"Save your money, definitely not worth any additional dollars"

Not Verified | I am a frequent flyer and rarely travel with WestJet as I find they cut every corner. This time I decided to try the premium economy upgrade. You are paying for the seat only. The upgrade is for the seat only so in addition you still have to pay for baggage. It doesn’t come with lounge access or any of the amenities that come with upgrades on other airlines. I’ve recently flown Swoop with priority service and extra legroom seat and it was a better option and much cheaper than WestJet premium economy. Save your money, definitely not worth any additional dollars.

"I have spent 13 hours on hold"

Trip Verified | I booked a Disneyland Vacation for myself and my family through WestJet Vacations. We were scheduled to leave November 8th. I began calling WestJet on Oct 13th to cancel or reschedule our vacation. To date I have spent 13 hours on hold waiting for a representative to get back to me. I could not make changes online because it is a vacation package so I had to wait for a representative to call me back. WestJet finally called me back on November 7th. The representative was very rude and informed me that it wasn't their problem that I couldn't get through and that people have gotten through. (Did I mention 13 hours on hold?) They refused to reschedule my trip and refused to refund my $3298.42. I cannot believe how ignorant and irresponsible this airline is. I am still trying to take this up the chain of command and have now been on hold for 1.5 hours today. This is on top of the 13 hours I have been on hold so far. I am very disappointed and unless this is resolved favourably, I won't ever book a trip through WestJet again. Also f.y.i. the nonmedical insurance is really only for a new, non pre-existing medical reason or military deployment. RBC did refund my $439.00 non medical insurance premium. The representative informed me that they have been getting numerous complaints about WestJet.

Trip Verified | My wife and I had 2 tickets Dec.24 2021 to fly from Montreal to Fort Lauderdale in the afternoon. Westjet emailed me in Nov to say the flight was cancelled and that they placed us on a flight that required sleeping inside the Toronto airport for 10 hours.

"the service was awful"

Trip Verified | I don't even know where to start. First off, we sat on the tarmac for 5.5 hours before taking off. Between mechanical issues, outdated flight plans, flight plans having technical issues and then stewards leaving and waiting for a new crew we were beyond irritated. I'm pregnant and sitting in a cramped seat for a total of 12 hours with no food available and extreme nausea was not on my agenda. We tried contacting customer service, the service was awful. There will be no compensation for anything. No upgraded seats for our trip home. No food vouchers offered. Just a sour attitude. I will not be flying WestJet again. Their prices and lack of customer care are not worth the hassle.

"about 4½ hours on-hold"

Not Verified | A WestJet Vacation to Punta Cana was booked with the kids, leaving on June 30, 2020 and WestJet cancelled it due to COVID-19. About a year later, WestJet announced that they would provide full refunds onto the credit card initially used to book the trip. As directed by WestJet, the online form that customers to use for the purpose of requesting a refund was fully completed and submitted on August 5, 2021. For status inquires, WestJet requested that due to high call volumes, a follow-up call be scheduled, so the follow-up call was scheduled for September 14, 2021. When WestJet called on the scheduled day and after an acceptable on-hold period, the representative said that it would take up to 90-days from the refund request date of August 5, 2021 for the refund to be received onto to the credit card originally used. After just over 90 days, a second follow-up call was scheduled for 9:45 am on November 5, 2021. An automated request to hold was announced, and then intermittent recorded instructions to continue holding and music were heard for the next 4 hours. After about 4½ hours on-hold with zero live-person contact, that call was disconnected and zero information was offered about the status of the refund requested over 3-months ago.

Trip Verified | Westjet is the worst airline to book flight or vacation. They cancelled flight and vacation and never returned the money. Trying to call and it is impossible to speak to representative. They put you on hold and never answering.

Trip Verified | I am frustrated and disappointed with WestJet’s terrible customer service. I have been on hold for 2 hr and 40 min so far to ask a question regarding COVID requirements which are fluid, not covered under FAQ. They do not provide an email or chat line. To get a call back the wait is a week. Our booking with WJ vacations is for 7 people. They had no problem taking our $$$ but provide absolutely no customer care. Will be looking at other airline options next time we fly.

Trip Verified | Arrived at Halifax Air Port and were told our trip to Edmonton was cancelled. We were forced to buy a new ticket for nearly 2000 dollars. We received no refund as we had booked with a third party. WestJet could not help us. The third party, Confirmation Desk, in New York explained WestJet was responsible. WestJet explains Confirmation Desk was responsible. We are caught in the middle. The airline needs to be responsible for their tickets.

"they have no customer service so you cannot talk to anyone"

Trip Verified | Booked a flight with Westjet with Premium seats ($100.00 each way) and they changed the flight, did not honor the 'paid' seats and now I was on a connecting flight instead of direct. Tried calling but there is zero customer service available. Then, I drove to Abbotsford airport after checking online when there was a departure to make sure a Westjet rep was there, no luck, when I asked why I wasn't getting the $100.00 seat I paid for, he simply said "Its big plane, don't worry about it". I was going to complain to Westjet, but they have no customer service so you cannot talk to anyone. Unbelievable. Westjet was my go to airline, not now or ever again. Also, no food was offered even though it was a long flight. I have never been so disgusted with an airline. I will also never recommend or fly with them again.

"Overall a good experience"

Trip Verified | Used a Westjet Vacations package for this trip, and loaded their app on my phone. Received an alert thru the app early departure morning that the flight leaving YVR would be delayed 30 minutes due to a staffing matter. Departure should have been 8:40am. Upon check in at the airport, still showing leaving on time. Departure time not updated until waiting to board at the gate. Ended up backing away from the gate at 9:24am. Also left Cancun 30 minutes late when returning home. Westjet was only operating one check in for all destinations at their Domestic check in counters. After dropping off my checked suitcase, was told to proceed to D area for security screening. That is in the International security area. Walked all the way from Westjet’s domestic check in to international, only to see a closed sign and directing people to C (back in the domestic area of the airport). Flight crew on board were friendly. Handed a disinfectant wipe to each person upon boarding. Drink service twice during flight. Limited food for purchase, just snacks, due to Covid. Kit Kat, mini Pringles chips, mini humus and crackers package. Didn’t help that YVR international departures area only had Subway open even though multiple outgoing flights that morning. Not even a gift shop open. Passengers who weren’t prepared seemed annoyed at lack of options for purchase onboard. It’s Covid, and if travelling during a pandemic worth while to look options up prior to travel. I ended up having more snacks with me from home than I consumed on my flights. Numerous times during the flight, over the speakers it was announced to ‘properly wear your mask covering your nose and mouth unless actively eating’. Once even announced by the captain. Some people pretended to be eating their chips forever to try avoiding wearing their mask (saw many of those people when walking to the back of the plane to use the washroom). Luckily people near me on the flight were compliant. I double-masked for my flight, changed to fresh masks every 2 hours, and didn’t remove to eat/drink if others in my row were eating and had theirs off. I felt safe at all times during the flight, it was a full flight. Upon landing, the typical announcement to keep seatbelts fastened, etc … but also clearly said “remain seated until the row in front of you departs to ensure distancing”. That didn’t work, people jumped up and pushed forward instantly, squishing into others. On my return flight leaving Cancun, middle seat was empty and the person at the window had a lose fitting mask that didn’t keep up over his nose. I mentioned it to the flight attendant when she walked the aisle before take off, and she immediately asked him to ensure his mask is over his nose for the entire flight, even asked him if he had another mask that clipped over his nose, but he said he didn’t. I kept an eye on him during the flight but he appeared to ensure his mask was up. Westjet hasn’t been my airline of choice in the past for vacation packages, but not many options since AirTransat and Sunwing pulled out of the West during Covid. Overall a good experience, especially considering the current situation. I was just happy to finally be going on a beach vacation.
