"no wheelchairs were at the gate"

(Canada)

Not Verified | We booked with wheelchair assistance requested. In Toronto, it was difficult to find where we had to go and did not find much assistance when we asked. Once we found it, staff were very good. When we arrived in Tampa there were no wheelchairs at the gate and none came for over 30 minutes. Before they came we were told we had to walk up and off the ramp. This was extremely difficult for my wife. Coming home, I upgraded to business class. We again, at Tampa, had great difficulty finding and getting wheelchair service, but once we got it the staff were very good. Upon arrival in Toronto, again, no wheelchairs were at the gate. Again we waited and were told to move up the ramp. There were 2 other people with the same experience. We will not be flying with Westjet again. This is our second experience with them and they have failed us on both.

"staff were amazing"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | WestJet gate staff at Toronto Pearson airport were amazing. Thank you all for making my first flying experience so enjoyable that I am excited to fly with you again.  I am a very frugal person and if economy prices gave me the leg room, staff experience, snacks, carry on space, and more, than I can only image what my trips will be like as I go through all of the options WestJet has to offer.  My son and his family have moved out west and I was fearing I'd see them whenever his large family could fly home, but with the experience I just had, I've got the flying bug and excited to be heading out there at least 3-4 times a year now. This trip was Toronto to Calgary to Lloydminster and back the same route, but my next trip I'm going right into Edmonton .. super excited to see this great country and use WestJet services. Toronto Pearson airport; check in and security staff, were horrible, I will not waste another moment mentioning  this group and have looked into other WestJet departure options.

"Highly recommended"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | Excellent flight. Flew from Calgary to Gatwick. Definitely worth the money. Seats were very comfortable and the in flight entertainment was excellent compared to other competitors. Ground staff was very helpful with check in experience. Hot meals were served twice and taste was good. Overall, awesome airline with low prices. Highly recommended.

"Customer service staff not helpful or sympathetic"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | We had booked flight to Maui as direct and even changed our hotel booking for this flight. Notified that flight had been changed, no longer direct now leaving 3 hours earlier with layover in Vancouver, travel time extended by four hours. WestJet blamed change on Max air not available. Customer service staff not helpful or sympathetic. Treated me in a very condescending manner. Did not even offer a cup of coffee or an apology. Our last flight with WestJet in Feb 2019 poor cabin service, plane had been late and we were told they had not restocked any beverages including water so had to ration, staff were more interested in talking about their lives than helping customers.

"charge me for checked bags"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Edmonton to Calgary. Although I am a frequent flyer of WestJet Airlines they still charge me for checked bags and seat changes. When I called the complaint line about issues I had with the service they do the usually song and dance they are trained to do by sluffing me off. Stay away this airline.

"useless with the support side"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | I booked a flight from Medicine Hat to Montreal via Calgary and Toronto. I was to leave the evening of November 20th and to arrive the morning of the 21st and then flying back in the early evening of the 21st. Essentially this was to be a one day trip. My returning flight had very limited seating from Calgary to Medicine Hat (puddle jumper) so I had to pay the additional premium of $230 for the one way far so I would be able to make my flight and be home later that evening. First issue I had was to be able to do a web check in advance. The website was down so I had to drive to the airport to be able to do early check in. Upon my initial departure, there was a delay and then 5 minutes before my scheduled flight was supposed to departure it was cancelled. So instead of having a completed cancellation and loss, I jumped into my vehicle that I had parked at the airport and drove to Calgary to make my connection flight. During my drive I was on the phone with customer service so they wouldn't cancel my connection flight. They mentioned to me that I need to speak with customer service for any compensation regarding the flight. When landed in Toronto as per of my connection, I went to customer service to find out what is going on. They passed me onto their toll free number. While waiting for my Toronto to Montreal flight, I called the toll free number. They told me to wait until Tuesday the following week. I had to call WestJet once again to confirm that my return flight I would not be on the flight from the Calgary to Medicine Hat flight as my Vehicle was in Calgary and I would need to drive home. I did not want them to delay the flight as I was able to be on it. I finally made it home late the following evening after another 3 hour drive and being up for almost 48 hours. I then received a customer satisfaction survey from Westjet asking me how my flight experience was from Calgary to Medicine Hat. I thought to myself is this for real as I was not on that flight because I had to drive. I responded with a '0' and gave them my explanation for why and suggested that I should receive a credit for the additional $230 premium I paid to be on that flight as well as the initial flight from Medicine Hat to Calgary. I received a response from their customer service team saying there is nothing they could do and it wasn't their fault that the initial flight was cancelled. Not only did I lose my approximate $300 on the flight, I also had to pay out of pocket another $100 for my fuel and Calgary parking I had to pay for so I could make my flight. I think the fact that WestJet bases their customer service as a major positive factor to fly with them is a complete joke. They have been completely useless with the support side of things.

"Surly and very unhelpful"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Toronto Pearson to Bridgetown with WestJet Airlines. Surly and very unhelpful lady at the counter and equally unhelpful on board staff. Did these people take a course on how not to smile when refusing to help with my bag? Never again.

"Things are looking up"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Toronto to Calgary. Things are looking up. After several negative reviews that focussed on operational inefficiencies, I had, finally, two pleasant experiences. Full flights both ways. Efficient check in, good luggage drop off and delivery, courteous cabin staff and clean airplane. Outbound flight departed and arrived on time. Inbound flight left one hour late due to de icing but gained back 30 minutes en route. The cabin staff were hard working and polite. Announcements were not overly corny or intrusive, on board purchases were adequate and the captain thanked us in person as we left the airplane.

"have to thank the attendants"

(Canada)

Not Verified | Toronto to Fort Myers. I have been an Air Canada flyer for a while, but WestJet is way better, more leg room, the flight attendants are aware of the travellers needs. I have to thank the attendants on that flight, I lost something very important and they returned it to me. So thankful for the person that was thinking and put the effort in to returning it me. I will be flying with West Jet again and again.
