"outstanding service and hospitality"

Trip Verified | Miami to San Francisco. I usually don’t write reviews but I had to on this flight. I am a former Marine, OIF & OIF Vet and I don’t do too well to confine places too long, but the flight crew Tim and Fay were outstanding and they really took care of me and my family. It was the best service I have had on a flight and I’ve had many. So thank you for your outstanding service and hospitality and it really makes a difference.

"never fly this airline again"

Trip Verified | I was supposed to fly out at 5 am on my way to Syracuse. 3.5 hours before the flight is scheduled to leave they cancel the flight because of mechanical issues. Are you kidding me? It's the first flight of the day and you couldn't get the maintenance done overnight? What kind of incompetent airline allows that to happen? I hadn't flown these guys in years because of poor customer service but they were the only ones who could get me to Syracuse at the necessary time. Needless to say I will never fly this airline again.

"Terrible service and pathetic quality"

Trip Verified | El Paso to Dallas Ft Worth. This airline used to be great but lately it is worse than even the cheapest airline in the market. We flew American and experienced a delay that caused us to miss our connecting flights which in turn made us arrive 5 hours later than expected to our destination. Not only that but our flight just got delayed so much that it made us miss our connecting flight and now we are schedule to depart in 19 hours! As if it weren't enough their customer service was also terrible. You would expect that the least they could do was too book our next flight (19 hours later) with seats that would be next to each other but even that request wasn't granted! Terrible service and pathetic quality for an airline.

"go on my cruise with no luggage"

Trip Verified | I have flown with AA twice in the last 18 months and both times my luggage has been misplace. The first time I was luckily on my way home from miami so the impact was minimal. However the second time was when I was on my way to a cruise from Ronald Regan Airport to Miami international. I had to go on my cruise with no luggage and to add insult to injury I spent almost 14 hours in total during my vacation just sitting on hold trying to speak to someone so that I could know the whereabouts of my luggage. I was unable to attend multiple events on the cruise due to my lack of attire which absolutely ruined my vacation which I planned year in advance. I am back home and no one has reached out to me regarding my lost luggage. I think the worst part about this airline is there lack of responsiveness. I filed a complaint with customer relations I have also filed a claim for the details of my belongings and I have yet to receive a call or an email from anyone. When I speak to a representative they are quick to pass me along to the next person. They have no empathy nor do they have the proper customer service training that would of made this experience a little more bearable. American Airlines is right up there with Spirit and Frontier. Do not fly with them if you can avoid it, and if you can’t do not check your bag. Make sure you bring it as a carry on.

"Horrible experience"

Not Verified | Paris to Los Angeles. Horrible experience. Took forever to get our luggage. Food was terrible. As an American first time flying with American Airlines and maybe the last. They also took so long to depart for no reason whatsoever.

"Rude, incompetent and pathetic"

Trip Verified | Cusco to Grand Cayman via Lima / Miami. Awful. They lost my baggage. It's been 2 days and they have no idea where it is. Had the nerve to lecture me about packing a carry on for important items when I called to check on my claim?? Rude, incompetent and pathetic customer service.

"The worst airline"

Not Verified | San Antonio to Phoenix. The worst airline. It used to be something worth using, used to. I've flown American twice now in the last two months. My first flight, departure was only 15 minutes late, but the return flight was over a 4 hour delay due to "maintenance." A total nightmare when you have a child and planned naps. Not only that but they didn't try and offer any compensation for it. The second flight, most recent, the departure was over a 2 hour delay due to "bird strike" whatever the hell that is. And the return flight was over an hour delayed due to "maintenance." They left the plane off for about 30 minutes with everyone boarded! No AC and multiple babies on the plane sweating. It wasn't until several people complained that they did anything about it (turned on the air). I had hoped to give them a second chance but they suck.

"The whole thing is very sad"

Trip Verified | Chicago to Budapest via Philadelphia. After planning a once in a lifetime trip to Europe with my wife, American Airlines turned it into a nightmare from the start. Our first flight to Budapest was canceled and their solution was to send us to Paris 9 hours later (lost day #1) and then the next day to Vienna (lost day 2) Well, then there was. Huge ripple affect. The car we had reserved in Budapest was no longer an option, since we were no longer going there...so we had to rent in Vienna, twice the price since we did not have a reservation and they were out of cars. Oh, did I mention that our luggage still went to Budapest but no one could find it for 3 days. We had to drive to Budapest to get our own luggage (days 3,4,5 lost) we had other flights to Venice and then to Rome from Budapest all missed because of their canceled flight... this crazy story has many more chapters but Sadly the bottom line is. They "do not reimburse for all that we went through" they offered us 3 vouchers 275$ each, as some sort of apology. And after looking at prices that barley covers a one way flight by American! They only sent us one voucher, and now no one will respond to me. Only an automated email!! The word "American" means Much than they could ever measure up too. They need to rethink this patriotic name, or raise their game to represent all the Americans they serve. My wife and I are both teachers so this truly was a once in a lifetime trip and now we have to live with this nasty aftertaste left by a airline who shares our country's name, but can not live up to other major airlines let alone the nation they think they represent. Side note.... if we had the option to give up our seats at any time, I guess we would have gotten 500$ vouchers. Sad, lack of priority's. The whole thing is very sad.

"I will fly any other airline"

Not Verified | Phoenix to Vancouver. Charged 3 baggage charges of $70 which I thought would be covered when using my newly acquired credit card which I cancelled when I returned home. Then one of the bags was lost anyway. The Kiosks at the Phoenix airport were non-functional and the attendant was quite put-out when we asked for help. She had to use another kiosk to print out our baggage tags. Seats were very uncomfortable. In the future, I will fly any other airline available to avoid American!

"Awful, flight cancelled"

Not Verified | Evansville to Houston. Awful, flight cancelled. Trying to get to MD Anderson to a family member with lymphoma. Wouldn’t refund or transfer my ticket. Agent was beyond rude and showed no compassion to the situation. Several other friends and family tried to fly American Airlines to stay with the the family member. Same thing. Flight cancellations/delays. We all said we’ll drive to Louisville or St. Louis and take Southwest Airlines.
