"a disaster of an airline"

(France)

Trip Verified | Chicago to Paris. What a disaster of an airline - one mistake after another, one 'no' after another and bad hard product to boot. This was the second flight en-route back to Paris. That flight was late a ran to make this flight. Sat down, asked for a cold towel - no, asked for a glass of champagne - no, asked to wash in the bathroom - no. Through out the flight the service was terrible and rude with the exception of one cabin crew who tried to help. The flat bed seat rocked like a baby's cradle and when asked for assistance told, "I'm not an engineer, you need to deal with it". Throughout the flight every time the person next me moved my seat would shudder and move. As you can guess - no sleep into Paris. The crew was just mean and harsh, there was no improvement in the airline since I last flew them 5 years ago. Will not be flying them again - ever.

"paying an unreasonable fee”

(United States)

Trip Verified | Pittsburgh to Chicago O’Hare. I fly weekly for work as a business traveler between Buffalo, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. I live in Chicago. As you can imagine, this leaves little flexibility in my schedule. When I do have a change in my schedule that allows me to get home faster, I try to fly standby or change my flight. Every time I am told there is a $200 or $75 change fee that cannot be waived. Considering I have been traveling every single week for 6 months now, it is extremely frustrating that I am not able to switch flights without paying an unreasonable fee when there are open seats on a flight. I have already paid for my original ticket. United has been able to make this change for me with no problem. If you are a business traveler, do not fly American. When there is a flight delay there is nothing we can do as travelers about it. No compensation, just told to wait 2+ hours. But when we can change flights and open a seat for someone else, time to pay up.

"flight had tons of issues"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Los Angeles to Atlanta. This American flight had tons of issues. Most concerning was that the aircraft came out of maintenance following service with problems remaining. The plane came out of LAX maintenance with non-functional entertainment systems, about which the crew were never notified. Oddly, even though the plane was sitting at LAX, the plane was nearly 2 hours late to the gate. This was a serious problem, because the pilots were set to time out 1 hour and 18 minutes after the original departure time. A series of blunders followed, including a broken fuel pump, which slowed refueling. We ultimately left with under a minute remaining before the pilots would have timed out. I don't like an airline flying by the seat of their pants. The only positive were the flight crew, who may have been the most pleasant crew I have encountered with an airline. However, they weren't able to cover for American's failings here.

"All flights were on time"

(United States)

Trip Verified | New York to Myrtle Beach via Charlotte. 4 flights and 5 airports - JFK, CLT, MYR, DCA, LGA. Superb experience. All flights were on time and on couple of times early. Flight attendants were attentive. A good selection of snacks served and soft and hard drinks offered. Cockpit crew were communicative. Planes were clean and bright. The seats were spa copy's with ample leg space. Boarding was well organized. The only improvement would be to install electric charging sockets on the seats of the Embraer aircraft.

"no TV’s on either flight"

(United States)

Trip Verified | We flew to Hawaii for our daughters spring break this year and our 20th wedding anniversary. We had 2 flights to Hawaii both 6 hours long. From Philly to the Big Island there were no TV’s on either flight. One little screen in the aisle that dropped down and played one stupid movie. Two passes of the beverage cart with a handful of pretzels. American Airlines need to put planes into service that have individual TV’s for flights that are longer than 3 hours. Our red eye home from LA also had no TV’s. Thanks American Airlines from all the people who cannot sleep on a night time flight! I couldn’t even get a pillow and a blanket on my red eye! Last year I flew coach on Lufthansa to Germany and was in row 38. I felt like I was in first class! Free booze the duration of the flight, full dinner served with real plates and silverware that was complimentary, and pillows and blankets, and wait for it! TV’s for every single passenger! American Airlines needs to see how to keep their passengers happy buy making their flight more comfortable and not dumping all their money into Philadelphia Terminal B. Every single seat at every bar, lounge, waiting are had a tablet and a charging station next to it. The place looked like a night club! So much for keeping your passengers on your flights comfortable!

"never fly American Airlines again"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Lafayette to Roswell via Dallas Ft Worth. My Mother and I had our flight cancelled which was fine. So we rebooked. While rebooking we didn't realize that we booked different flights. One on Tueday and one on Wednesday. They are for the same time, different days. We immediately noticed the error and contacted AA. They wouldn't even let us correct the error without paying 200 dollars. This is easily the worst service that I've received from an airline. We are so upset because now my Mom will have to drive 1.5 hours to the airport to pick me up. We will never fly American Airlines again.

"customer service is horrible"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Paris to Atlanta via Charlotte. Never again I will fly my family with American Airlines, after my mom, wife and daughter, missed their connecting flight in Paris because the first one, from Sofia was late they did not put them on another flight till the next day, they spend 8 hrs stuck at the airport. After all they put them in a hotel with no transport to the hotel so they got a taxi, paid for the taxi themselves and the worst is they put them in a room with a complete stranger who also missed his flight, my mom daughter and wife! So they had to get a different room. Also we paid $160 extra to have the first row sits to have more room - didnt get the seats or the money back, customer service is horrible.

"jerking customers around"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Fayetteville to St Louis via Charlotte. Arriving connection aircraft grounded for maintenance then after 1.5 hour delay & crew change, AA team raced to board already irate customers onto aircraft with a maintenance problem just to make it like they were "concerned". Approx 100 fliers strapped in for half hour so pilot could announce can't fix maintenance & the crew will be out of crew rest & need to change too. Approx. Total 5 hours of jerking customers around. Retired pilot here. Totally unacceptable. Never AA again!

"problems are not their concern"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Philadelphia to Boston. If you choose to fly American, expect delays and cancellations. Expect to hear excuses like overbooking, maintenance, or insufficient staff availability. Expect to be greeted by rude customer service agents when you try to make other arrangements. Expect a hard fight to receive any form of compensation for the inconveniences that they inflict on you. Expect to talk to numerous agents on the phone and at the airport, wasting hours of your time, until you eventually (if you have the patience to see it through) find that one person who will take five seconds of their time to help you. Expect some staff members to simply ignore you when you ask them questions. Expect that you will not make it to your destination at the time printed on your ticket. Even if you do make it onto a plane eventually (likely not the one you originally booked) expect it to be very cramped and uncomfortable. I have flown American Airlines numerous times over the past few years. Every time is a struggle. At Boston Logan Airport and Philadelphia Airport especially, the staff simply refuse to help when something goes wrong. They will instead resort to silence or walk away when you try to ask a question. At American Airlines, your problems are not their concern. Getting you to your destination on time is not their concern. Your comfort is not their concern. Their only concern is your money, which they will hold onto even when they fail to provide the services you paid them for.
