Flew out 25 Feb 2013 at 19.35. Waited for Air Berlin check in counter to open about 45 minutes. Two staff worked hard to process all but it was a lengthy process. Hand luggage must be weighed and tagged too. Moderate line at security. As others have stated the Pre-security side of facility is seriously lacking in services and most staff were rude. Once inside security it is a beautiful airport with lots of shopping and reasonable food choice. Hard to hear announcements even though sitting at Gate. Did not allow check in until 2 hours prior to take off time. Day before our flight a family member missed flight out of Marco Polo when security seemingly shut down. It cost them over 900 € to book alternative to make Dublin connection for flit home to US. So a different tale of one city. We count ourselves lucky.

23 Feb 2013. Venice to Dublin with Aer Lingus. Firstly when leaving the bus the signs for check in are contradictory. Secondly there was only one person to check in the entire flight. The airport is a nightmare with a shocking lack of personnel and some of the rudest people I have ever met. The security queue was very long indeed and actually went out of the building. It took me almost 3 hours in lines to get to the gate only to be rudely treated. A few people were denied boarding and I was bussed to the flight alone in a coach. The flight was delayed by a good 45 mins and the cabin crew told me they hated the airport! It is clear that the situation at Venice airport is a cause for concern.

Venice to Munich on Air Dolomiti LH1905 at 7.00 am 26 October 2012. Surprisingly busy terminal at 5.30 am with line-up for four of five functioning check-in machines. Two young staff members did an excellent job of assisting passengers to input flight information and line diminished quickly. Long slow line to security check which we by-passed as our flight was brought forward to an earlier flight which was already boarding. Staff were pleasant efficient. Our slightly overweight cases were processed without comment. Because of the flight change we did not see any of the terminal facilities but everything seemed to be clean and well signed. Repairs were being done quickly on mal-functioning check-in machine. Our experience was brief early in the morning but positive.

Dropped our rental car at the airport to get a water taxi into Venice. Long walk from the terminal buildings; thank goodness it wasn't raining. Also noticed overgrown sidewalk "gardens". It seems we were lucky to have booked a 10pm flight out of Venice this meant no congestion at check-in or security. Most of the shops seemed to be closing by about 9pm. Didn't seem to be many seats for waiting passengers at gates. Business class Marco Polo lounge was quite crowded no self-service and just one person serving. Some things were very strange: large communal bottles of mineral water and stacked plastic glasses a big open bowl of crisps dried out slices of pizza - one's plate was a small flat lid (yes a lid!) of a take-out dish. Were happy to leave on time.

This airport does have some good facilities and some horrible ones. Check-in procedure is straightforward: counters are easy to find there are also clear directions in case you have booked flights that require you to go to reserved check-in counters which are located on the ground floor while all the others are on first floor. Security check is carried out very fast and smoothly (it is also more comfortable for people that have problems with full body scanners since at this airport they've been dismantled and they only use traditional metal detectors). The duty-free area is very big and well organized. It is also quite simple to get directions to reach the gates when it's boarding time. However the worst area of the airport is surely the "Arrivals" area; it's just horrible: there is an insufficient number of belts so they will throw luggage from 3 to 5 flights on the same belt one after the other with like 5 minutes pause between the flights. While it is always easy to get your luggage sometimes people from all the flights will stay along the belt even if it's not their time so if you're not lucky you might want to fight your way through the belt to get your things back. Another problem is actually the very poor amount of restrooms: there are actually 2 restrooms for the whole check-in area; it's easy to imagine that they're full all the time and they get dirty instantly.

This airport is a joke. Long and open walkway between terminal and water taxis. Gardens all unkempt. Worst of all is the marco polo lounge. First they have the most bureaucratic procedure to get in the shower is terrible they give you paper towels to wipe yourself after shower all given at the front counter! Then there no self service on drinks. You have to wait for someone to serve you and that can take an eternity. Absolutely terrible way to finish a visit to Venice.

Very difficult to understand where airlines check-in counters are located. Long lines for security checks. Poor indications to gates and security checks. Strange to say but very easy to get lost in this airport despite the dimensions.

Really dreadful airport. The queues for Jet2 were horrendous check in didn't open until 2 hours before flight due to leave but even though we had been in the airport queuing for 1 hour before check in opened it still took us till 15 minutes before the plane was due to leave to get our boarding passes etc (not able to check in on line as it was a charter flight). Next the queue for security was the entire length of the airport! Last call for our plane was made and we were still only half way down this queue. Many signs around the airport blaming the Italian government for the hold-ups but the problem was the queues which could have been sorted if there was enough staff on duty! Fortunately the plane was delayed and we managed to get on but never again from Venice for me!

We had the misfortune to encounter this airport yesterday 11th August 2012 travelling with an 87 year old man. We can definitely agree with a lot of the views here about the inability of the management and staff of Marco Polo to plan anything well. Arrived at this airport in plenty of time for our flight home to the UK to find a very long queue waiting to check in at the Easyjet desk. Unfortunately two EZY flights were leaving within 5 minutes of each other and check-in was ill-prepared to say the least. Made our way to baggage security where a single line of 200-300 passengers was snaking its way to the scanners. Then made our way to passport control at gates 21-28. Faced with what can only be described as a rugby scrum with upwards of 500 passengers and just 2 (later 3) desks open checking passports. We queued over 45 minutes and know that at least 25 passengers missed our flight. We can only describe this as a plate of spaghetti because it's a complete mess and I hope someone from the airport reads this very accurate review.

Left from Venice on June 30th. Cheapest parking is nr. 3 which is still very close to the terminal no need to go for more expensive lots. The problem with this airport is always the same: it is under dimensioned for peak periods traffic. As some check-ins have already been moved downstairs the whole departures up-arrivals down scheme should be rethought. Downstairs space look under-utilised while upper floor busts with passengers. Security is always quick and efficient no matter the flow of passengers. They are using new trays that are much better than the old baskets. My flight was delayed 4 hours and there are no lounges for paying travellers. The two lounges on the second floor look very exclusive. There is a business centre with basic facilities. There are four Internet kiosks before security but only one after and none in the no-schengen area. Facilities after securities are very good though shops and cafes are expensive. You may face long queues at passport control accessing no schengen area as there are direct flights to USA and the Middle East. In the schengen area there are only a small cafe and a small duty free upstairs and only a couple of vending machines downstairs but they seem to cope with the flow of passengers. Downstairs you may have some chances of charging your cell phone for free. Toilets are crystal clean everywhere in this airport it is my best experience ever under this aspect.
