Vienna Airport customer review

The most absurd and least customer friendly airport I know especially if you need to change flights. The extreme nonsense is the First terminal. Moving walkway only in one direction narrow stairs poor services. If you have any difficulty walking avoid it. Avoid it anyway if you have to change flights.

The Fawlty Towers of airports. Obviously Basil thought multiple levels linked by hidden badly sign-posted narrow escalators would be a great idea as well as making sure the floors of the old and new terminals were at different heights (15 stairs I think). The comedy potential of lost stressed passengers and their luggage is unlimited. Then again maybe it was Manuel who thought throwing glitter on a well oiled machine would make it run smoother. Massive architectural fail.

BKK-VIE and back. Most confusing airport for navigation - having 3 "Check-in" parts of the airport is not well laid-out. So difficult to clearly know how to get to the Arrivals terminal/Parking House from top floors. Lifts not indicated clearly at all. Nav to public transport CAT/S-Bahn was very good though. Lots of signs are unclear. Baggage storage quite expensive. Limited restaurants which provided diversity of cuisine. Most shops quite expensive except Billa and Spar. Not good for transiting passengers as I saw many got stressed. Hope this airport can be improved.

This is the most disorganized unordered airport I've seen in 30 yrs of frequent travel. You must re-check in even if making a connection. People are curt and unfriendly! Never again!

Transited through Vienna airport on 12/08/2014 on way from Larnaca to London Heathrow with Austrian Airlines. It helps that on Austrian Airlines flights that the IFE system is used to inform transiting passengers of the gate number that their connecting flight is departing from. With that knowledge and the airport plan map in the in- flight magazine it's very easy to understand where you need to get to on arriving in the terminal before you even leave the aircraft. There is clear signage and displays to aid transiting passengers in the terminal. 1 security screen on arrival handled quickly by pleasant staff. Toilet facilities are plentiful and clean. Walkways are wide. There is plenty of seating at the departure gate. Free Wi-Fi in departures at VIE. The usual shops selling food and non-food items at ridiculous prices. Boarding gate staff were pleasant and professional. Baggage was transferred from incoming to outgoing flight without problem so well done to them. I'd happily transit through Vienna again.

Vienna used to be a pleasant airport until terminal 3 was opened. This has made everything worse for the passengers long ways through small corridors going up and down on narrow stairs chaos at boarding areas for larger planes no separate entrance for business class at boarding. Passengers arriving don't know they have to take stairs up the signalling is also bad. The way to the taxis and airport shuttles is much longer now. The lounges are far away from the gates. Have the people who designed this never seen an airport like Zurich? It's a pity so much money so badly spent.

In one word: chaotic. The airport's terminals are too far apart. If you are using Vienna as a hub to a US flight you really have to be fit; since you have to run at least 15 mins non-stop to reach the G terminal. It used to be a shuttle transfer from the arrival to G gates but this was not the case last couple times. Another important thing to know about Austrian Airlines ground staff. They are extremely rude and incompetent. Oh and they have no shame about lying to your face to cover their mistakes while registering for a transatlantic flight. Probably the best thing about the airport is the free internet.

In transit LHR-VIE-TLV 8th/17th April. Not bad for a non-Schengen transit passenger but the G-gate shopping could be a lot better and also the signage.

I know the terminal 3 is not the best. But the waiting times are not long in any situation and the ways are really not long at all (not like Paris CDG). The aircraft's arriving mostly on time and the taxi times are also not long (maximum about 10 minutes). The airport is also very clean and the temperatures are okay. So I can recommend this airport.

Has the architect of the new terminal ever seen any of the world's newer airport terminals like Frankfurt Barcelona Madrid Hong Kong Singapore (T3)? No certainly not I would say. No walking area no decent shopping area no waiting area no transit connection to other terminal. Real ugly architecture (floor with covers every few meters narrow gate exits looking like foxholes narrow escalators confusing ways for transit passengers (up down up always crowded and one cannot walk past other slower passengers. One feels like in cage always everywhere. Stay away. It's clear passengers prefer to transit in Munich or Frankfurt - much better airports. And the design of the lounges also show that the architect may never have used an airport before. Electric outlets in the floor! Why not on the table or on the wall like in all other lounges globally.
