Zagreb Airport

I arrived at this airport from Istanbul on 21st August. Zagreb airport is small and clean. The immigration hall and arrival area could be crowded when there are 2 flights arrive at the same time. The bus to the city centre is safe and efficient with a reasonable charge. The staff I have encountered were generally helpful.

Duty free overpriced otherwise reasonably stocked. Food and beverage prices way to high. Efficiency of staff at arrivals and departures both domestic and international very commendable. Easy to get around and clean.

A small and easy to use airport quite relaxed and calm feel to the place. On arrival bussed to terminal to clear Passport Control with minimal queues and Baggage Reclaim was quick and in just a few steps out in the Arrivals Hall. Return equally smooth minimal queuing at Check-in and Security. Quick Passport Control. In International Departures there is a reasonably stocked Duty Free offering a range of things including some local items and coffee shop. Bussed out to the aircraft and relatively quick departure.

Excellent small-size airport. It used to be dark and 1970s looking now it's been refurbished offering many services considering its size. Found information desk lacking professionalism. No waiting time whatsoever at check-in a couple of minutes at security and immigration done right away. Once I arrived my baggage was delivered quickly from the plane I even saw it on the conveyor belt while still clearing immigration.

On departure could not make online check-in so had to wait in line for about 15 mins. Noticeable longer lines at the peak times than few years ago. Efficient and friendly check-in agent. Boarding passes issued but was directed to over-sized check-in counter due sports equipment I was carrying to finish the process. Arrival on one of the last flights of the day quick through immigration and luggage was waiting on the belt. From landing to taxi it took less then 15 mins. It's a small regional airport with basic services so expectations would be set accordingly.

Arriving was quick and easy perhaps due to a late hour and very few flights at that time. There was only one immigration desk but two officers manning it were efficient and all of passengers were through in few minutes and luggage was waiting. Departure wasn't as good experience through. Check-in was slow and little disorganized. The international departure lounge way too small for the number of flights. We had a small delay but no information or explanations were provided.

I made the mistake of arriving too early at this airport and by going straight through to departures. There is practically nothing there and I sat for 90 mins. To call it an international departure lounge is a joke. It's a medium size room which gets hopelessly overcrowded if more than two flights are due to take off. One inadequate poorly stocked cafe in the middle of the room which provides just two tables and chairs plus the usual ridiculously overpriced duty free shop.

I had to transit through Zagreb flying with Croatia Airlines from London to Pristina. There was a 50 minute transit window and it was a shambles. It is obvious Croatia Airlines has a hub system my flight arrived at 1405 and it appeared a few other flights had just arrived and there were certainly a lot departures happening within minutes of each other. On arriving at the arrivals there was a transit channel of which passengers had to go through security screening. There must have been at least 40 passengers waiting to go through security. However there was only one operative to operate the single x-ray machine and deal with people going through the metal detector this was a joke. Some manager then came along and decided to let all the passengers just go straight through with screening. This really was a shambles. I can't comment on anything else on the airport as I did not have time to do anything except use the toilet.

Certainly the worst airport whenI was in it. The passport control was very slow. The check-in area is very small - with 3 or 4 flights it becomes chaotic. Near the departures doors we find just one bar (and a small one). Croatia is a fantastic country that deserves a much better airport.

The airport gives a rather bad impression of Croatia for the travellers arriving in Zagreb. Every time I fly into Zagreb I have to spend a minimum of 1 hour waiting in line for the passport control with only 1 or 2 officers working and checking the passports and visas of the arriving passengers. They were also rather rude including customs officers. The very first time I arrived in Zagreb while waiting for my luggage about 90% of the passengers lit up cigarettes which was almost unbearable. However the most recent ban on smoking in public places in Croatia eliminated this issue.
