"consistently inadequate"

(United States)

Not Verified | Dallas to Fayetteville via Charlotte. A warning to soldiers and their families transferring to Ft Bragg. Do not rely on American Eagle between Charlotte and Fayetteville. They are consistently inadequate and they lack accountability. I recommend using another airline to travel to Raleigh Durham and driving in.

"rude, incompetent staff"

(United States)

Not Verified | Greenville to Phoenix via Dallas. I have flown throughout Europe, the United States, and South America, and they are by far the worst airline ever. I have never seen such rude, incompetent staff in my life and you cannot trust anything they tell you. I opened a credit card and paid $2000 for a discount credit and bonus miles. But if I'd known I'd be spending the credit on a hotel due to my second canceled flight with American, I never would have opened it. On top of this, they did not give me my bonus miles for spending the $2000 and gave us no compensation for hotel or food when our flight was canceled. They misplaced our luggage on both legs of the trip, and due to maintenance issues on our first plane, we missed our connecting flight. They rerouted us to the smallest airport imaginable in Durango, CO for an extra 3 hours while we tried to make it to Phoenix, although we were promised a direct flight when arriving in DFW. Another AA staff member told us her boss would hang her if she messed up at her job (when trying to book us new tickets for our canceled flight - this also took 40+ minutes). If that is how they treat their own workers, it is no wonder the customers receive such horrible service as well. Every one of our flights was delayed, and when one of our flights was canceled, they redirected us to an entirely new destination airport 3 hours away from where we live, yet managed to send our luggage to another airport! In addition, their planes are uncomfortable with no entertainment or power cords for phones. There is so much more to tell, but just thinking about the incompetency of this airline makes my brain hurt. I just want others to know how horrible they are so they will not make the same mistake. If you want to spend the majority of your vacation in an airport/on a plane, book American.

"simply cancel people's flight"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Albuquerque to Charlotte via Dallas. On the flight from Albuquerque to Dallas, we got notification from the app the connecting flight from Dallas to Charlotte was canceled for operation reason and only available options were in next day. AA simply cancel people's flight as soon as they want for no reason! And they are not responsible for any accommodation, simply ask you to take care of yourself with your own cost.

"Very disappointed with the service"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Ft Myers to Charlotte. Very disappointed with the service I received. I will never fly this airline again and will tell others to avoid this airline. After upgrading my seats online to ensure my travel companion and I were seated together, only the second half of the connecting flight was assigned but I was still charged a full amount for preferred seating options on both flights. After waiting half an hour on the phone I was told to come in early to address it at check in. After coming to the airport 4 hours early, we were told it would have to be addressed at the gate. An attendant didn't arrive until 1.5 hours before the flight. When I kindly asked for assistance, he informed me the flight was completely full and said "Oh well, you have a window seat, use that as a bargaining chip."

"pick another airline"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Issues on outbound as well as return flights - lesson learned. Unfortunately AA is not the caliber of airline it probably was in years past. I typically fly Delta with great success however on certain flights I’ve used US Air (now AA) but this last experience was such a cluster that I felt it warranted a review. On our outbound flight from DFW to Colorado Springs our flight was continually delayed as well as with each delay the gates seemed to move as well - at one point it got so ridiculous it became comical. Our departure out of DFW had officially past our originally arrival time in COS. Regardless we rolled with it because hey we’re on vacay and not worth letting it impact our mood. (Keep in mind this delay was not impacted by weather - not sure what the issue was here and they didn’t seem to want to explain) On our return flight out of COS to DFW the flight was cancelled around 3pm for a 4:38 departure. But it gets better from here. We just happened to be first in line to check our bag when the cancellation announcement was made...we thought ok at least were in line already. We step up to the counter and tell the young lady we realize she’s not responsible and we appreciate anything she can do to help us. First offer was best they could do was get us out on. Monday flight (it was Saturday) bc all their flights on Sunday we’re booked. After several concerning questions I got her to agree to explore putting us on another carrier - our options United or Delta. We asked for Delta based on their hub locations and our final destination. Then we were told nothing available. We thought we had seats on a United flight out the next day but still exploring same day departure options we stopped at the Delta counter to see what flights they had - they had options out that evening as well as next day. We went back to American counter spoke to supervisor (with flight info from the Delta rep) and he said he could get us on that flight - he assured us all was good and cancelled our “seat” on United. This is where it got ridiculous - we took our voucher to Delta only to find AA rep never fully finished the booking and we in fact weren’t confirmed and now the seats in United were gone as well. We went back and forth between counters - each only to find the AA reps were not completing the process to truly get their client booked on another carrier and the other carrier flights were now selling out. One AA passenger ended up going to Delta and paying a higher rate to hurry and guarantee her a seat in hopes AA would make it right. This went on and on and on with multiple passengers. Hours later now all flights out of COS Saturday and Sunday were gone and we were then told our only option was to shuttle from COS to Denver at $50 per person, rent a hotel room and get to airport Sunday morning (unconfirmed seats on Delta) and pray we make it home. Thankfully the ticket and gate agents with Delta were empathetic and worked hard to make sure they got us on. I was told at the airport they couldn’t compensate us for any of our out of picket expenses we wouldn’t have to call AA - which I did only for the guy on the other end to be completely rude and inform me I should had taken that up with the folks at the airport and if they told me to call them they then lied. Save your money, time and energy and pick another airline.

"a completely stressful flight home"

(United States)

Not Verified | American Airlines is an absolutely terrible airline. We have had trouble with them on past flights and gave them another chance but nothing like this. In one single day we had both of our flights delayed, one of which was a simple flight from new Philadelphia to Pittsburgh and it was delayed 5 times for a total time of 7 hrs. Every time they delayed it they never updated their monitors. They told us two completely different gates for boarding. The attitude from some of the workers was terrible. And last but certainly not least they lost our luggage (never even put it on the plane) I was told I would be having it delivered to my house first thing in the morning and it is now 3pm and have no call from their driver. We will never fly your airline again nor will I ever recommend your airline to anyone. Thank you for a completely stressful flight home from what should have been the end of a relaxing honeymoon.

"worst airline I’ve ever flown"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Phoenix to Denver. American Airlines is the worst airline I’ve ever flown. My boyfriend and I are on the same itinerary, and instead of seating us together have to upgrade to be able to select our seats. Customer service sucks. On the way to Denver, we arrived at least 20 minutes prior to cutoff time for bag drop off. The attendant told us to wait for her. We waited almost over 10 minutes as she was the only attendant and she literally did nothing. At that point when we were tended to, she told us that the bags couldn’t be loaded and she would have to rebook us on July 4, where there were practically no seats on standby. In comparison to other companies like Jetblue and Southwest, American is not very savvy to the customer experience. It almost seems like their planes - outdated and too tired to care. Big doesn’t necessarily mean better. Amenities are meager. No internet (jetblue and southwest offer). Stupid snacks. Please give fresher, more updated and less monopolizing airlines a chance.

"have never seen anything as ridiculous"

(United States)

Trip Verified | American Airlines is a total joke. My flight, flight 251, from Miami to New York (JFK) was cancelled on Sunday, July 7th, 2019. Because of their incompetence, I had to spend an extra day in Miami in the hotel at my own expense and then spend $1,500 to purchase a ticket to New York on Delta Airlines on Monday, July 8th. I was put in on standby to La Guardia airport and that is where my bag currently is and I have to waste my time now and go to La Guardia airport in order to pick up my luggage. If I were to stay with what you were offering me in terms of re-booking, I would not get into New York until Tuesday, July 9th and I had to fly through Norfolk. Then one of the customer service agents at Miami offered to fly on Monday, July 8th from Miami to Key West, from Key West to Charlotte and then from Charlotte to La Guardia. I have never seen anything as ridiculous as this and AA customer service employees at Miami are terrible and no help at all. There were about 180 people placed on standby to New York, there was no chance that any of us would make it to New York on Sunday. I will never in my life fly with American Airlines again unless they compensate me back my $1,500 back which I had to spend because of their incompetence and inability to run the airline efficiently.

"avoid flying them again"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Dallas Ft Worth to Detroit. I will do my best to avoid flying them again. We were forced to sit on the plane at the gate for over an hour in the Texas heat. The plane was hot to say the least. The flight attendant started serving drinks in 1st class (alcohol). After she made her round through 1st class, I hit the call button. Flight attendant came over. I asked her for a drink (included in my upgraded seat). She responds, I can't because we would run out. I asked to purchase 1 & was also refused. (I'm 100% sober). Fast forward to us finally in the air. 1st class had snacks, towels, earphones & 2nd round of drinks. Hit the call button & here comes the flight attendant. I asked for a drink & was told I had to wait another 10-15 minutes. At this point it had been almost 2.5 hours on the plane. We ended up over a hour late to our destination. I missed my ride & had to get an uber. Which took forever! Which only made me get checked into my hotel at 3:00am. This is causing me to miss work!

"greed and poor management"

(United States)

Not Verified | Miami to Tampa. I was cancelled by these jerks on Sunday and had to drive home from Charlotte (10 hours). I am now stuck in Miami because their plane is not working. This used to be the best airline. Now they are the worst. Two days, one cancel and a possible second cancel. Do not fly American. They are overpriced and their equipment apparently is old and needs to be replaced. One more example of corporate greed and poor management.
