"an amiable cabin crew"

(United States)

Trip Verified |  It's always a pleasure to fly United Airlines in this modern era. Flying on jets like the 787 is always good. Inflight entertainment with favorite movies, free Wi-Fi with T-Mobile, mood lighting, and larger overhead bins. It would've been better if United served free food and not food for purchase. But other than that, with an amiable cabin crew and a safe flight with a few turbulences, I can't say enough about it.

"Unbelievably sketchy business practice"

(Ireland)

Not Verified | Changed my flight, selected cheaper flight for a fare credit. I was unable to check-in, called the United Customer Service, they claimed I owed money even though my new flight offered a credit for which I received an email confirming the credit. Told me it was a mistake, I have no credit, and that they can do an even exchange eliminating what I now "owed" for the ticket. Unbelievably sketchy business practice to not re-issue a ticket after confirming the new flight and then claiming customers owe more money when asking to check-in.

“this airline has become completely awful”

(United States)

Trip Verified | I would give 0 stars if I could. I had a flight from AVP (UA 1446) to ORD (UA2665) to IAH. First flight was delayed for over an hour & not a single team member even attempted to notify us. We waited & waited, receiving zero information regarding the delay. Once we were finally on the plane, we waited another 20 minutes without reason. Once we landed, we waited for 45 minutes just to get off. This left me with less than 10 minutes to make it to my next gate… and the walk was estimated to be 18 minutes. On my way off of the first plane, I told the flight attendant at the front my situation & asked if she could help me in any way possible. She ROLLED her eyes at me & was entirely dismissive. I am astonished that United would even consider hiring someone so rude. Once off, I sprinted to my next gate, which is absolutely unacceptable. I have asthma & nearly collapsed due to such heavy breathing & wheezing. Several people approached me, asking if I was okay & if I need help… yet not a single worker. Absolutely awful. I had tears falling down my face the entire run to the gate because I was so frustrated. I finally got to the gate, panting, & noticed that passengers were getting off the plane. I stopped a man & politely asked him what was going on & he told me that the plane was having “technical difficulties” and that our flight was delayed. That being said, I sprinted (and nearly passed out) all for nothing. I checked the app several times & nothing was changed so I had no idea. I have flown United since I was a child & am extremely disappointed. The last 2-3 years, this airline has become completely awful. I used to love traveling & now dread it when I fly with United. I much rather fly with Delta or Southwest. Save your time, money, & energy and fly with someone else.

"I will not fly United in future"

(Canada)

Not Verified | I paid $280 for a package to get upgrade to Premium Economy. Once aboard, the seat in flight entertainment did not work or WIFI. No one seemed to care and later reported it to United to ask for a credit, was offered $50 coupon for future flight. I told them to keep it as I will not fly United in future.

"downgraded to the worst airline"

(United States)

Trip Verified | I use to think United was one of the better airlines. Not anymore. I noticed it a couple of years ago, how the airline is getting worse. Now it is the worst one I’ve been on by far. I was traveling from Corpus Christi to Manila Philippines Saturday December 9th on the 7:20 am flight to Houston. My flight was delayed due to mechanical failure. I was stuck in Corpus airport for almost 8 hours. Watch planes come and go to Houston. While I’m being told there’s no room for me yet. As if I already don’t have a 24 hour flight ahead of me with no problems. The staff was very rude, and unprofessional. By the time I got to Houston, I had another 4 hour layover. Checked in to one of their Club Lounges at my expense. Long story short, I arrived to my destination a day later. After I returned home, I filled a complaint telling my experience, and looking for some sort of reimbursement for my time and expenses for the trip there. I received an immediate email in return stating someone would reach out to me in 21 - 28 days. No later than 6 weeks. I got a response in less than 24 hours saying all they can do is give me a $100 voucher/certificate that expires in 1 year to go towards my next flight. I was blown away. My ticket was $2,900. I felt like they intentionally insulted me to get under my skin. I won’t lie. I will fly again with them locally. Because I have a lot of air miles. But after that’s gone. I’ll never spend another penny with United in this lifetime. And that’s my advice to everyone. Don’t just take my word for it. Read the rest of the reviews. United has downgraded to the worst airline (I’ve ever been on anyway). But still charging elite prices.

"disappointed and disgusted"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Absolutely disappointed and disgusted with this airline. You make customers jump through so many hoops by needing to download your app to putting a cc on file in order to pay for WIFI and Drinks then do not offer those options when your passengers have boarded. I wasted hours on the phone with customer service in order to make sure I could be ready and then am told after were in the air that cannot purchase drink they have modified the menu. I have had a long trip driving and traveling for work I enjoy having a beer on flight it's about the only chance I have time for one. It was basically the last straw after everything.

"I should be compensated"

(United States)

Trip Verified | My wife and I booked our bucket list trip to Italy through United via their Star Alliance partner, Air Canada. The nightmare started on September 25, in Montreal, when boarding started, but was never completed. 450 passengers were told that there was a delay because the Air Canada airline baggage personnel crashed the luggage lift into the cargo door. Passengers deplaned and were told there was a one-hour delay. We were then told there was a two-hour delay. Delay after delay. We were strung along until 1:30 am on 9/26/23 when the airline finally admitted the plane would not leave until noon the next day. Vouchers were offered for hotels and food. We were made to pick up luggage and go through customs again and then check our bags again, all 450 people! Then we had to get in line for the vouchers. This took a lot of time and we were exhausted. The line moved slowly and when the service desk was in site there was one Air Canada attendant working. Meanwhile there were 6 or 7 other attendants at the service desk helping passengers for flights the next day and none stepped in to help the passengers that had been up all night! When we finally reached the front of the line (at 4:30 in the morning!), we were told there were no vouchers left! We returned to the gate and slept on very uncomfortable benches as airline transport vehicles beeped and announcements rang out all night. We received $30 for food. We spent $12 of that on toothbrush kits and had to spend $64 for a meal out of our own money. The flight left at noon the next day and arrived at 2 AM in Rome. The original flight was to arrive at 9:30 AM in daylight when the trains were running in Rome. We were supposed to catch a train to Florence but trains do not operate at 2:00 am. We spent our second night trying to sleep at the train station in the company of pigeons and other passengers in the same boat. We took the first available train in the morning to Florence but arrived 30 minutes too late for our first scheduled tour of “David and Accademia”. We had already paid $73.88 for this in advance so not only did we lose our chance to see “David and Accademia”, we lost our money We ended up missing our first two nights stay in the hotel we booked in Rome. We were told the rooms were canceled because we were a “no show” but yet we still had to pay for them even though we called our hotel several times to report our delays. It was a very stressful time! I reached out to both Air Canada and United. They claim the flight was cancelled due to a safety-related reason and it is ineligible for compensation. It was a safety related issue but the issue it was caused by United/Air Canada’s negligence. An employee ran his luggage loading forklift into the airplane and caused the door not to be airtight. Since the airline caused the problem due to their incompetence, I should be compensated for the misery we were put through.

“cabin crew were very welcoming”

(Australia)

Trip Verified | When we arrived at the bag drop at Los Angeles we were greeted with United Airlines rudest employee. She had a face mask on and simply pointed at our bags. I then initiated communication with her and she managed to communicate back that our bags did not have tags. I then agreed with her and explained that is why we were attempting to reach the the counters. We were then ordered to do self check in, which we worked out to do. When we finally reached the counter the girls there were chatting but turned their attention to us immediately and were very welcoming. I heard an altercation between United’s employee and another customer and then spoke to a supervisor about her who explained that she was feeling under the weather. Moving on Boarding was efficient, cabin crew looked very smartly dressed & were very welcoming. We were late leaving but arrived 20 mins early. We weren’t given any food as this was not part of our fare and we had dinner in the lounge earlier anyway. The seats were adequate for a 3.5 hour flight but I would dread sitting in these for a flight to Asia, Europe or Australia - the same type of seat for a domestic shorthaul. No headphones were provided & we didn’t have our own so unfortunately we had no inflight entertainment for this flight. Our bags arrived at the belt before us & were taken to a storage area for us until we were ready. (We had breakfast in the lounge) I didn’t ask for them to do this but appreciated it. Overall, I would recommend United.

"Worst service I’ve ever received"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Worst service I’ve ever received on any flight, let alone a 14.5 hour international flight. Flight staff was clueless, WiFi was out, plane was filthy and customer service director offered a measly $150 in flight credit, like I’d ever want to fly with this company again. Run away from United, any other option is better.

"Do Not Fly United"

(United States)

Trip Verified | I was still early for scheduled flight but they were done boarding and would not let me on the plane stating I missed it by 4 minutes. The next flights were all day flights in uncomfortable and very small planes. Then on the way home they delayed my flight 30 minutes waiting for other passengers. Do Not Fly United. Horrible!
