"do not fly American Airlines"

Trip Verified | Seattle to Paris via Dallas. First and last time we ever fly American Airlines. Both flights to and from our destination were delayed. The first flight was delayed “due to weather”, which is ridiculous because the weather was actually fine, the bad weather happened the day before. When we discovered this we told it to the employees and they said they were still catching up, though ALL other airlines were already flying on time. Because of “bad weather,” AA stated they were not responsible for any incurred expenses to us from the delay. We had to stay overnight in Dallas, had to pay for our own hotel, got no reimbursement or even a small upgrade on our next flight. Not even offering us a complimentary drink or anything. Customer service is horrible. On the flight back, there was also a delay and this time NO explanation was offered but they rerouted us which added a 5 hr layover and a longer connecting flight. Overall we lost a whole day on our already short trip to Europe, lost hundreds of dollars from having to pay for a hotel in Dallas and missing a day in our prepaid accommodation in Europe. The trip was exhausting and stressful. Save yourselves and do not fly American Airlines.

"a day of absolute hell for me"

Trip Verified | Bangor to Albany via Philadelphia. I arrived at Gate 4 at Bangor ME to depart for Philly at 5:10 where I was greeted by 2 people, a female standing at the counter, and a tall gentleman, who had both seen me scurrying toward them after a delay at security in this small airport. When I arrived at the counter the man moved to the open doorway/tunnel to the plane and stated "you need to stay back" . I am 58 years of age, 5'5", 108 pounds. He was very tall and sounded quite aggressive. The female then stated that I would not be permitted to board. I asked her why and she stated "You had to be here at 5:10". I looked at my phone and stated "it is 5:10 (I show her my phone) and I checked in online as well. She then stated "NO, it's 5:11, I have been watching my clock. The gate to the plane was still open, the tunnel in place, and the plane had not left the ground. I explained that I am a caregiver to my ill husband and this is simply not possible as I was checked in online and had arrived within the time limit. She stated, and I quote "no, and my boss was here to see it" (my 5:11 am arrival, she watched her clock!) I was on stand-by and able to leave Bangor at 5:45 a.m. but what ensued, a nightmare. Redirected from Wash/DC to Philly/PA and from Philly to Alb, NY., no flight until 3:30 p.m.I sobbed at the counter, and in panic, searched for an earlier flight from my phone only to find that I could buy a seat from this very same airline on an 11:30 instead of 3:00 p.m. I returned, again went through security, and found someone to help me change the ticket to the 11:30. What happened with American Airlines at Bangor, ME International Airport was despicable. They held me up at the counter waiting for the clock to strike 5:11, which, I surmise, is due to having given my seat away. It created a day of absolute hell for me and my family. Thanks American.

"Absolutely horrible service!"

Trip Verified | Absolutely horrible service! Many delays and the flight attendants were too busy talking about the airline and how they where they paid and the flight they were scheduled for sucked. This was my second time flying with them as this happened many years ago also. Due to needing a quick flight for a medical emergency and the time that had past since I last flew with them, I figured I’d give them another try - worst mistake I made, and never again!

"drive or take Amtrak"

Not Verified | Greensboro to Wichita. Terrible, absolutely horrible! My brother is a 30-year pilot with this Airlines. That is why I decided to go with it. I have flown with Delta, United even TWA back in the old days and Braniff Airlines. I have never seen an airline change their flight status so many times. Not only did they cancel a flight on me. But they continued to screw around and caused me a great deal of hardship over it was supposed to be just a simple flight from Greensboro to Wichita. They also have cost me over 27 hours due to the canceled flight in Wichita last night. I have been waiting to go back home now 27 hours to Greensboro. I could have taken an Amtrak train and gotten there quicker. My wife it's a first-time flyer. She is totally bombed with flying now! Rightfully so American Airlines really jerking people around. They also owe me two days parking now that I left my car at the airport - that's another $16 plus the $ 40 I spent on food unnecessarily while waiting on my flights. Do yourself a favor - drive or take Amtrak.

"worst experience"

Not Verified | Austin to Charleston via Charlotte. Worst airline I have ever seen. Travel time 40 mins and they took 1 hour to find the gate. After going on to the runway they mentioned 2 checkups no been done and after an hour they said one engine is not working. Overall worst experience. Don’t ever fly with American Airlines

"I can’t bring my luggage in"

Trip Verified | Charlotte to Dallas. I was boarding the plane and the lady in the front told me I needed to make sure my luggage fit. So I did that. Of course it dint because no luggage fits on that thing. So they told me they had to take my bag I said it fit on the last plane and that was a small plane so I asked the lady is it a small plane? She said it was - that was a lie it was a big plane which I knew so I said well I want to try it. I then continued to argue with the person who said that since they had already printed out a ticket for my luggage that it had to go (that’s not my problem) so then i was made to leave my luggage. My question now is why does American make me have to check my luggage when all the other ones where my same size and they just don’t have enough head bin space at the top to allow more bags so of course instead of telling you that they would rather lie and come up with an excuse as to why I can’t bring my luggage in.

"by far the worst airline I have ever flown"

Not Verified | American is by far the worst airline I have ever flown. First $30 to check 1 bag. Then I paid a total of $66 dollars to upgrade my seats. Then the airplane is here on time at 2.30pm in Tampa but the crew is not. So I will miss my connecting in Dallas because now they won't leave for another 2 hrs. So now leaving for Philly but not for another 4 hrs. So flight doesnt leave Philly until 9pm, should arrive into Phoenix now at 11.30pm. Just a complete poor show and guess what, on both flights I'm in the very back in the middle. They won't refund for money spent already to upgrade seats. This will be the last time this airline screws me.

"Flight has been delayed 9 times"

Not Verified | Tampa to Charlotte via Pittsburgh with American Airlines. Flight has been delayed 9 times (so far). We've had to change our connecting flight twice which has put us back 5 hours. No apology or explanation and the staff is rude. They dont care about customers. We are currently still stuck at the airport. I will never fly American Airlines again.

"delayed both flights"

Not Verified | Dallas to Louisville. Worst airline company for wanting to make it anywhere on time. They have delayed both flights, waited 5 mins before flight was to board to let anyone know and then say it’s a 2hr delay. How can you not know something that big of a delay ahead of time?
