"don't be fooled"

(United States)

Oakland to Detroit with Spirit Airlines, and don't be fooled. I thought I was getting a cheap flight, but when I just checked in I had to pay $16 for a standard seat and $45 for a carry-on bag! Never again. I paid more than I would have on an equivalent flight on Southwest, which is all inclusive and they don't charge you change fees!

"I will never recommend"

(United States)

Dallas Fort Worth to La Guardia, and Spirit Airlines didn't let us know that the flight was cancelled until we arrived at the airport. They didn't want to help to find another flight but just said to come back next day for a flight. Too much tax charge on baggage. The worst airline experience ever. I will never recommend this airline to anyone.

"not make the same mistake"

(United States)

This would have been our first time traveling on Spirit Airlines, from Kansas City to Las Vegas. Needless to say, it was as unpleasant as could be. We booked this through Travelocity (which they were wonderful to work with) to attend my brothers wedding in Vegas, We were to fly out on a Friday and return on the following Monday. We got checked in, got through security, and sat and waited. Not too long before they were to start boarding, a TSA agent informed everyone that the flight was cancelled. Reason that was given was the pilot had timed out. As we understand about the flight rules, that would have not been a problem, but they were not very helpful in the fact that 150-180 people were left sitting in an airport with one agent giving refunds. Sure, it was offered to possibly book on the next available flight in the morning, but no guarantees that you would get on that flight either. We got on a bus when leaving the airport to take us to our car, and even the driver said that Spirit does this a lot! Needless to say, we ended up going on a different carrier and had a way more enjoyable flight. They spout that they are cheap - once you pay for baggage, seats (if you are flying in a group and want to stay together), food if you want it, and whatever else they want to charge, it is not any cheaper than other airlines that are more established and have better service. I will not make the same mistake twice - so good luck Spirit, I think you will need it.

"never choose Spirit again"

(Canada)

We were flying back home on January 16, 2016 from Fort Lauderdale to Detroit after a week long vacation. It was a foggy morning and I understand the initial 2 hour delay, but then told another 2 hours delay, and then another 1 hour delay and then finally after 5 hours it gets cancelled! Meanwhile it's sunny and not a cloud in the sky. Only options given were a refund or rebook on next available which was 24 hrs from initial flight. We took the next available. Overhead announcements you could hear so many other Spirit flights being cancelled as well! By this time all reasonably priced hotels were booked and only ones that were $150+ were left. Not willing to spend more money on accommodations and taxis we chose to sleep at the airport. So 29 hrs later we finally boarded. What an ordeal! But never again would I choose Spirit again or recommend them to anybody.

"I am currently stranded"

(United States)

I'm writing this from a cafe in Miami, where I am currently stranded because of Spirit. My flight was at 11am this morning and about two hours before we were supposed to leave, we got a very casual email that said the flight was cancelled due to weather and that we had to reschedule our flight home online. We immediately figured that was untrue, considering the fact that it's clear and sunny here in Miami, and equally calm in New York. Not to mention that all other flights to New York were still leaving from the same airport. But since Spirit said it was a weather thing, and not a mechanical issue, that meant they technically did not owe us anything. And that's basically what they repeated to us without apologies while we were on the phone with them for what seemed like decades. They offered to put us on a flight that literally had a 12-hour layover, and refused to cover the cost of another flight we booked out of Miami.

"never fly with them again"

(United States)

I was looking at prices for flights, and Spirit Airlines was the cheapest. Going against my fathers advice, I decided to choose them. Boston to Fort Lauderdale, and after boarding we sat for 4 hours, to be told to get off and an hour later, reboard (with no boarding passes since they collected them, meaning we had to sit in line and have them reprinted). They then said we had to get off again. I am not usually comfortable on a plane as a starting point and knowing that I had to get back on this plane rather than get us a new plane was very uneasing. The flight attendants were nice and did a great job, but the plane was uncomfortable, crowded and has minimal leg room. Well I'm now sitting in Palm Beach airport trying to get back to Boston, and they have delayed our flight now four times. They keep telling us the plane is on the way. Will never fly with them again and it's clear why their reviews are so poor.

"just stranded me here"

(United States)

Phoenix to Medellin via Ft Lauderdale, and now in Ft Lauderdale. Spirit Airlines just stranded me here and cancelled my connecting flight to Medellin - they won't pay my hotel and i may not get to fly till Tuesday. Hotels are full exept for the $150+ 5 star. They claim weather with a straight face while its clear blue sky, not a cloud no wind.

"wasted day at airport"

(United States)

Didn't actually get to fly because the Boston to Fort Myers flight was delayed, and delayed and delayed. Don't actually know if it ever took off because I went home. A wasted day at the airport and a delayed vacation. Not good. I will not book with Spirit Airlines ever again. Only one girl to refund a long line of upset customers. Then waited and waited for luggage. Don't do it. Price might seem low until you don't even get to fly.

"you will pay more"

(United States)

Cancelled Spirit Airlines flight from Ft. Lauderdale to Latrobe citing poor weather conditions - which was not true. Because of ther limited service they were unable to provide another flight home for at least 3 days! Don't fall for the low cost flights. In the end you will pay more by scrambing for another flight with a more reputable airline.

"fly with someone else"

(United States)

Spirit Airlines is the worst airline you will encounter. Flight to Tampa was cancelled at 09:30, even though the flight didn't leave til 2:35 pm. They said the weather caused the cancellation, however it was clear in Tampa and Houston. We we asked where the weather was, they couldn't tell us. Also, we had several other people flying into Tampa on other airlines at the same time, everyone else made it. They said they couldn't get us to Tampa til the next day, so we said cancel the reservation and we will book with another airline, so they fought us on that as well. They wouldn't refund us the full amount. They are extremely unreliable. The baggage weight is 40lbs, so don't expect them to be like every other airline, and once the baggage fees and every other nickel-n-dimeing thing they could pull off, they weren't much cheaper than everyone else! Pay the extra 15 dollars and fly with someone else.
