Trip Verified | Flew American Airlines from Miami to New York City. Boarded the plane knowing full well we were delayed 2 hours. The pilot waited until everyone was seated to announce it. And to put salt in the wound, no service of any kind. Didn't see an attendant anywhere. Shameful and last time any of my family flies on this trap.

"do not travel economy"

Trip Verified | Dallas to Santa Ana. Warning - do not travel economy in this airline. This means you will overpay, I ended up paying $ 500.00 for a flight I have made in JetBlue numerous times at a price of $97-$140. It guaranties that you will be seated in the last row and in the middle. Even when the plane is empty and they give others better seats free you will not be moved unless you pay extra. If you dare to request to be given another seat they reply “you are group 9 economy.” When I requested an explanation they just said you don’t get to change your seat. Someone booked this flight for me. Do not make this mistake.

Trip Verified | Had a 4 hour layover in Charlotte trying to get to Chattanooga. There was a flight leaving to Chattanooga in 30 minutes and the attendant verified there were 3 unsold seats on board. I was initially informed I could pay $75 to switch to the sooner flight no problem, but when my boarding pass was actually scanned the attendant flatly said I could not get on the earlier flight for any amount of extra cost. This was baffling and stressful, I am mainly upset because no explanation was given as to why I could not board the sooner flight. Sitting here for 4 hours when I know there are empty seats on the sooner flight. Thx AA

"wait 3 hours for a crew"

Trip Verified | New Orleans to Los Angeles. My flight was delayed 3 hours due to the unavailability of a flight crew. While waiting at the gate to board, the pilot announced that we did not have a flight crew available in New Orleans and that we would have to wait 3 hours for a crew to be flown in from Dallas. American offered no compensation for this major inconvenience. I wrote several letters but American just sent a form letter saying how sorry they were!! I am frequent flyer with AA and was offered no additional compensation - not even some extra miles.

"a rude remark from her"

Not Verified | We flew from Puerto Vallarta to Sacramento, with connected flight in Phoenix. We booked 2.5 hours available in Phoenix because we have to go through customs immigration (since flying from mexico). Our Flight from MX was scheduled 5:50pm and 1 hour delayed, we now have to fly at 6:57pm, meanwhile it's 7:25 pm we all seated on the plane and it still didn't move. Because of that we will have maximum 40 min between connected flights. My husband asked staff if possible to let us and others who are in same situation as us deplane earlier, all he got was a rude remark from her. Also after she made sarcastic comment without realizing that I was walking behind him. I'm pregnant, we travel with child and parents, at least I would expect some understanding and respect from crew, instead we got smacked in the face. I will continue review when we arrive to Phoenix.

"concerned about their off time"

Trip Verified | Tampa to Barcelona via Philadelphia. Our flight attendants were more concerned about their off time than our comfort. They asked us to move seats - then we realized they wanted to claim the two rows all the way across in the back for their own lounge. They even made us go down to the middle of the plane to use the bathroom so they could have the one in the back. One was great the other four were awful.

"$200 to change a flight"

Not Verified | What kind of airline makes someone pay $200 to change a flight? Life happens and no one should have to pay more than their ticket originally cost to change a flight even to the next day. My boyfriend and I are flying to see his family and we need to stay an extra day due to something, my original ticket cost more than the day that I needed to change to but in the end other than the $200 per ticket I also have to pay $50 per ticket because It was booked through a third party. Let me tell you something about an airline that puts their customers first, it’s not American Airlines. And honestly I’m not sure how great they do everything else but if I have to pay that much to switch I am never going to book with them again. I booked another ticket with southwest for the day because even though I won’t get my money back for the American airline flight I found a cheaper one overall with Southwest, who isn’t an airline I fly a lot but they have free flight changes so they just got themselves a new and very happy customer.

"experienced so many delays"

Trip Verified | Minneapolis to Charlotte. After experiencing a steady trend over the past several years in upward ticket prices and frequency of delay, I thought it was time to leave a review of American Airlines. I have recently experienced so many delays, resulting in missed connections, that I now find it preferable to fly to an airport 3 hours from my destination and drive the remainder. That is how unreliable airlines have become. Today, my flight has been delayed for two hours (so far), with a series of 3 increasing delay emails that began with a shorter predicted delay. After finding no information online about the reason for this delay (when airlines are usually eager to blame weather so everyone knows it's not their fault) I contacted customer service to inquire as to the nature of the delay. I was told "maintenance issues" after being on hold for over 10 minutes. I am writing this review in part to suggest a number of changes that AA could make to their service to dissuade negative reviews such as this: 1. If a delay is due to something that is the fault of the airline, and not the weather, state this honestly on flight status pages. 2. Maybe offer a voucher or other compensation when delays that are YOUR FAULT exceed two hours. Even something minor—like a seat upgrade or free wifi—would be better than nothing, and deter disgruntled passengers from boycotting your airline (which I am seriously considering at this point in time). 3. Change the "on hold" music to something with slightly better sound quality. Also, we do not need to be reminded of AA advertisements and "Please continue waiting" every 30 seconds. This is incredibly distracting and irritating when people are already irritated. 4. On your website's "Your Trip" section, clearly display the arriving aircraft's departure status, so that customers can click on the delayed flight and see where it's coming from and whether it's departed. This is an incredibly obvious thing that helps patrons gauge how long a delay is likely to last, or whether a cancellation is imminent. Other airlines already do this, but AA forces people to use better flight tracker services to check the status of the arriving aircraft. Unless some of these things change, I will not be using American Airlines any longer, and will recommend all of my friends, family and colleagues do the same.

"treated extremely poorly"

Not Verified | Flight was 8 hours late. No vouchers given or even a simple we are sorry for the inconvenience. Terrible service both at the airport and in flight. After waiting 8 hours to take a flight and already missing my brothers wedding, I was treated extremely poorly and was told that I should pay more attention to putting my bag under my feet than looking at my phone. My phone that I was texting my family on to tell them that I will not make it to the wedding. I will never fly AMERICAN again.
