Flight Report: London to Frankfurt on Lufthansa

October 15, 2015 Category:

Lufthansa A321 aircraft

DEPARTURE AIRPORT
Having checked in online and travelling with hand luggage only, went through FastTrack security at Heathrow Terminal 2 in less than 5 minutes, and it was just a 2 minute stroll from there to the Lufthansa lounge.

AIRLINE LOUNGE
Lufthansa business class lounge at Heathrow still has a new feel to it, quite spacious and clean at this time of day. Went through to the Senator lounge section, also crowded, but able to find seats easily. A great choice of breakfast foods is laid out, hot and cold, and all is to a very high standard – the catering is do0ne by DO&CO who are probably one of the best airline caterers worldwide.

AIRPLANE
Airbus A321, Business class 75% full and Economy cabin about 95% full.

CABIN FLOWN
Business Class

BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE
Business Class permits 2 x carry-on baggage up to 8kg each, plus 2 x 32kg checked luggage

THE SEAT
Sat in 4D, an aisle seat in business class. This cabin has a seat layout of 2×2 (3×3 seats with the middle left empty). Comfortable enough for a short 1hr 15mins flight, but would not want to fly more than 2.5/3 hours in these seats.

CABIN & TOILETS
The cabin and seats were clean, seat pockets with airline magazine, safety card etc. Single toilet at front of business class was clean.

SCHEDULE
An early morning departure from Heathrow (07.30), the flight pushed back a little early and departed close to schedule. Arrival into Frankfurt was 15 minutes early, but any advantage was lost by being parked a long way from the terminal and passengers being bussed.

FOOD AND DRINK
A cold breakfast was served, accompanied by warm croissant and rolls. Juices and tea / coffee offered once, but no refills seemed to be available. Food was quite adequate for such a short flight, and of a reasonable quality.

Business Class breakfast (LHR to FRA)

ENTERTAINMENT
No IFE is offered on these aircraft. Business class customers are offered a choice of English or German magazines (eg: Newsweek, Time etc) and newspapers at the beginning of the flight.

STAFF SERVICE
Friendly welcome offered by 2 cabin staff positioned by entrance door. Safety demonstration was conducted clearly and safety checks seemed okay. Inflight the service was prompt and courteous, albeit quite limited with just the breakfast tray service and subsequent cabin tidying.

ARRIVAL SERVICE
An early landing into Frankfurt required a long taxi to an off-ramp parking position, from where we were bussed to Terminal 1 arrivals. Process added about 15 minutes extra to normal airbridge arrival times.

VERDICT
Having purchased a one-way business class ticket at reasonable cost, the service on this short flight was to a good standard and would certainly use again. The price difference above Economy class was well worth it for the baggage allowance, seat allocated at reservation, use of the Lufthansa lounge and enhanced onboard comfort during the flight.

This flight report is based on fully paid tickets, not airline discounted or complimentary tickets.
