“I would highly recommend business class”

(United States)

Trip Verified | The family at AtlasAdventured recommends this airline! We flew WestJet Airlines as a family of 3, 2 adults and 1 toddler, from LAX to Calgary, Canada, then continuing on to Paris, France. We booked our tickets about 4 months before our trip, and decided to book the Business Class. Our very first business class trip, and with a toddler! We also flew with 3 other family members, who all flew in different classes. The price tag for the business class seats were not nearly as steep as I expected. We would have saved a few hundred dollars if we had booked earlier. Our first flight from LAX to Calgary had no “lay flat” seats available, but the business class seats were big and comfy. We were not offered any pre-flight drink or cool washcloth, but it was a shorter flight (about 3 hours). As we were getting ready to take off, our daughter who was about to turn 4, was trying to get comfortable in her seat, when 2 flight attendants came over and yelled at her to sit down. She wasn’t standing, merely adjusting her legs. I was actually pretty shocked at this instance, as was the rest of our family who was sitting around us. Instead of yelling at a 3 year old to sit on her butt “immediately”, they should have said something to myself or my husband. I told the attendant she should have expressed that to me and to not talk to my daughter so rudely. She later came back and apologized and handed me a bag of candy for my daughter. After that incident, it was a good flight. The food was alright, but they only had one option left once they got to my seat. I received the chicken breast with a veloute herb sauce served with fingerling potatoes, baby carrots, and seasoned broccolini. The chicken and veggies tasted like cafeteria food, and the dinner roll it came with was still frozen in the middle. It also came with a fresh asparagus salad and a chocolate cake which were the best things on the plate. The next flight, from Calgary to Paris, was by far the best flight. As soon as we boarded and found our seats, we were handed a glass of champagne. The lay flat seats are very spacious and came with an amenity kit which was filled with compression socks, eye mask, face wipe, lotion, and lip balm. There is a lot of storage around the seat, and the blanket and pillow provided were warm and comfortable. Our 3 year old daughter fell asleep in her seat pretty much as soon as we boarded. The service and attention to details from the flight attendants was great. The food service came out in a timely fashion, and the menu was superb. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli served with sauteed spinach and a parmesan marinara sauce. It also came with an asian slaw salad, dinner roll, and a chocolate feuilletine cake. It was delicious! Shortly after I put my chair in the lay flat position and got some much needed rest! Since it was a long flight, we were also served breakfast. Great breakfast menu with options for everyone. I ordered the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on an English muffin and a breakfast bowl which was a small bowl filled with grapes, a chunk of Brie cheese, cherry tomatoes, half of a boiled egg, and an apricot. It was satisfying and delicious. Having the lay flat seats was so amazing. It’s hard to fly without those seats now! The staff was great and the seat was very comfortable. I would highly recommend business class for any long distance flights!

"no attempt to retain business"

(Canada)

Not Verified | 5 yr old boy off leash in the Premium cabin spent 5 hours and 55min screaming, running, throwing toys, and crawling under seats disrupting passengers who spent thousands of dollars to fly in PLUS. As a ten year westjet Platinum status customer I was told by WestJet that they would do nothing to compensate us for our experience. Even thought the attendant on the flight urged us to communicate our experience with the company in hopes they would do something. I was also told that, even though my wife and I had flown 18x on WestJet in 2023, that my spend had not reached the qualifying for the year (somehow) and that our status would now be switched to the lowest tier. Former WestJet loyal customer, now switching airlines due to poor customer service and no attempt to retain business.

"service of WestJet has deteriorated"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | The flight of Jan 13th, WS1532 was cancelled due to cold weather. 58 hours later Westjet has not sent email to reschedule, we called WJ without answer after more than 2 hours waiting. We went to Westjet counter in YEG Airport, the manager could not arrange substituted flight though WS still advertise high priced same rout flight in the next couple of days. As long term frequent flyer for WJ and many other airline, service of WestJet has deteriorated.

“left all the people with zero support”

(Canada)

Trip Verified | WestJet in Edmonton delayed the flight 3 times in the row, and in the end, at 3AM just canceled the flight completely. They left all the people with zero support. Not covering any costs (hotel, food, taxi...). Outside is really cold tonight and lots of people with no winter clothes (going for a vacation) are not allowed even to stay upstairs, where they can buy a cup of hot coffee. Soonest available reschedule they proposed after two days. What to do in the airport for more than 2 days with no food, hotel? WestJet representative, just said nothing we can help with. All other flights are operating normaly during cold weather. Avoid West Jet, junk company, they do not care about their customers at all.

"Overall great service"

(Canada)

Not Verified | I’ve flown business and economy equal amounts but her service surpassed my other experiences. The plane was normal, this was a 4.5 hour flight so business was 2 seats rather than the usual 3 for these aircrafts. The stewardess on our flight was so kind and so good at her job. There was a medical emergency and she kept her calm and dealt with it well. She was very attentive, she made sure that I felt comfortable about others eating nuts around me (my allergy isn’t airborne so I was fine). I was last to eat and I didn’t get to choose my meal but she brought me several snacks free of charge. Overall great service!

"extremely disappointed"

(Canada)

Trip Verified |   I was extremely disappointed after calling Westjet customer service after my flight was cancelled by Westjet on Dec 28th, 2023 to get additional modifications done to my ticket. The customer service agent was unable to provide me with an option to pay for modified seat or change flight option. I literally had to thank him for "not helping me". At this point in time, I don't see any difference at all in service or quality with any of the discount carriers in Canada. I hope Porter will challenge Westjet to be better.

“Terrible company”

(Canada)

Not Verified | On December 14th my husband and I had flights booked from Victoria to Edmonton, returning on the 18th. This was meant to be an early Christmas with our families. The weekend before we were set to leave we got a call that one of my husband's cousins passed away unexpectedly in his sleep. His funeral was set to be held on the 13th, and so we contacted WestJet and Expedia (whom we booked the flights through) to try to change our flight to the 12th so we could attend. Unfortunately because of the specific package we purchased nothing was able to be done, so we purchased new one-way tickets for another $500 per person leaving on the 12th and planned to still fly home on our original return flight on the 18th. However, because we did not board our original departing flight on the 14th (we were already in Edmonton at that point), the WestJet system automatically cancelled our return flights on the 18th. We were forced to purchase new tickets on the same flight back to Victoria for twice as much as we had originally spent (another $500 per person). Because we booked through Expedia, WestJet is refusing to acknowledge their fault and claims there is nothing they can do, suggesting it was my fault that I had not familiarized myself with the proper protocol prior to booking a new fight, even though I had spoken to multiple people on the phone about trying to change my original flight where no one advised me to consider what might happen with my return flight on the 18th should I no-show on the 14th. Likewise, because the policy is with WestJet, Expedia also refuses to do anything. Instead of the system automatically cancelling the return flight it should give 24 hours notice of cancellation so that customers have a chance to call and inform the airline whether they will be on that flight or not rather than blatantly disregarding the fact that life happens and circumstances change. Terrible company.

"Worst airline ever"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Worst airline ever. All of their crew has an attitude problem. I have never seen any airline sharing pop can. I was traveling from Calgary to Vancouver and it felt like this airline is from third world country. So cheap even after asking a pop can crew denied and this happened on a two hour delayed flight. This is how they treat customers.
