I appreciate that it is "compact" meaning it takes very little time to go to a gate. The "compactness" means also that there is not enough seating. This is becoming a major issue. Compactness means also that there are only 3 cafes in the departure area, with few seats. The business lounge is great, food is ok, never crowded. The pick-up and drop-off french side, are again being re-organised. It is a mess, where taxi and private vehicles fight for the same areas. Parking has just been extended with a new multi-storey. There are companies offering remote parking too. There are 3 security check zones, what most people do not know, is that they are interconnected therefore you can use any of the zones, irrelevant which airline you are flying with, or which gates you will go to. This is not sign posted, and there is no queue management. Frequents users visually check the queues before going to security. The passport control flying out is too small for the number of passengers. It was recently improved for passengers coming in. Finding a place where to plug in chargers is difficult. It is a small airport, therefore only 3 shops. WIFI is free for a short period. The web portal to connect does not work very well with Gmail or Facebook login. The airport has 2 entrances, and two exist as it sit on the border between France and Switzerland. It is not made clear to passengers that since both countries are in the Schengen zone, they can freely walk from one side to the other. This airport has grown very fast in the last few years, but the building have not expanded to accommodate the additional passengers. Something needs to happen soon.
