"IFE system was excellent"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | We flew American Airlines from Dallas Fort-Worth to Las Vegas. Our flight was delayed by an hour and the gate changed to a different terminal. When we got onboard, the friendly flight attendants welcomed us and led us to our seats. The Boeing 787 was very new, clean and spacious. The seat was comfortable and the IFE system was excellent! They served two drink services during the 2 hour flight and they served pretzels about 3 times. Overall I wouldn’t hesitate to fly American again.

"Nothing to complain about"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Richmond to Charlotte. Original flight through PHL was cancelled due to mechanical problems but alternative arrangements were just fine. It's when things go wrong that airline service is truly revealed. I was very pleased with my rebooking and the service I received. I found the American Airlines app helpful. American Airlines made a great vacation possible and I am looking forward to doing it again. Nothing to complain about!

"Frankly the worst airline"

(Hong Kong)

Trip Verified | Frankly the worst airline and a disgrace to the American people for calling themselves American Airlines. They are a horrible representation of our country with their lack of service, lack of care or accountability. My flight from SJC to a connecting flight at LAX landed late. 10mins before the gate was scheduled to close, we were told that our gate had changed. We took off later because we had to wait for passengers to disembark first. At LAX, we taxied for 20mins before the captain decided to inform us of the delay from traffic and light rain. My layover was only 50mins so I only had 10mins to get to my gate by the time I disembarked. I informed ground staff about this to which they just pointed to a massive line at gate 52G which required a bus transfer to Terminal 4. There were many in line who had a connecting flight from LAX to HKG, like myself, but they did nothing to ensure we would make the flight. When myself and others arrived at the gate, AA staff simply shrugged and pointed us to customer service who gave many of the customers attitude. I was "lucky" enough to be booked onto the next flight 24hrs later w/ a hotel. The next day I confirmed with AA staff at the gate twice and customer service that my checked baggage would be on board. They all confirmed, however, it never made it onboard. I had to call incessantly to finally have them track my bag. I finally received my bag 4 days later with items stolen...Lastly, the boarding pass says "gate closes 10mins before flight". AA staff at LAX tried to board us an hour early and close the gate 30mins before takeoff.

"Terrible airline, terrible service"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Miami to New York. Worst experience flying ever. I took this airline to get from Montreal to Lima and back, and on the way one flight was delayed 17h because of mechanical issues before finally getting cancelled which made us miss our 2 connecting flights. The first connection was replaced because it was the same airline, but they didn’t care at all when we called them about the last flight which was booked with LATAM Peru. On the way back security ran very long cuz of government shut down so we only got to our plane 1 minute before the doors closed and we were told that we couldn’t get on and that our seats had been given to someone else. On the way our trip took 48h instead of 16h (and we had to pay for another ticket which later lead to more complications) and on the way back we are currently on stand by but doesn’t seem like we are getting on a flight any time soon. I have never dealt with customer service people that cared less about your situation and had such little empathy especially after Everything they made us go through on the way to Lima and now on the way back as well. Terrible airline, terrible service 0% recommend!

"the worst service I’ve seen"

(United States)

Trip Verified | American Airlines is absolutely the worst airline I have ever traveled through. Every single flight through them was delayed on the trip I had today except the final destination flight at the end of the night, and the cabin service refused to even call the other flight to let them know they had connecting members. This is the worst service I’ve seen in any industry ever, and I will never fly American Airlines again.

"staff is just amazing"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Norfolk to Honolulu via Dallas Ft Worth. Best Flight Attendants I've ever had, they took time for questions they were beyond kind and made sure accommodations were comfortable, they were courteous professionals. Prices are great, Entertainment, and staff is just amazing. I can say that from here on out I'll continue to be a loyal AA customer and I hope this review reaches the staff attending flight A5 from DFW to HNL and AA1998.

"Staff were friendly"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Atlanta to Boston via Charlotte. Absolutely nothing wrong with the in-flight product on this domestic connecting flight. It was an older plane, so seat pitch and recline were reasonable. I suspect the newer layout would be less comfortable. Staff were friendly. Unfortunately they wanted $75pp to be put on the standby list for the sooner connecting flight, which seemed unreasonable as it would only save us 1 hour. Their hold times for phone service were ridiculous (45min+).

"crew can make a difference"

(Spain)

Trip Verified | Amazing how a crew can make a difference in flying the same route. We flew from Barcelona to Miami on Dec 31st on an 777-200. The plane was old but the crew was excellent (flight 113) and in the 9 hour flight we received a pretty good lunch preceded by drinks first and during the flight the crew did not stop passing around snacks and drinks. Shortly before landing we were served a hot snack. On the flight back (112) the crew was rude, hurrying to serve the dinner and then disappeared (the sat on the back of the plane were there were free seats and watched tv or did some knitting!) and never came through the cabin again (seats were full of waste) until the very poor breakfast which they served in a hurry. The plane was far from old and the temperature couldn't be regulated (it was freezing all flight) and there was a terrible noise (a kind of alarm triggered 1 hour before landing) which felt really annoying if not scary.

"crew wanted their rest"

(Argentina)

Trip Verified | New York JFK to Buenos Aires. Very fast check in at terminal 8. Business class lounge ample with good selection of food and drink. First on board. Was offered champagne in a plastic cup followed by newspapers, etc. 10pm flight, not full, departed the gate 30 minutes ahead of schedule. Business class seats comfortable although I do not like the backward facing one I got - not shown on the seat map when I booked - beware. Dinner was rushed through, not very appetizing, but wines good. Got the impression, as usual, that the crew wanted to get on with their rest and ignore the passengers/ customers. Breakfast option of Chili Omelette was weird, to say the least, and not appropriate for most passengers, plus served less than 45 minutes before landing and therefore extremely hurried. No chance of a second cup of coffee. Fruit plate was barely acceptable as most of the fruit was not ripe. In sum, have been on more pleasant transatlantic AA flights with better much service and much better food. Seemed like a different airline. IFE was OK, no current movies, but live TV goo

"one nightmare after another"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Houston to Vail via Dallas Ft Worth. This entire trip was one nightmare after another. On my outbound flight, I sat in the plane at the gate for over 2 hours for a maintenance issue involving some kind of latch in the cargo area. That was frustrating, but I would prefer the plane be safe prior to takeoff, so I accepted it and moved on. My return trip was one issue after another. I was notified of a 2 hour delay about 5 hours prior to the scheduled departure time. While I was never given a formal reason for this original delay, it was suspected to be as a result of weather in other parts of the country. I was understanding but still needed to know how to handle the ticket for my missed connection flight. The attendant at the desk advised me to still remain on this flight and the connection ticket would be handled for me once it was "officially missed." I did so and continued waiting. The plane was delayed for a little longer than originally planned but it did finally arrive at the airport. Unfortunately, yet another plane had maintenance issues and the delay was extended by another 1.5 hours for them to check it out. The departure time was 4 hours and 17 minutes late. I had been rescheduled onto several intermediate flights but, ultimately, missed all connections due to another delay upon arrive at DFW - we were not able to get to a gate so we were waiting in the holding box for an additional 20 minutes. I was finally booked onto the last flight between Dallas and Houston for the night, so I went to the gate to wait the 1.5 hours. While waiting, the flight was "delayed" by 30 minutes, and the shortly after that announcement, it was cancelled altogether. After waiting in line at the AA customer service desk for 30 minutes, I was informed that they had not scheduled a flight crew for that flight, which is why it was cancelled. So I had to be put up in a hotel and fly out the following morning. The airline dropped the ball in numerous ways, but the poor state of their planes is the most concerning. I finally contacted them after it was all finished and requested compensation for the nightmare that I went through and the airline offered me a $100 "goodwill" voucher to fly American again in the next 12 months. I do not accept that as sufficient compensation so I continued emailing back and forth, ultimately ending with a phone call from corporate customer relations saying that this was all that I was entitled to since they provided the service that I paid for - a flight between the two destinations. I am shocked that multiple delays and hours spent in airports waiting for their mechanics to get the planes in fit condition to fly amounts to $100 on an airline that I have no intention of ever flying again if there is any alternative. I've flown Spirit airlines multiples times and had better customer service than American provided. I advise you to steer clear and avoid American Airlines if at all possible. I could have driven the 1200 miles and gotten home before I did by flying.
