"passport control takes for ages"

(Portugal)

Trip Verified | Everything is done in a very old fashioned way, two security checks, passport control takes for ages, the terminal is new but they don't have lockers. I saw a cabin crew member litting a cigarette inside the airport. There are three stores where you can buy your Algerian SIM card with internet. Beware it is not possible to change Algerian dinars back to Euros. Don't accept transport from young men at arrivals, to the center or your hotel. You'll regret it.

"An old airport with grumpy staff"

(Brazil)

Trip Verified | An old airport with grumpy staff and non sense shopping experience. Visiting Algeria for the first time I was expecting chaos. Somehow the staff pulls things around but seem cold and unwilling to do their jobs, they confiscate local cash and overdo security, I had to clear x-ray machines like 3 times before actually boarding the flight. Local food is served cold and like in many airports overpriced. Make sure you arrive early. Immigration is quick.

"so big with a modern design"

(Algeria)

Not Verified | The Algiers airport terminal 2 was not so good because they don't have many shops or restaurants, the toilet was not clean and design of the building was not good. But the new Algiers airport terminal 3 was so big with a modern design and the second name of this terminal is 'the door of Africa', that means it connects Africa with the world, terminal 3 has so many shops or restaurants and it was comfortable in the vip lounge.

"staff very helpful"

(Spain)

Verified Review | Algiers airport transit from Spain to Qatar. Despite the Algeria embassy in Madrid telling us that a transit visa wasn't mandatory I recommend you to take it with you. There isn't an special way for transits. You must cross the passport control to enter Algeria and another passport control to go to your departure gate. It`s a quite slow process(30 min+). Also 3 security scans. The airport is small with a very interesting mix of cultures. The restaurants only accept cash in local currency (there is a bank in the terminal). Airport staff very helpful. Very dirty WC. New terminal under construction.

"an ordinary airport"

(United Kingdom)

Arrival from London was fine but the immigration hall was packed and it took a bit of time to get through. Baggage claim is always a nightmare at Houari Boumidienne airport (Algiers) because everyone has so many huge bags and the system isn't very efficient. Connections to the city are ok but we got a taxi. On the way back, check in had a very long line. But since we had online check-in, they allowed to go into Club Europe's queue though the way the agents work so lethargically, it wasn't much quicker. Immigration was smoother than on arrival. Security was separated by gender which annoyed some less conservative Algerians. I have to say we got the timing spot on as we were able to buy some Algerian wine and after a few minutes, we were boarding. But then, there is more security after the boarding gate which slows everything down as the X-ray kept breaking. What I personally don't like about Algiers airport is that there is so much "security" when in fact, the officers behind the screen are just chatting and laughing, barely looking at the screen. Overall, it is an ordinary airport with nothing particularly good but not bad either.

"airport is huge and clean"

(Kuwait)

Algiers airport is huge and clean but I did not enjoy the business class lounge it was extremely poor compared to other countries. I had to go outside the lounge to use the toilet they served very poor quality food. As a Muslim country I also expected to a mosque for prayers but there was no specialized area. Shopping in the airport was ok.

"nice spacious clean"

(France)

Good airport international terminal T1 is nice spacious clean. The only problem I see is the fact that the interdiction of smoking is not always respected.

"staff is friendly"

(Italy)

For departures Algiers new airport is fairly spacious functional and the staff is friendly. I might have been lucky but I found the police controls and security to go fairly quickly. Shops are limited but I found them sufficient also they are open very early and close late. The choice of restaurants is limited to 1 for each hall and they are of the same provider. They offer reasonable selections of light eating and drinking. On arrivals I find it inadequate to have to walk down stairs after coming off the plane. I did not see an elevator available. The wait for the luggage is too long. I was told it was due to the luggage scanner being undersized for the traffic. One important deficiency is the absence of English signs; they are all in French and Arabic only. A shame for a brand new "International" airport. Over all I was satisfied mainly due to efficiency at departure and the feeling of space which is lacking too often in aging European airports.

"stench of smoke everywhere"

(United Kingdom)

The airport building in itself is fairly attractive and spacious. However it is spoilt by 3 things - stench of smoke everywhere. Algeria is 30 years behind when it comes to smoking restrictions. Long waits and bureaucratic procedures. These are the fault of the authorities. Stood in line for 40 minutes to get through immigration. Out of stock duty-free shop. OK if you want to buy Baileys but not much else.
