Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport Terminal 2 becomes the first airport in mainland China to be awarded 5-Star Airport Terminal ranking

17th January 2014 - London, UK

Terminal 2 at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is the first airport in mainland China to be awarded the first 5-Star Airport Terminal ranking, following the latest audit review conducted by Skytrax, the independent, global air transport rating organisation based in London, UK.

Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax said: "We have been evaluating quality standards at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport for several years now, and it is with great pleasure that following the most recent Audit review in December 2013 we can now announce the 5-Star Terminal Certification for this airport. Hongqiao International Airport becomes the first airport in mainland China to receive this most coveted quality ranking, which recognises the many improvements that have been made to achieve world-class standards here at Terminal 2."

Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is the main domestic airport serving Shanghai, which also operates a limited number of international flights from Terminal 1. It is located closer to the city centre than Pudong Airport, Shanghai's main international airport.

Terminal 2 at Hongqiao International Airport was completed in 2010, and is part of the Hongqiao Comprehensive Transportation hub being directly connected to Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station which has a total area of 1.3 million square meters approx and 16 platforms, most of which are high speed rail configuration.
