"everything to our satisfaction."

(Germany)

Trip Verified | My parents and I flew from San Francisco to Honolulu with United. The flight was operated by a B737 and did not have flatbeds in the premium cabin, but the seats were comfortable enough to sleep during the flight. The crew was very nice and greeted us with an Aloha. As probably everybody else on the plane we were on vacation and everybody on the aircraft was in a good mood. The service and the crew were perfect and I enjoyed my salmon. The departure was punctual and everything was to our satisfaction. I would choose United on my future flights and recommend this airline.

"I am highly disappointed"

(Canada)

Not Verified | Calgary to Flint via Denver / Chicago. I had six different flights. Of the six, 5 left late for a variety of reasons. I am highly disappointed in United Airlines. I had to rush and rush and rush, to get to my gate, and the flight was delayed. I was not pleased by all this lateness.

"United is now my last choice"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Kansas to Frankfurt via Chicago, connecting to Cairo. My wife broke her hip in Jerusalem requiring a hospital stay and an immediate return to Kansas as well as a cancelling of vacation stopovers in Athens and Germany. United charged us an additional $9500 which was approximately the same as what we prepaid for both of our First Class tickets. They would not bargain, at all. As my wife was in great pain and an immediate return to the US was needed I had no choice. I contacted United upon my return to no avail. United is now my last choice for flying overseas. We are returning to Europe soon and have friends there. We always will fly First Class, just not with United.

"an absolute nightmare"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Los Angeles to Pittsburgh via San Francisco. It was a rough trip flying back home to Pittsburgh. My family and I woke up bright and early at 4am to avoid LA traffic. Our flight was originally around 6-7am but then I was notified of a delay. Because we had a layover, we would not make our second flight home. I had to change my flight last minute which was fine because we were only maybe an hour behind schedule. My family and I were finally on our first flight and I was getting ready to sleep for the next 5 hours before landing in DC. I believe it was the autopilot who came on to talk about how they were having issues with the plane but he assured us that they are working on it. First they had the maintenance people come, then there was something about paperwork needing to be signed and finally, the autopilot mentioned that the gas was in the wrong area or chamber. I've sat on this plane for maybe an hour and half and now I'm rushing to call customer service to get me on the next flight ASAP because the flight was cancelled. Apparantly, the next two flight to SF was booked but my family of 3 can be waitlisted in case someone canceled. Did I mention that one man was absolutely going nuts when we all got off the plane? He mentioned something about his brother is on life support. There was also a huge line of people waiting to be waitlisted. However, I manage to book a flight for 12:58pm. At this point, my family and I have been at the airport for 7 hours. Finally, we get on the 12:58pm plane and we land in DC on time for our flight to Pittsburgh. It was storming on and off while on the first plane with plenty of turbulance. We were also delayed on the second flight! I thought they were going cancel our flight due to weather but they didn't and we did manage to get to Pittsburgh around 11-12pm. United Airline actually gave my family $300 for our next flight but the chances of us flying ever again is slim. This whole trip was an absolute nightmare with the delays and cancellation. On top of that, sitting in economy class is the most uncomfortable place to be. Honestly, take some advice from people who make genuinely comfortable lounge chairs with cushions in it please. There was absolutely no support at all and no room on the plane. The only good thing about the flights was that I was given free apple juice. I will never fly again if I can avoid it.

"so far the worst airline"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Newark to Reykjavík. This is so far the worst airline from my experience. The flight was supposed to depart at 10:30pm and it’s delayed for 7 hours. It’s worst of all worst airlines. We were not given any food/water and place to stay. I have decided not to fly through united irrespective of the cost.

"Service was non existent"

(Australia)

Not Verified | Los Angeles to Melbourne. United just don't get it despite what their competition is doing. I've just paid over $8,000 for a business class ticket return Melbourne Los Angeles and get asked to pay for "premium" scotch in their new lounge. We're not talking about top shelf scotch either - try standard 10 yr Glenfiddich at about $50/bottle. For free one can have some bottom of the rung local bourbon. United don't seem to function with anything other than a penny wise, pound foolish philosophy. I am looking forward to booking with Virgin Australia or Qantas for my next similar flight. On the flight over I was underwhelmed by the cramped business class capsule. The seat was comfortable but I'm slim. And I felt that I just fitted into the seat width. Service was non existent. Had to ring the service buzzer twice for water. Never handed out bottles when lights go out like other airlines. Neither did they go around asking selfish passengers to close their window blind when most were trying to sleep with daylight outside. On a 14 hr flight this is detrimental to all the other passengers wellbeing as it made it hard to sleep. There is basically no storage in the capsule in front of one, or to the side. The limited storage is behind and to the side, right where all the cables for headphones and chargers sit. Their business class cabin looks cheap. It is serviced like a cheap budget airline. But they know how to charge like a premier airline. They can't even offer a business class passenger before departing on a 15 hour flight a free scotch. Except you can have a very cheap bourbon. Cheap seems to be their mantra.

"left luggage outside my building"

(United States)

Trip Verified | I was scheduled to fly from Washington DC (IAD) to Newark (EWR) with United Airlines and then continue via SAS from EWR to Copenhagen. Due to weather issues in the greater NY area the United flight was delayed by 6 hours and my connecting flight had left when I arrived at EWR. At IAD I had explained to United agents that my luggage was checked in all the way to Copenhagen, and that I needed guidance regarding if/how/where I needed to pick up my luggage when arriving in EWR. I was simply told to explain my situation to United agents when arriving at EWR. Following guidance from the United flight crew I stood in line for two hours to speak to a United agent at the United EWR customer care booth located next to my arrival gate. When I finally talked to an agent I was asked to go to the United baggage claim booth. After having waited another hour the United baggage claim agent informed me that she had located the luggage, but that I had to wait at least another 5 hours for my bag to be brought to the United baggage claim area. I was then told to show up 8.30 AM the following day to collect my luggage (*note that after arriving at EWR Scandinavian Airlines had manage to re-book me via American Airlines to go to Miami and then via a SAS flight to Copenhagen). By the time United told me to leave without my luggage it was 12.30 AM in the night – 12.5 hours after departing IAD airport. I was offered no hotel options. After having spent 35 min a cab to reach a friend’s apartment in NYC I spent another 30 min in a cab ($150 out of pocket) and returned to EWR 7.30 AM the following day to collect my luggage. A third United agent then told me that they could not locate my luggage in their system and that it likely was with SAS. I was then told that since the SAS office only opens 9 AM the right thing would have been to wait the five hours the previous night. This conversation took 30 secs and it was made very clear that this was not United problem and that I was advised to board my American Airlines flight without my luggage and file a lost luggage complaint with SAS upon arriving in Copenhagen, which I then did. I arrived in Copenhagen 8 am and had to continue straight to my air-bnb and then to the university. At this point I had slept 2-3 hours since my departure at Dulles on the 19th (2 days ago) and I had no new clothes to change into. Upon returning to IAD from Copenhagen on June 24th I still had not received my luggage. After being passed from one United agent to another at IAD I was told that my luggage was at EWR. I filed a lost luggage complaint with United and since received around 10 text messages saying that my luggage was not located. Early morning 12.39 AM on June 27th, while asleep, I get a text by a private company contracted by United stating that they are “attempting to deliver my luggage” and I am asked to call/text to confirm my address. 6.02 AM I write back to confirm my address and I text the private agent to call me before dropping off my luggage. I leave my apartment 6.40 AM only to discover that the private agent had left my luggage outside my building without notifying me.

"inferior International service"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Washington to Frankfurt. United Airlines continues to disappoint, which is why I have not flown them on an International flight for 4+ years. Was attracted by the "hype" of the new Polaris service, but it is much-ado-about-nothing. IAH President's Club is a joke. The beer & wine selection is limited to 1 or 2, or they want to charge $9 for a drink - nice touch after you have paid $5,000+ for a ticket. Food offerings consisted of some trail mix, some cold veggies & some soup. How United believe they can compete with this type of inferior International service is lost on me. No United Execs have apparently never flown on the International competition, or they would be embarrassed to hype Polaris. Flight attendant came around 1 time during the 1st hour of the flight - once. I had a glass of red wine, but when she returned for her 2nd visit, she announced they had already ran out of red wine for the remainder of the flight. This fairly well sums up the entire United approach to their International business class product. Won't fly them for another 4 years.

"continuing ability to disappoint"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Los Angeles to Houston. Yet another dumpy old United plane. Further underscores why I never fly United for my International trips, and rarely fly them domestically. The only consistency with UAL is their continuing ability to disappoint. Both in equipment and service delivery. Even if you have a 1st class ticket it does not gain you entry to the UA Club Lounge, but that is no big loss, since UA's lounges are below mediocre at best. United, like American and Delta, are the best sales promotion tools that International airlines have.

"would choose United again"

(Germany)

Trip Verified | Phoenix-Skyharbour to Chicago O’Hare. My flight departed from Terminal 2, which was a nice and quiet terminal without the regular airport hassle. There was no line at check-in and no line at security control. My flight was early in the morning and I had a light breakfast at the United Club. Interestingly enough, UA operates their won lounge at Phoenix: Staff was nice and the food offerings more than sufficient. It was a nice and calm lounge and the staff was very friendly. Even though it was before noon, the bar was already open and I had a drink or two. Boarding process at the gate was on time and professional, with us boarding in our boarding groups. The flight was good and the Economy Plus seat was comfortable and offered enough space. The A319 was stylish and had leather seats, Wifi and personal entertainment. Friendly crew, tasty food. I cannot complain and would choose United again.
