"Worst flying experience ever"

Trip Verified | After a 2 hour maintenance delay and then having to deplane then reboard after another hour, I barely made my connecting flight and had to run through O'Hare to race to my gate. I barely made it to my connecting flight. Then I got on my plane to Honolulu which is a 9.5 hour flight. They told us there would not be wifi or entertainment available. 45 minutes later the pilot comes on and says we might need to deplane and there could be an hour delay because of some problems they were having with their entertainment system. I'm frustrated because I am anxiously going to see my husband coming home from a 7 month deployment. I also spent a lot of money on this flight. Worst flying experience ever. Never ever flying with United again.

"will never fly United again"

Trip Verified | Charleston to Newark. I have flown with United for 4 years consistently now and have never had such a horrible experience as today. Customer service was terrible, no help was given, and no solution so I am now flying Delta. I arrived almost an hour and half before my flight - at 5:30am, bags paid for online and check in online done. All I needed to do was put my bags on the flight and get on security line - the line was so long that they pushed the 6:50am flight customers to the front, but when one woman complained about it, they sent us back and said that the flights would stand by for us since so many of us were on those flights. Being sent to the back of the line made me not get to security until 6:25am, with boarding ending at 6:30am. Furious no one could help me or would, and I managed to run to the gate and miss my flight by 5 minutes. I planned according as I have done for every single flight I have ever taken out of Charleston, and missed my flight because of incompetence and the disregard of United and airport employees. When I called to try and book another flight the representative was also extremely unhelpful only offering the most expensive routes or flights for tomorrow when I needed to be home today. When we mentioned I would be taking Delta he started badmouthing Delta and how it would be better to take United - rude, unhelpful, and disrespectful. The horrid stories of this airline disregarding customers needs or even attempting to be helpful have never been more evident than today and I am overjoyed with the care and kindness shown by Delta airlines. There is no doubt in my mind I will never fly United again.

"we are done with United!"

Trip Verified | Houston to London. United is horrible. We paid $1,100 to upgrade to First Class 8-9 months prior to the flight. Get to the airport and we are NOT upgraded. They say we paid to be in a waitlist. They say they will refund our money (and 40,000 miles) ASAP. I get my credit card statement and they have only refunded $550! Why? Both our flights were on the same ticket. I’ve complained three times, only to get emailed back by three different people. They have not offered me one little thing for a big inconvenience of not flying first class, much less trying to scam me out of $550. We fly pretty often and we are done with United!

"a horrible experience"

Trip Verified | Grand Rapids to Brussels via Chicago. Our first plane was grounded for maintenance, and were stuck in GR for 4 hours. We missed a day of vacation, lost our personal pick up, lost a day at the hotel and our first class Euro train tickets. I paid for German airlines and United messed up so bad we had to take United to New Jersey. Our New Jersey flight was taking off late but had to be returned do to an passenger not being able to fly. I had to rebuy my euro train pass for twice what I originally paid and later then my original ticket. When we got to Brussels there was an extra security check just for United. Our seats were not on the ticket, even though I bought the tickets 4 months ago. On the way home from Brussels the scheduled the flight so tight that we had to rush to make the plane. You were not able to buy any food on the plane either. When we got to Chicago, again the transfer flight was so close we barely had time to get through customs with a few minutes to spare running through the terminal. But it was ok because they didn't have a plane to fly. We were another 2 hours late getting home due to no plane and when they got a plane it was held up for maintenance problems again. Most of the time me and my girlfriend didn't even get to sit next to each other. So after paying for a hotel stay we didn't use, extra 100 dollars in taxi fees, airlines I specifically paid for and was not able to use, an extra 300 dollars in euro train fares and lost time visiting my very close friend I had not seen in 6 years. United said the best they could do was give me 60 dollars in food vouchers. It was a horrible experience. I feel so bad for the two employees out of 15 that actually were nice.

"she couldn’t care less"

Trip Verified | Las Vegas to Newark. Flight was delayed 45 minutes to board and another 45 minutes in the aircraft for take off clearance. I was very anxious because i had a connection after Newark and it was doubtful i could make it. I asked the flight attendant and she couldn’t care less - she told me call your travel agent. Can you believe that. At that time a male flight attendant also on business class told me that if there is a problem United will book me on the next flight and told me not to worry. How hard was what be did? He was probably the only one paying attention to the training. Also the power socket on my seat was off. Again the female attendant turned her head the other way. The male attendant just said give me your cell phone i will have it charged for you. Again so simple.

"worst flight we’ve ever flown"

Trip Verified | Miami to Seattle via San Francisco. This was the worst flight we’ve ever flown on and we were a party of 7, 5 children and two adults we had to sit on the plane for three hours before it took off and they didn’t take off - going to San Francisco should have it gone to Denver to refill with fuel and then it flew to San Francisco. Instead of getting there at approximately 10:00 PM we got there at 2am with five kids and the employees on the aircraft were super rude to our teenage kids. United airlines has the worst customer service we’ve ever seen on an airline they are just completely horrible they don’t take care of their passengers, especially people traveling with children. We had to stay in San Francisco overnight and then get all split up with the family because there were seven of us to be able to get flown home my husband left with four children at 9:45 and I could not get a flight with my other son until 4 o’clock the next day. It was completely horrible the process of getting rebooked took over two hours in the night time with nobody waiting in line and we had to have five people help us to get this all sorted out with the manager stepping in.

"need to step up the efficiency"

Trip Verified | Slow, thats how I feel everything goes on this airline. On my flight to visit family I didn’t make it to my destination until approx 26 hours from when I boarded the first flight. 3 flights later. We sat on tarmac at LAX for who knows (no one knew) said something with the bathrooms. They need to step up the efficiency made me miss my connecting. Sat on the plane for over an hour when I was almost the last one to board on the way back. This is just becoming commonplace with United I think. Please, people, we have places to be!

"Overall they do the minimum"

Trip Verified | Tel Aviv to San Francisco. Polaris business class seat configuration of 2x2x2 in this Boeing 787-8. Not a typical configuration and a bit out of date set up. The seats are flat bed but all the lower part is not 180 degrees so if you are tall this seat is not comfortable at all – half part of your leg are in a strange angle. Food is not eatable and very basic. Service in minimal. Overall they do the minimum to take you in a 15hr flight. This time with no entertainment system at all -it was broken for all passengers

"definitely be flying with them again"

Trip Verified | I was a bit nervous about flying United because I've heard so many bad reviews, but we flew from Dublin to Tampa via Washington and then Tampa to Dublin via Newark and on all 4 flights we were met with nothing but courtesy, efficiency, friendliness and helpfulness. There were delays encountered on the Tampa to Newark flight due to weather, but we were kept informed all along the way and were even booked onto a standby connection should we have missed our original connection in Newark. We caught the connection with minutes to spare and fully expected our luggage to miss the flight, but to our surprise and delight it was right there on the carousel when we arrived in Dublin. There was an off-duty Cabin Crew member sitting next to us on the Tampa to Newark flight and she was also helpful and friendly, even though she was off-duty. She got information for us about our connecting flight and showed us where the gate was. I would have no problem in recommending United to anyone, and will definitely be flying with them again.

"staff was incredibly nice"

Trip Verified | Quebec to Newark. The staff was incredibly nice, but they had to follow whatever United airlines policy was. I was in Quebec City, where they speak both English and French. My carry on bag was forcefully checked in to be in cargo and it was not handled delicately, I was not told to take my laptop or valuables out, at least not in English, and my screen cracked in the process. I don't blame the staff, I blame a lack of communication and United Airlines wanting to check people's bags in so they don't have to deal with people needing to get their belongings out. Also, who ever handled cargo almost lost my luggage, I had to wait almost 24 hours to find out if they found it because it was a late transfer to the right connecting flight. From the update I got, it was in Chicago when my connecting flight was from Newark to San Jose.
