"flight was delayed 3 times"

Not Verified | Charleston to Seattle. A ticket was purchased about 2 months in advance. Departure times verified. On 23 Aug 2019 I was to take off from Charleston WV to North Carolina and then home to Seattle . My flight was delayed 3 times. Customer service indicated that it was due to weather (research indicates that is not accurate). Customer service representative indicated that this was due to lack of flight personnel to fly. I was rebooked on a flight for 24 Aug 2019 at 4:35 AM. This flight was as well delayed. Landing in Chicago I was forced to miss my connection and placed on standby for the next flight out. My husband purchased a one way first class ticket for me to depart Chicago at 5 PM. I later found out that American Airlines had rebooked me on the 5 PM flight as well. I cancelled the 1st class ticket and received e-mail traffic confirming that the ticket was cancelled. My credit card statement shows the flight but no refund.

"they leave you stranded"

Trip Verified | Mexico City to New York. Never flying with American Airlines again. They continuously leave my partner and I stranded due to them never making their connecting flights. We never have a problem with other airlines and if we do they hold themselves accountable. AA just has this "well that's too bad, we cant do anything" attitude towards their customers. I find myself saying "Jet Blue would never". Seriously they will miss their connecting flights due to needing to land the plane at a different airport to get fuel and somehow tell you "well we didn't make the connecting flight due to weather and that just isn't our fault" and then tell you they have no more flights until you hound them and still the wait will be over 8-9 hours. This isn't the first time AA has done this to us but it will be the last. This disgustingly unprofessional airline isn't worth the trouble and even when their connecting flights seem like a steal price-wise you end up paying for it when they don't make it on time and they leave you stranded.

"narrow cramped seats"

Trip Verified | San Antonio to Chicago. Majority of the time my flights and everyone I know that has flew American has a delayed flight due to maintenance. No back up aircraft available so delays are hours if not canceled. Most aircraft is old and has no outlets for charging. We all carry electrics now days and need to keep them charged. The new aircraft have more narrow cramped seats with no leg or hip room. I'm small compared to most adult so that is ridiculous. Also the seats are tilted forward which make you feel like your sliding out of an already uncomfortable seat. 1 out of 2 staff is rude and in accommodating when trying to change to an open seat that no one will be flying in. Yes people pay more to ensure they have a reserved seats of their preference but if it's empty just prior to boarding why not allow others to take an open seat. I will not choose to fly American if I have other options.

"not early enough at the gate"

Trip Verified | Paris to San Francisco via Dallas with my daughter. We had valid boarding pass and when we go to gate, we found that our seats were sold somebody else and denied boarding on the basis that we are not early enough at the gate. No attempt made to announce our names when gate was change from A51 to A38. Gate manager and staff handled customers badly. We were required to spend the night on airport and return home on another flight which cost me $3000 one way ticket much higher than my original return flight.

"other carriers more reliable"

Trip Verified | West Palm Beach to Dallas. Wish I never dedicated myself to this airline. You spend as much time on the ground experiencing mechanical issues, gate issues and lack of crew showing up. I had my company fly me on Delta and United the last 3 months - 3 issues out of 22 flights amongst these two carriers. I’m on my 6th flight back on American, out of the six 2 delays (45 mins or more and one cancellation). I only write this because I’m stuck on this airline as Executive Platinum, don’t get stuck like me - I love the first-class upgrades but other carriers 10 times more reliable offer the same. Good luck!

"everything is subpar"

Not Verified | Toronto to Ft. Smith via Dallas. American Airlines is by far the worst airline out there. Absolutely everything is subpar. Service, flight attendants, flight delays. You name it, it's bad. I'm currently sitting through a three-hour delay and not getting home until tomorrow morning. This happened with my last flight as well. Never flying with them again.

"ridiculous 12-14 hour journey"

Not Verified | I booked a family trip originally on December 3 for our family of 7 with an infant to Portland out of Detroit, Mi. It was schedule to leave out of Detroit at 6:10 am with a short layover in Charlotte, NC and arrive in Portland 12:06 pm. Not bad, 6 hours and we would have been to our destination. Early in 2019 American Airlines informs me that they had randomly re-booked our trip to some ridiculous 12-14 hour journey with 6 plus hour lay overs. I spent an hour or so on the phone with a representative to re-book new flights for all of us that made more sense. Our first flight was delayed due to Maintenance issues that caused us to have to re-book because of a missed connection in Chicago. We now had to fly from Chicago to Philadelphia and then to Portland. The flight out of Chicago, was also delayed due to maintenance issues which caused us to miss our connection to Philadelphia on flight. We had to rebook again to a later flight which put us in Portland Maine finally at around 11 pm. I contacted American Airlines about my complaint and wanted to give me 100 dollar voucher with no apology! Honestly $100 voucher is not worth the risk of giving American Airlines another opportunity.

"never fly this airline again"

Not Verified | Dallas Ft Worth to San Diego. Here we go again on American airlines plane issues my wife's entire trip has been a joke. If she ever makes home trust and believe we'll never fly this airline again. Since I work at DFW I see this all day every day. Wake up America stop flying with this joke of a company.

"very uninterested in helping us"

Not Verified | This review has nothing to do with my last flight. It has to do with the inflexibility of American Airlines with their customers. The American Airlines employees are very rude and very unwilling to help. They will immediately react in a negative way when a customer tries to receive a little flexibility. In this case I am having to cancel a trip due to Hurricane Dorian which is hitting Puerto Rico tomorrow and coming to Miami this weekend. My trip was with another executive who also had to cancel his trip due to his flight leaving from PR. I called AA and only asked them to honor my ticket for another time this year and they denied my request. My trip was due to return this coming weekend of 08/30/19 at the exact time the storm or hurricane will be passing through Miami, Florida. The two employees and the supervisor we spoke with in order to resolve this were very uninterested in helping us resolve this issue. What I see is that American Airlines does not care about the clients and does not respect loyalty to their company and brand. All they care about is squeezing the last dollar amount that a client may have when a bad situation like this comes about. I can honestly say that American Airlines is probably the worst airline in the US because they do not value their customers.

"no concern for paying customers"

Not Verified | American Airlines knew a bunch of us were going to miss the flight to PCB, FL due to bad weather in Dallas Fort-Worth and the plane left regardless. The next flight was 8 hours later! You would think they could have held the plane a few minutes longer allowing us to get on. Rebooking was a long and tedious process. I had to call, it wasn't automatic. They have no concern for paying customers.
