"rebooked us at no charge"

Not Verified | My partner and I were flying back to BC from UK and we missed our connection to the WestJet flight, and our bags did too. An angel named Heather at Toronto Pearson WestJet customer service made an exception for us and "rebooked us on our Toronto-Calgary flight at no charge. As for our lost luggage, Westjet agents helped track the bags down and ensured that they got forwarded on to our final destination. Even better, they paid for the bags to be delivered to our house.

"the worst airline going"

Trip Verified | This is the worst airline going. I had trouble booking ticket, price did not match booked price of ~230 per seat with bags/Taxes, but came up near double at the end of the booking procedure. Obviously some sort of system glitch. I tried phoning "Customer Service " after waiting 2+ hours, what a waist of time., I was given an option to get a call back 7 days later. I spoke to a rep eventually 7-8days later and she said she understands there was a system problem, but she could do noting about it. I asked to speak to "Guest Services' the next level up. She assured me I could talk with them and explain my case fully. I got a unfriendly letter/email from them about 2 days later saying they review my case and there is 'nothing that can be done- phone the Government regulator '. How odd is this. I never explained my case in full.

"don’t fly with this airline"

Trip Verified | Hands down the worst airline. Not trying to bash the kind ones that work here but the management is horrible. The airline only cares about making money and does not think twice to cancel your flight 3 times in one day and rebook you for later on in the week. Please stand up for yourself and your money because this airline will treat you like garbage. You will have stress and rescheduling nightmare around work, education, and arranging rides. Don’t ever count on your flight actually happening. Just don’t fly with this airline, save the stress and hassle.

"WestJet cancelled our connecting flight"

Trip Verified | We flew from Victoria, Dec 4 at 10am to allow for airport Covid-19 tests. WestJet cancelled our 6pm connecting flight via email while we were waiting at the departure gate for Kauai. Having cleared US Customs and Immigration, we were blocked from leaving the departure gate area by Canadian security as we did not have the documentation to re-enter Canada. After 2 hours, Canadian security were able to find a WestJet person to get us back to the WestJet counter. We received no other information from WestJet. We had to wait 24 hours for the next flight. Our cost, a night in a hotel, a paid for night lost in Kauai, lost rental car reservation replace by a car at a higher price to avoid being stranded at the Lihue Airport with a 10.40 pm arrival. WestJet saved money by consolidating two under-booked flights. We are out about $1000. WestJet's reply after one month "Based on the details of your itinerary, we are unable to approve your claim for compensation as your flight was impacted due to flight crew member availability and was required for safety purposes."

"essentially stranded at the airport"

Trip Verified | Westjet cancelled one leg of our trip at the last minute! They rebooked us to a very late flight. The worst part is that we will be unable to pickup our rental car as the new flight arrives so late. We will be essentially stranded at the airport for 10 hours (overnight) waiting for the rental car center to open

"stretching into a 34 hr ordeal"

Trip Verified | My son's flight out of Saskatoon to Calgary was delayed multiple times. Was supposed to leave at 13:05 and finally left around 16:00. While they were waiting to take off in Saskatoon, they were told that their next flight was canceled (approx 13:45). Upon arriving in Calgary, he was unable to get his bag. He then stood in line for 4 hours waiting to talk to a Westjet representative regarding a hotel and food vouchers. After 4 hours, the Westjet staff closed their counter and told everyone that they'd have to find their own accommodations. They wee then supposed to keep their receipts for their rooms and meals and to send them in for reimbursement. Not overly optimistic about getting anything back from this company. His flight to Abbotsford was rebooted to Vancouver for the next day. Upon arriving, he was told that his bag is now sitting in Abbotsford. Not sure how his bag got there when he couldn't. As I am writing this, he is sitting in the Abbotsford Airport waiting to talk to someone so that he can get his bag. A flight that should have taken 6hrs (including layover) is now stretching into a 34 hr ordeal. If you want to be left high and dry, then this is the airline for you.

"Left stranded in the middle of the night"

Trip Verified | Absolutely horrified by Westjet. The plane was delayed two hours due to de-icing in Calgary, then, sat on the tarmac for an hour because “there were delays in loading luggage” and missed our connecting flight long after midnight. Were then informed by airline staff that hotel accommodation for the connection arranged the following morning would not be accommodated because de-icing is considered a weather event. Proceeded to find a hotel near the Calgary airport (no taxis available at 1:30am and Ubers few and far between in -26 degree weather), only to be told by no more than three hotels around the airport that no were rooms available. Hotel staff also informed us that this was common due to WestJet’s complete incompetence. Left stranded in the middle of the night in -26 degree weather. Never again.

"Westjet has cancelled 31/111 flights"

Not Verified | Flew a delayed Westjet from Phoenix to Calgary and missed our connecting flight to Saskatoon. Had to spend the night. Westjet rebooked us for the next day. Got e mail this morning saying our a.m. flight was cancelled and were rebooked for 11:25 p.m. the next day. Checked today's Calgary Airport departure schedule Westjet has cancelled 31/111 flights or 28%. Air Canada has cancelled 1/51 flights or 2%.

"They have been fighting us for compensation"

Not Verified | Our flight was cancelled with 1 day notice and no reason was provided. They have been fighting us for compensation and claim to have no idea what is going on. Additionally call wait times are 4+ hours and usually the agent will just say "I can't help you" and hang up. I have another flight in the morning which needs to be moved but they are completely unhelpful and I can't change it online. Additionally there was no food on the plane, it took 2 hours to get our bags at every leg of the trip and no one is helpful. This airline is dying and no one should make this anything other than their last option. 0/10

"didn’t manage to transfer our luggage"

Not Verified | This company has well and truly lost their way (along with my baggage!) Stated on the flight Calgary to Los Cabos Dec 19th, started to board, stopped on the jetway by the pilot, the plane had not been cleaned yet from the night before 1.5 hours delay while they found a crew to employ toilets and clean the plane. Return Dec 30th Los Cabos to Calgary boarding, got halfway down the jet way turned back by the purser, plane not yet cleaned please turn back - 30 mon delay. Arrive in Calgary and sat on tarmac for 45 mins while they tried to “find a crew” to Marshall us to the gate, seriously! Fortunately we had a 3 hour connection in Calgary so could afford the wait time. Flight Calgary to Nanaimo delayed 1 hour, pilot “in the airport trying to locate him” and “waiting for co pilot to arrive from another flight”. The gate experience for this flight was nothing short of a gong show. Arrive Nanaimo, despite having nearly 3 hours they didn’t manage to transfer our luggage, no agent to help with lost luggage just a girl handing out a piece of paper with a UPC code that you needed to scan to complete your own delayed baggage claim. It’s now been 36 hours since I completed that firm status still says “searching for bags check back later”. 3 flights have arrived in Nanaimo since ours, still no bags, did I mention we had Priority baggage handling! After 2.5 hours I finally got they to customer service. They cannot tell us where our bags are because “they don’t have access to the baggage scanning system”! Quote from CS rep “99% certain they are in Calgary and they are working their way thru trying to get them on on a flight”. No idea when that might be though as they are not updating any info in the baggage tracking system since they are short staffed. Despite our toiletries and a few items most are our warm weather things, hopefully by the time we need them here in BC WestJet will have managed to get our baggage to us! Do yourself a favour, find another airline and avoid these guys like the plague.
