"no longer my carrier of choice"

(Canada)

Not Verified | Comox to Grande Prairie via Calgary. Used to fly WestJet exclusively until their prices started going up and changing flight times making it very hard to to make it back to work in Alberta. My wife recently flew to Kamloops, the return flight was cancelled due to mechanical problems. She was unable to get out that day, rather than offer her accommodation till the next day, my wife was forced to haggle with them until they relented. They have been sliding down hill for some time now and are no longer my carrier of choice.

"would not do anything to help my wife and I"

(Canada)

Not Verified | Our flight from Hong Kong to Vancouver (Air Canada) was delayed due to the protests by over 4 hours. Our connection from Vancouver to Calgary (WestJet) would be missed. I contacted WestJet while in Hong Kong to explain the situation and they basically said "tough luck" and would not do anything to help my wife and I out. Nothing and customer service was quite rude. Needless to say we had to pay full fare for the next flight out once in Vancouver. Would I fly with WestJet again? Not if I can help it.

"flight to Montreal was cancelled"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Had a layover in Toronto and the connecting flight to Montreal was cancelled. WestJet wouldn't say why, other than crew issue. Should have landed in Montreal at 10.30 and instead got rebooked several flights later for a 14.30 arrival. Supposed to drive to Quebec city from Montreal with others, so enquired about a flight to there instead. WestJet said no. The next flight to Montreal also just got cancelled. Happy holidays to us! Again enquired about going to Quebec instead (seats are available, and we now wouldn't get to Montreal till 16.30 now) but according to WestJet, it's too hard to retag bags for a different destination! I can only hope that when they need something, they get treated the same way.

"will avoid traveling with them if possible"

(Canada)

Not Verified | My flight was delayed by 2 hours (with no reason for the delay) which caused me to miss a connecting flight. I ended up in a different city for my transfer, and arrived to my destination (for a vacation) almost 8 hours later than expected. Once I arrived finally, my luggage was not on the plane with me, and on another plane to only arrive the day (so no luggage for the 1st day of my vacation) they did give me food vouchers (30$ worth) to eat at the airport while I now waited during a 5 hour unexpected layover. I will avoid traveling with WestJet Airlines if possible, as their customer service (at the airport, and on the phone with the baggage claim service rep) was awful!

"not be using them again"

(United States)

Not Verified | Used WestJet for the first time on a round-trip flight from Portland, Oregon to Toronto, Canada. on the way to Toronto, our flight was late and caused us to miss our connection in Calgary and made us arrive at our hotel at 1:30 a.m. which pretty much ruined our first day of vacation. On our return trip to Portland, our flight from Toronto to Calgary was delayed yet again for unknown reasons. This caused us to again miss our connection and have to fly to Las Vegas and then Portland, causing a 10 hour delay! I will not be using them again.

"not be flying with them again"

(Canada)

Not Verified | I flew from Winnipeg to Saskatoon, via Calgary. My connecting flight was late. I have flown 6 times in 2 years with WestJet. Of those 6 times, 3 flights were late. I spoke with a rep, and suggested some sort of compensation, she flat out refused to even discuss it. I will not be flying with them again.

"wait for the next WestJet flight"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Ft St John to Kamloops via Calgary. Just the facts. I flew this route with WestJet last month which resulted in a 9 hour delay to my destination. Today, same route. Same 9 hour delay in Calgary. The initial delay was for unknown reasons that caused me to miss my connection in Calgary. The next available flight from Calgary is 9 hours later. I asked WestJet to credit the unused portion (Calgary to Kamloops) To allow me to purchase a ticket on the next Air Canada flight so I could get home 5 hours earlier. I was told that since travel on that booking has already begun, there would be no credit on any portion of the reservation and my only course of action was to wait 9 hours for the next WestJet flight. I paid $425 for an Air Canada ticket and WestJet lost another customer. Since I fly this route often, I have cancelled all of my future travel via WestJet as well. Too bad. A little common sense from customer service would go a long way to correcting the situation.

"It is really unfair to me"

(United States)

Trip Verified | On 8/9/19 the day of my flight from New York to Toronto to Vancouver, Westjest sent me an email just before I left my house to go the Airport canceling my 6:05am flight and placing me on flight 8/10/19 at 2pm. I had to argue with the agent, letting them know that I was going to miss my niece’s wedding and 1 day of paid stay at the hotel I reserved in advance. This hotel wouldn’t have reimbursed me. One of the agents was nice and another one was rude who told me, “it is life”. The rude one said, “Call your credit card to see if there’s any insurance to help you”. Finally the nice agent found me a flight. That flight was suppose to leave at 2:45pm to Toronto and 6:00pm from Toronto to Vancouver, but the plane left New York at 4:10 pm. This delay caused me to miss my connecting flight from Toronto to Vancouver Now I am now waiting for another four hours to catch the next available flight at 10:15 PM. It is really unfair to me. No one should take this airline. I still don’t know if Westjet will leave at 10:15 PM.

"worst possible Delta employee"

(United States)

Not Verified | Check in was fine I did that online. I get to the airport, flight is on a very busy Delta only terminal (later learned it was a codeshare on WestJet, but ground operations by Delta) asked for assistance about the gate as there was zero signage to even indicate WestJet. I dealt with the worst possible Delta employee who said to me (and I quote) "Do I look like a West Jet Employee" just by me asking if I was at the right gate. The employee turned out to be horrible. Delta addressed their issues in it. They made it right. I sent notes to WestJet about the way they were being handled on ground at LAX, they refused to do anything. They refused to do any more than "can" and "auto responses" about a very detailed report. The first "can" response they sent was not even about the issue at hand. They sent an automatic "apology" about a problem that was not even mentioned. In the air, employees were not friendly to me. The seat was uncomfortable. First flight with WestJet, and is my last flight with WestJet. When you cannot even address customer concerns in a thoughtful honest email with courtesy and politeness but can only send out an "automatic" / "can" message that is not even about your issue should show you that they do not even read the concerns raised by passengers. I booked them just entirely about the time of the flight. The cost was the same as Air Canada.

"never book this airline again"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Very disappointed with the succession of delays faced by my mother in law and and 11 year old daughter amounting to about 7 hour delay on a round trip on a round trip Toronto to Boston. Not acceptable and they were exhausted upon return to Toronto after what should have been a roughly 2 hour flight from Boston. After experiencing 3 successive delays on their trip from to Boston. they subsequently experienced 4 delays on their return home to Toronto. Arriving at the Boston airport at 4:45 for a 7pm flight that ultimately did not take off until 11pm. Is this the norm when flying WestJet? How on earth can one make any plans at all for pick up, etc? No response to my emailed complaint to Westjet. Will never book this airline again.
