"good value for money and customer care"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | I have flown WestJet many times, both on short haul flights within Canada and also between Canada and the UK. On all of the flights I have had with WestJet, I’ve had a great experience, with good value for money and customer care through the booking processes, airport processes and flight processes. I also find the cabin product aboard the 787 to be of a very good standard and I am happy the airline plans to expand its fleet with this aircraft type, I look forward to flying WestJet again and would recommend the airline to anyone.

" mediocre at best"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Victoria to Calgary. This is my second time flying it with WestJet and I can only describe my experience as mediocre at best . Every time I take this plane I am always placed in the back next to the toilet . I have confirmed my flight within the stipulated time hence, I should be able to get a better seat. There are many empty seats therefore there was no need to place us in the very back of the plane. Attendants are quite rude.

"worst trip ever"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Orlando to Québec via Toronto. First time with this airline compagnie, worst trip ever. They just don’t care about their customers. Flight delay and miss connection so add 12 hours before I can fly back home and they pay nothing.

"provided excellent service"

(France)

Trip Verified | Montreal to Gatwick via Torontoon a Plus ticket. This airline provided excellent service throughout my trip. In Montreal I arrived at the airport very early for my flight as I had a sudden change of schedule (I was leaving a day earlier than expected) and had to check out of my hotel many hours before my scheduled flight. Changing my flight was simple online and done in a matter of minutes. The check-in agent in Montreal proactively put me on an earlier flight. This was such a help as there are no lounges for me to use in Montreal but there are in Toronto which would be much more comfortable for a long layover. WestJet has no lounge access for PLUS passengers but I overheard some pax saying that they receive a discount on some lounges by showing their boarding pass. The service on the domestic flight was efficient. Beverages and a small snack were offered. Boarding in Toronto was excellent. Although there were lines at the desk, I simply walked to the ‘Zone 1’ side of the line and was boarded immediately. I was immediately impressed by the smart and professional presentation of the crew. I was offered a choice between Prosecco and orange juice and my jacket was hung. The aircraft is old (first registered in 1984) but incredibly well presented. The PLUS seats are cradle style business class seats but were comfortable. The power sockets were not working at my seat, but the crew took my device and charged it in the galley, returning it later in the flight. Good service recovery although it meant I could not watch any IFE which was disappointing. IFE is only available via the WestJet app through your own device. The flight attendant working my side of the cabin introduced herself soon after I boarded and made sure I knew how to contact her throughout the flight. High quality blankets were provided, and a cushion was on the seat. An equally high quality-print menu and separate wine list were distributed. The on-board food service was excellent. The WestJet crew constantly walked the cabin to check that passengers were happy. I wanted to sleep as soon as possible and so declined a main course. I requested the cheese and crackers with a glass of wine. I was expecting to receive a small piece of wrapped cheese and a cracker with a ¼ bottle of wine. I was incredibly surprised and impressed to receive a ‘bistro box’ with a selection of cheeses and crackers followed by a full-bottle wine service. This was presented on the full meal tray which allowed me to be tempted by the excellent dessert and a salad bowl (presented in a stunning pewter-style bowl). The crew knew their wines well (even commented on the reviews of the individual wines) and prompted me to taste the wine prior to pouring. Nice touch. Quality glassware is used and good quality silverware. After the meal the crew came to say goodnight and reminded passengers that a help-yourself snack bar was available in the galley. Breakfast was equally nice with coffee being served in full mugs. My only criticisms would be: 1) There should have been one more person working the front cabin during meal service as it was very slow (aprox 40 mins from the time 1A was served until i was served in 4H). It was clear that each setup tray was being prepared individually and then bought to the passenger - which took time. 2) Baggage delivery in LGW was slow.

"do not appreciate their guests"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Vancouver to Kelowna. I made the mistake of choosing west jet because it seemed to be the cheapest and now I understand why. I had a later flight than I required and noticed multiple unfilled flights leaving before mine. I inquired with WestJet staff to see if possible I were able to get on an earlier flight. I did purchase an economy ticket where changes are not allowed but thought it won’t hurt to ask. Not only were the staff rude when I asked but actually sang “you get what you pay for” as I turned to walk away. Rude and do not appreciate their guests.

"in flight service perfect"

(United Kingdom)

Not Verified | Gatwick to Edmonton via Calgary. I had expected The Canadian version of Ryanair, pay for bags etc. and did not expect complimentary food/drink. I was surprised, staff excellent, in flight service perfect, nothing not to like. I rate them as highly as Air India, or SriLanka Airlines, who are both top notch with economy passengers. I just wish they could fly Edmonton direct, and that the new owners do not spoil a winning formula. Cant give seat comfort a high score, because an economy seat, is an economy seat, regardless of what aircraft or airline.

"cancelled due to a lack of crew"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | My partner and I were waiting on a return flight from Toronto via Vancouver airport to Victoria. About ten minutes prior to our boarding time, the gate desk made an announcement that the flight was cancelled due to a lack of crew and that there was no available flight till 9am the next day (over 15 hours away). The airline employees said to our whole plane that we could either choose to stay till the flight the next day or catch the next ferry to the island, for which the airline would pay for because they were at fault (they said keep receipts and call into the 1-800 number). We chose the ferry as it was the best option to make it to work the following day. The following day (May 15) we contacted WestJet to get a refund on the cancelled flight but were told that connecting flights like those to the island do not count as flights and therefore “there is no true value left to refund” despite the Van.-Vic. flight being listed at over 100$ on their website even if booked in advance. We’ve tried talking to Westjet several times but their last email waived all responsibility for the cancellation saying: “This is why we suggest guests purchase travel insurance, you are completely covered in the event something goes wrong. If you did not purchase travel insurance, we recommend contacting the number on the back of your credit card. Travel protection is often included in credit card plans. We do not want this to come across as uncaring, we simply would like our guests to be prepared for delays and always be ready for unexpected costs.”
